Skin cancer investigation is a visual exam of the skin that you can do yourself or visit a professional. The screening involves checking for moles, birthmarks or other marks that are unusual in colour, size, shape, or texture, which may be critical signs of skin cancer.

Many people feel discomfort or worried about the cancer screening cost, forcing them to go for self-checkup. In some instances, a novice would not understand the symptoms, and most of them ignore these signs. Such actions would aggravate the condition, which needs complicated and expensive treatments. Hence, a regular investigation by professional would save lives.

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers around the world. Melanoma, basal cell and squamous cell are the most common types. The second and third versions rarely spread to other parts of the body and less harmful. But the first type is dangerous and applied to other factors. Studies also indicate that the maximum skin cancer deaths are due to melanoma. Skin screening helps in detection of cancer in the early stages.

It would help if you understood that screening helps in detection, but does not provide any treatment of cancer protection. A few people call it skin examination or skin investigation, which means the same and used for the purpose mentioned above.

A few people are more prone to skin cancer than others. Some of the risk factors are:

• Light skin tone
• Blond or red hair
• Light-coloured eyes
• Skin that burns or freckles easily
• History of sunburns
• History of skin cancer
• Frequent exposure to the sun
• A large number of moles

Experts suggest such screening once or twice a year. Understandably, many people cannot make it to professional investigation due to their professional commitment or financial constraint. In such cases, they suggest self-examination. People can look for

• Change in existing mole or spot
• A mole that oozes blood or crusty
• Painful mole
• Sore that does not heal within two weeks
• Shiny pink, red or translucent bump
• Mole or sore with irregular borders

If one finds significant changes in a short interval, they can visit the skin expert, who would be able to conduct accurate screening tests and confirm if they have skin cancer. The professionals' experience would mean getting the best treatment, which will boost the chances of the best treatment that will allow people to fight cancer away.
