emeka_gh:

Ok. I am an enlightened Igbo man, nay Nigerian; I abhor corruption; nepotism and and tribalism.
However, when it comes to fighting corruption I prefer institutional changes rather than personalities cults.
(Two examples if you care, Ribadu and Dora Akunyili. Ribadu fought corruption all by himself, when he left things fell apart. Dora established NAFDAC as strong fake drug fighting institution. Today long after Dora's exit, NAFDAC is still waxing strong without name dropping. Be fair which approach is better?

Buhari claims he has the personality and that he is stole no money, good for him. But he conveniently left out the fact that 'stealing' power by the gun is serious form of corruption in itself. One that has set many African countries, Nigeria inclusive, many year backward (Lagos metro-line readily comes to mind) .

Personal I believe GEJ is better at enrolling institutional changes, which will outlive him. That is what Nigeria needs, not quick fix.

'Nigeria, nay, Africa need strong institutions not strongmen' - GEJ is the man to do this job.

He has given us two - three road maps in less then 10 months (Power, Gas, Water),  how many has Buhari initiated in his entire political career spanning 3 decades.

So actually, enlightened people have weighed all the candidates, and realised that GEJ is the best among the contenders. So get it out of your system, not every Igboman,  Ijaw man,  Yoruba or Hausa man (all Nigerians) are voting along ethnic lines, whether they vote for GEJ or not. Let us quit insulting the choice of the voters.

My two kobo.

Policy making and impeccable planning wise, Nigeria is a country to doff the cap for as we have human resources that could do the job, but in the area of who could keep the machine running nonstop Nigeria is found wanting.

Institutionalisation, yes. That is the word. My brother, don't be deceived, there is no a single government agency in this country that has not been institutionalised. If I am correct, by institutionalised means making a social order to continuing running even when those who set it off are gone?

I am now picking on your words. You mentioned NAFDAC and DORA. OBJ/PDP appointed DORA. She left to join the PDP government of Yar'dua/GEJ. Do you think he didn't have hand in appointment of her successor? Compare this to your second example. OBJ/PDP appointed RIBADU. He was sacked and witch-hunted by PDP gov of Yar'dua/GEJ. Do you think Ribadu had hand in appointment of his successor? Was his advice sought?

To make all this clearer. OBJ with a political will to fight fake drugs, appointed DORA who spent 8 years and who should have acquired wealth  of experience. On leaving, she recommended her successor who she knew would do a great job and the organisation (NAFDAC) carries on what she started.

In the case of Ribadu. OBJ with political 'will' to fight the corruption appointed Ribadu who spent 8 years and must have acquired a great deal of experience. He was pushed to retirement by another PDP government who don't have political will to fight corruption and a stooge of this government is installed. So, what institutionalisation are we now talking about.

Everybody has the free will to vote for his candidate of choice but this should not be premised on falsehood to deceive the people. Search deep your mind and you will definitely find out why you support your candidate. Weather for selfish or general interest.

I rest my case.

Tomorrow is going to be a great day when reporters will have more stories than they can tell, analysts will have more data than they can process, riggers will try to manipulate and sabotage the process. The dumb will vote based on sentiments and the smart will vote based on conviction. It is a battle for our collective future, whatever you do, know that you will reap the reward quickly this time around. The world has little patience for long drawn disputes these days. There is already too much drama for it to handle. It will not bear our burden for us, it is we that will have to sort ourselves and the issues out in one form or the other.

londoner:

@emeka_gh, it seems the Igbo's are the only set of people who have to prove their lack of tribalism by voting massively for party that is from different region.

SW can vote overwhelmingly for ACN, and the North can vote overwhelmingly for CPC, but Igbo's have to vote a party which is not synomous with the East,  even when those parties may not even have bothered to aggressively campaign in the Eastern states.

Igbo's are expected to "prove" that they are for Nigeria, because there may be a suspicion where Igbos are concerned IMO.

Nigerians need to vote based on issues and with a realistic expectation of the administration they may be voting for, that goes for all Nigerians not just igbos.

emeka_gh:

Igbos have nothing to prove to anyone. And I don't agree they vote for party. The Igboman vote for policy and issues not for parties. Besides, I didn't know that the PDP is from South Eastern region. That is new to me. If the Igbo refused to vote for CPC, it means that either they dont agree with the issues presented by them. How about the Yoruba's what stopped then from voting for CPC? I never heard you say anything about suspicion.

The igboman is the least tribal (apolitical), otherwise they would have only voted for APGA (you conveniently ignored that fact.)

Again, Igbos have nothing to prove to no-one, and the Igbos believe in ONE NIGERIA in unmatched, that is why you find them everywhere!

History and culture make invaluable impact on our embodiments as human being. Historically, Yoruba has a history that connect everybody together as one big family. Political wise, we all knew the political roles of Ooni of Ife and Alaafin of oyo in the Yoruba empire.

In the recent time, what Awo has effected in the SW politically has not been met, not to mention being surpassed, by anybody so far. SW allows the incursion of any political party that carry the legacy of Awo which are simply accountability and good governance. PDP is far from being a party with accountability and good governance. It has being tested and found wanting.

So, this issue is not about nationalisation it is about seriousness of our leaders to the led.

One day, a corrupt Senator was tragically hit by a car and died. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance. "Welcome” says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, you have to spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you choose wher, e to spend eternity.” St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course, a clubhouse in front of it are all his friends, politicians who had worked with him. Everyone is very happy. They run to greet him, shake hands, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They played a friendly game of golf and then dined on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises, the elevator goes up, up, and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him. "Now it's time to visit heaven.” So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They had a good time. St. Peter returns. "Well, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.” The Senator reflects for a minute, and then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down to hell. Now the doors of the elevator opens and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage, all his friends dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders. "I don't understand,“ stammers the Senator."Yesterday I was here, what happened?" The devil winks at him, smiles and says, “YESTERDAY WE WERE CAMPAIGNING.TODAY, YOU VOTED, ” Hey everyone, I hope you found this as amusing as I did. But don't miss the point, LOOK BEYOND THE SWEET TALK AND VOTE RIGHT.

Eleven Reasons Why You Should Waste Your Vote On Jonathan
April 15, 2011 - 14:36 — siteadmin
By Safiya Musa

One, he’s the kind of president that will vote N10bn for 6 federal universities but will give N30bn for the entertainment industry. They say it is a loan but is the the entertainment industry the most endangered? What about the health and education sectors?

Two, he’s the type of president that will vote N1.3bn for furniture in less than a year after his house was renovated for him and a similar amount spent by the deceased president on the same house? Insensitive? Selfish?

Three, he’s the kind of president that will provide intervention fund for the textile industry and less than one week later lift the ban on the importation of textile!

Four, he’s the kind of president that will increase the age of cars allowed into the country from 10 to 15 years when governments all over the world are spending billions to eliminate high carbon based carbon from the society because of
negative impact on the environment.

Five, he’s the kind of president that will set up six universities premised on a silly reason that every state should have one, created additional three when all the existing ones are in a state of uselessness due to huge under-funding?

Six, he’s the kind of president that will waive and allow duty free importation of rice into the country, denying our local farmers the revenue, the support and the patronage needed for growth; all in the name of politics. Even Baba Iyabo was unhappy and could not believe that we import rice with so much local production going on.

Seven, he’s the kind of president that will consider creating an airport in each state of the federation when the existing international and local ones are in ruins and taken over by goats and cows. Please visit Kano International Airport at night and see whether you won't have to read psalm 23 for safe landing.

Eight, he’s the kind of president that will spend an entire $4.5bn in excess crude oil account in less than eight months; arguing that the account is illegal but the people have not seen anything he did with the money. Na wa oh!

Nine, he’s the kind of president that will spend N10bn or N17bn on an anniversary with nothing to write home about. Ghana spent less than N200m and the impact is still on 2 years later – I still dey vex for this one!

Ten, he’s the kind of president who under the guise of raising money for election keeps the price of kerosene and AGO at over N130. Well, it’s good for the masses. Na only no queues at the filling station una dey see?

Eleven, he’s the kind of president who will spend so much money on a carnival like campaign around the country without spending time to reflect on the number of children without shoes, without books and without food. Or are poverty stricken people no more in Nigeria?
In sum, the guy does not have the capacity to lead us. Many say he’s nice. That’s true but so are children; but if we allow them to lead even our houses, we can only harvest destruction.
Besides, who wants a nice president? Nice neighbour, yes; nice wife, yes; nice friend, yes. But a nice president?

Hmm! BB is a very wise idea, but it is now obvious that Buhari only brought in Bakari to further his own ambitions. Can you all try to imagine Buhari without Bakari, i for one would never have thought of voting Buhari. Bakari gave him some measure of credibility, but that credibility is now suspect since he could not make a simple alliance that would have boosted his chances. To all cpc enthusiasts BB Has already failed u. Be realistic, without that alliance GEJ HAS ALREADY BEEN GIFTED THE PRESIDENCY. Cpc try again 4yrs from now and correct ur mistakes.

hahahahahaha, there are two topics here about GEJ and Buhari, the first about GEJ highlighted how GEJ will win and NL people added more states to the one he listed. The second dreamer who is routing for Buhari, did not even mention any state where he thinks the decree 2 man will win, he thinks he will apply decree 2 tomorrow. hahahahahaha. The man after seeing how woeful he will perform tomorrow started crying. The EFCC man who from every indication has revealed that he is suffering from juvenile delinquency just realised very late that he has been used and dumped. Almost everyone has been wishing each and every other fellow countryman goodluck and like an elder statesman said today at the end of one of the leading bank in Nigeria's AGM held today at civic centre, I WISH ALL NIGERIANS GOODLUCK TOMORROW

Vote for GEJ and OBJ, Annenih, OLEbode, Iyabo and PDP 40 thieves will reap the fruit of your vote, laugh at you that you are "mumu", will be richer and you Will be poorer, then in 2015, they Will come up with another person to deceive you again, the 2019 deceive you again.
Nigerians please vote Goodluck so that those who have invested in his campaign Will not go bankrupt. PLEASE VOTE PDP again so PDP members that lost in the NASS election or other elections can become ministers, ambassadors, directors of federal parastatals and Nigerians can queue in their houses and they count few Naira for you to pay your children school fee or pay your hospital.
It reminds me of a song that we were told that flies sings in those day, I am coming from the latrine, I have not washed my hands and legs, just give me a little space on your food and then I Will infect you with cholera.
As for me and my house BB2011.

I rest my case.

Good you agree that there is noting wrong with building lasting institutions. In your attempt to jump into Ribadu's defence, your rather worsen his case. Ribadu and Dora were both offered a thankless task - rid the nation of bad elements. What's more, you said they had same number of years to do the job. However in the case of Ribadu, he was simply overzealous, reckless, and selective in his approach. He went further by turning himself into attack dog for Obj. EFCC was not only synonymous with Ribadu, Ribadu was indeed EFCC. He used EFCC to project himself and his paymaster Obj and his cronies; and he broke the laws of the land with reckless  abandon, with arbitrary arrests and so on. He thought Obj will get a third term and never bothered to plan for succession. That he failed to plan for succession because the Yar Adua  government sacked him after 8 years is, mildly put, lame. He lacked foresight then, and even now.

The same cannot be said in the case of Dora. Dora set up building structures and mechanism that will allow NAFDAC to function even in her absence. Though she also sold her image as that of woman of integrity and and all that. She at least did not fail in planning for her exit.

I don't even know who is in charge of NAFDAC now, but everyone know they are still doing a good job. That is not the case with EFCC even though Ribadu had enough time make a functional institution of EFCC with the political capital he was given.

Back to the thread.

In term of institution building, foresight and planning, I really believe Jonathan will perform like Dora. Meticulous planning and automated long term execution. Dividend will flow long after he is gone.

Buhari will simply be like Ribadu; he will make so much noise about issues; administer his knee jerk solutions and inflame the system. When he leaves with no structure in place for continuity, the void he creates will be filled by the same system he tried to confront.

Nigeria needs planners and administrators, not a fire brigader and career presidential aspirant!

I will not because of the calculation/assumption of a few/majority elite based on facts, deny my conscience of voting for the right candidate.

I refuse to let the perception of the electorate (majority) based on past elections & parties style (rigging) derail me of my choice of credible candidate.

I turn my back on that feeling of "hopelessness" experienced by majority; that no matter what they do, their vote can never amount to bringing about change.

I refuse to change my mind based on political analysis and their structures towards winning the Presidential election. Still will i vote wisely even if the most competent candidate has no political structure.

No amount of preaching/brain-washing can make me accept a party that has taken us back for 12yrs even if my father were to be the candidate of such party. Knowing fully well that a Destructive means can never bring about a Constructive end.

Yes, all might not be well but a well conscience has the might to reject the status quo & embrace change.

Believing otherwise when something is right means you are part of the problem, no matter how you try to justify it.

The fact that we cannot all agree on a common goal either as youths or as a nation does not give the room for us to deny the truth.

I make bold to say i shall be voting Buhari/Bakare, keep your thoughts, advice or history 'cos it makes no difference for me.

My conscience certifies them. I have no fear if they win or not, at least my conscience will judge me right.

Even if I have boil on my thumb, i'll use my tongue.

Nigeria lets vote without sentiments.
