Good morning nairalanders. Please i need urgent advice on this.
I am currently teaching in a private school (primary section) in Abuja. I started the job last week. The pay is "40k". I usually spend like #500 on transportation everyday. The problem is, my Aunty that is outside the country chatted me up yesterday asking me if i could work in Ota. That the company is a food company and they need an assistant manager. She said the pay is 25k with accommodation, but they will review the salary after three months IF i should perform well. In addition, it is a marketing job. I will be giving a car to distribute goods to some places. According to them, i will be there first staff. I told my aunt that the money is too small but she said that is what they can start with.

Should i continue with my teaching job or go for this new one? Please i need your advice urgently. Thanks.

You talk like one who is devoid of wisdom. Have you considered the advantages and disadvantages of him holding a teaching job for an extended period of time? What about the rent he pays in Abuja, is it not from the same 40k that he earns? Haba settle down and think things through before giving illogical answers

If I am devoid of wisdom, you are a tabula rasa and nonentity whose head is full of potash and sawdust. Go and take the Ota job you nefarious and obnoxious riff raff.

Do you know that with your qualification you can earn as much as #100k monthly by setting yourself on some nice online teaching platforms.
BTW why not create a regular income by going into Affiliate e-clinics(online education clinics).....
OP if you have 10clients that pay you as little as $10 dollar for solving questions online weekly that's $100 weekly earnings.

From experience, quit the teaching job for the management because 500 daily is #12500 in a month net earning 40k - 12.5k =27.5k. You will struggle all through without real career opportunities to grow. With the management job after 3months if you are good, trust me they won't give you anything less than 40k you can easily change industry compared to when you are in education. So bro, kiakia, go Ota, change environment, meet people and enjoy nice workplace.

Teaching job gives you time. You can be doing two homes lessons a day to meet up. Gather yourself and open your own school. You can start with extra moral classes.
Re: I Am In A State Of Confusion. Help With Your Advice. by Lescott7(m): 11:43am On Mar 23, 2021
Teaching in private school is a waste of time and energy, I don't see any future in it. I have worked in one of the top private schools in Abuja and my experience wasn't nice. The school owner see teachers as slaves and people to be taken advantage of. I wouldn't advice anyone to take a private school teaching job and if you really want to be a teacher, get a government school.

Op, drop the private school teaching job as there is no future in it. The worst is that, you can't even save from your salary to start your own school later.

My dear brother, except we want deceive ourselves, teaching in Nigeria has no future, and it will never add value to you as a person in the long run. So why not drop that lousy teaching job and start a new career in the factory your aunt recommended. Because this is an opportunity to relocate and learn practical skills that can add value to your life. And who knows, it might just be a gateway to your greatness in life.

Peace

You have said it all. For those who haven't taught before, pray your condition doesn't get so bad that you'd have to teach. Teaching is not easy.
Re: I Am In A State Of Confusion. Help With Your Advice. by Originalsly: 12:25pm On Mar 23, 2021
Hmmm.... let's chew on this job offer. You will be the first staff.... assistant manager. Title sounds good.... but the only other staff is the manager. Wouldn't you in reality be the worker?... the errand boy?... they have already told you that you have to deliver goods... driver and distributor. N25K salary with accommodation. Does electricity, internet service and other utilities included free of charge? You will be given a car to perform your duties.... who pays for gas and maintenance? Is distribution local?... or you have to be driving for hours and hours all day?... or are there set hours of work? ... like 9a.m to 5 p.m? After 2 months your pay may increase depending on performance.... what is expected for you to qualify?... is it an unrealistic target?.... or one you'll have to be slaving to reach?... and how much will be the increase?... N100 per month is also an increase and can be seen as promise kept. This business is now starting up ... in a crowded field... and here you are with no experience... want to leave what you have to get on board. If the business is a stand out... has great prospects... a product in demand but short in supply.. no doubt... jump on it... but if nothing special.... stick to your teaching job.
In teaching... through the children... you have great opportunities to make connections. If you are a good teacher... you have the opportunity to make money on the side with private lessons. After school... you have lots of time to do a side business. Don't let the title Assistant Manager confuse you.

Wake up.....put on your thinking cap and be proactive...if you don't comprehend or know something ask you'll be duly educated ! Online teaching platforms are not about countries but demands for educational solutions that are from all over the world.
There are sites that have people post what they want to learn and you get paid for doing the job.
