Good morning nairalanders. Please i need urgent advice on this.
I am currently teaching in a private school (primary section) in Abuja. I started the job last week. The pay is "40k". I usually spend like #500 on transportation everyday. The problem is, my Aunty that is outside the country chatted me up yesterday asking me if i could work in Ota. That the company is a food company and they need an assistant manager. She said the pay is 25k with accommodation, but they will review the salary after three months IF i should perform well. In addition, it is a marketing job. I will be giving a car to distribute goods to some places. According to them, i will be there first staff. I told my aunt that the money is too small but she said that is what they can start with.

Should I continue with my teaching job or go for this new one? Please I need your advice urgently. Thanks.

My brother, come to Ota. From Ota, you'll move to Lagos, the land of opportunities

The teaching job is insular in the sense that it will not help you grow your network. Go for the marketing job that will help you meet people and expand your contacts.

There are schools paying hundreds of thousands. There are certifications you can do in education to upgrade. The teaching job is not insular.

Look at the job security and your long term objective.
Is the accommodation is the company premises and are you gonna be given a target as a marketer? What is your specialisation? You should consider many factors.

My dear brother, except we want deceive ourselves, teaching in Nigeria has no future, and it will never add value to you as a person in the long run. So why not drop that lousy teaching job and start a new career in the factory your aunt recommended. Because this is an opportunity to relocate and learn a practical skill that can add value your whole life. And who knows, it might just be a gateway to your greatness in life.

Peace

Who told you teaching has no future?

It only has no future for people that are stagnant educationally

There are lot of professors in the University who started out as teachers in primary schools

5 times a week that's 2500naira a week and 10000naira a month. So you're indirectly collecting 30k per month. i would advice you go for the factory job because you'll learn a new skill and meet new people. There's even an option to increase your pay after 3months

Continue with the teaching for now. The alternative is not your redeeming opportunity. Continue with the teaching job and be patient

Be patient for what exactly?? For one of his former students to blow and help him or for the school to sack him??

3 reasons you have to be an affiliate marketer

1) Affiliate programs are cheap to set up - you don't need thousands or millions of naira to start, you can start with relatively with no money as long has you have internet connection and you are on social media

2) It's not risky to do - The reason being that you are not creating any product yourself, all you do is find an evergreen product that sells like crazy, and you help them promote the product..

3) It's a nice side hustle that will literally put millions in your account, and it can be done anywhere you are, you don't need a physical office

Why the wait...if you will want to know how you can earn 6 figures as an Affiliate Marketer, contact me on whatsapp on 09038004141. You will be added to the free class group and have access to materials for free

Don't quit your current job! Your current job will serve you the same networking opportunities like the marketing job. Places like Lagos and Abuja offer better networking opportunities. You can network with parents of the kids that you teach. Abuja has more connected people than OTA, even if you get to mix with them in places like church. What is your academic background and what do you teach? Abuja has same networking benefits without the pressure of meeting targets. Remember that this is a new company in Ota. What products do they sell? Have you considered business and political risks that are inherent in new businesses? Do you know the current failure rate of start ups ? ? ?

When I went for TRCN exam in 2019, I observed the whole compound and noticed that out of over 2000 people that came to write the exams that day, the cars parked in the compound isn't up to 10. I did my first math.

From the way over 60% or us appeared with okrika low grade suits, shoes that have suffered, torn collar, and over size pant trousers,. I concluded that day that teaching is not my calling. Till today, I didn't go back to take the certificate / license.

Bro, take to management job. You will grow with it.

Teaching job that is Mon- Fri, 20 days (500*20=10,000) you still have 30k left. New company 25k with accomodation. I still preferred the teaching job. The cost of living in Ota is expensive , but there are more opportunity there too. Just follow your mind.

Depending on your subject, can you do lesson?

Reaching usually has a start and end time. The management job is likely to be 24/7. Especially since you'll be living at the store in 'free accomodation' and with 'marketing car'.

If they pay all car maintenance fees and you have 1 day off, the management might be the better option.

@skillsmaster please, pray like a mad man for direction about this one because I have been there and
got badly burnt after choosing to resign & relocate.

there is dignity in teaching and you can make extra money from private coaching. 25k plus accommodation and hogwash promises from a relative no be am (even if the contract letter terms are reasonable)

do you know what an unconditional indemnification is? Google that before you inherit another man's baggage for nothing after relocating from Abuja to Ota.

do not fall for any sweet mouth of your relatives because when the cookie crumbles, you will be thoroughly denied.

you will need time to settle into the so called Manager role. you may not acquire the skills.

you need to choose wisely here. relatives / family could be some of the the most wicked set of folks to listen to.

Don't relocate to Ota. Leaving a 40k job for a 25k job is unacceptable. How can a management job be 25k? You guys should put some respect to the word "Manager"
Do you know Ota and environs well, Can you drive, do you have a flair for marketing? these are salient questions you must answer.
That your aunty is a bad person, how does she want you to cope with 25k monthly, that company belongs to your aunt and she wants to use you as her first slave.

Avoid her avoid her job.
You talk like one who is devoid of wisdom. Have you considered the advantages and disadvantages of him holding a teaching job for an extended period of time? What about the rent he pays in Abuja, is it not from the same 40k that he earns? Haba settle down and think things through before giving illogical answers

Remain in Abuja and continue the teaching but keep your eyes open. I have been there and I'm advising you based on experience. Once you relocate to Ota, you will be in a comfort zone and may give up on hustle.

A bird at hand.

Moving from N40k to N25k, are you moving up or down ? Wise people work in well established corporations.

That marketing job will frustrate you. You want to be a first staff in a startup. Story will enter..

As a teacher, you will work 22 days in a month, 500x22 =11,000. N40k-11k =29k and you want to leave the job for a 25k job?

If you know the kind of stress you will face, and the kind of deadlines you have to meet, and the kind of target you will be given, you will think twice. I repeat, if that job will be helpful to you, you won't have heard about it.

I see this people saying they will provide accommodation for you to owe you salary for a long time, man when the earn 10 Naira and at the end of the month will see it is better than a man that earns 1million and don't see it at the end of the month.

you are a teacher, you can be organizing extra lesson class for students and make extra cash, you resume work 7am and close by 2pm, that factory work won't be like that, if care is not taken, you won't be able to cope with the stress.

moreover, they are many opportunities in Abuja than Otta, stay put, manage your job and continue to apply, but if you no hear, follow your mind.

I come in peace.

These are the things you should consider
1.The teaching job provides you guaranteed income of 40k that leaves you with net income of about 30k.Though I don't know how you sort your accomodation, but since you didn't mention it I want to believe accomodation is not a serious concern for you in Abuja .

2.The marketing job in Ota, is it for a new company ? Think about business continuity , how long can this business continue operating, no good company will pay 25k per month . They are offering you 25k with accomodation with a possible review of salary which will be based on your performance . What are the chances that you will get a pay rise even if you exceeded their targets ? What are the guarantees that they will allow you to stay in the accomodation provided over a longer period of time ? Do you have passion for marketing ?

3.I think for now the teaching job is still meeting your present needs and its full of potentials , your salary is not tied to any parameters , the chances that the school will keep operating is higher .
What the marketing job is offering you is not enough for you to trade-off the guarantees you have at the moment . Just be patient better jobs will come , "keep that which thou has lest any man taketh it away from thee "

I suggest u should go for management jobs.
Since they provide accommodation and as a marketer there will be loophole where you may still generate income as time goes on.

But there's accommodation attached to it

With that accommodation, he will be tied to the company and with pittance offered as salary, he cannot rent another place if he gets a better job.

He can move from teaching to other forms of employment. If an assistant manager is paid 25k which is less than the national minimum wage, the company will definitely be a slave-camp.
