IBILEmayweather: Last time I checked parents shelled out on average of $30k annually to send their children to study in the prestigious universities of this world a course you questionably deemed irrelevant. I quiet believe this may be applicable to Nigeria as its economy is on its knees thereby limiting opportunities. In the US and other developed countries , sociology, though not as in-demand as IT and engineering courses , is actually a very good field of study. |

I think we need to educate this young undergraduates, what Life after school feels like. op you should be asking yourself which good skill I can learn that will fetch me good money. life after school is tough. even with agood course or not. by the way there's no good or bad course. Your connection, your skill and maybe a little bit of your grade. is the only thing that can guarantee survival after school. 2 Likes |

IamBroke:It's one of those courses that adds nothing to the economy. Except you are doing it as a hobby, there are better ways to spend 4 precious years of your life. In today's world, you need to be smart in choosing a career path. University is both expensive in terms of time and money so don't just pick a course for the sake of getting a degree. 2 Likes |

I only know of Architecture...... I don't know much of sociology.... People should try to study self employable disciplines..... There are no jobs out there.... Study courses that will solve problems.... Sustainable courses like, Medicine, Law, Engineering,Architecture, etc |

IamBroke: Quickly change to social work and thank me later! Social work is a practical discipline closely related to sociology. It is not a “work anywhere” profession like sociology would be described as. Years back, I was so close to studying sociology but had a change of programme when I researched what social work practice is and the job prospect for them here in Nigeria and in abroad. One of the easiest ways to travel abroad as a professional is to choose social work. You would be regarded as a highly skilled professional sought after around the developed world. 1 Like |

It's the kind of learning everyone in the country needs to understand the basic concept of society. It has to come first before other fields of learning will make sense |

Personally, I think Sociology is better than Political Science. I am a Science guy but I love Sociology and Psychology so much. You will be taught a lot of psychology while studying sociology. If you know sociology, psychology very well, and you have a business mindset, you are a goldmine. |

IamBroke: Very good course to study. But the Nigeria society downplays its importance. Funny enough one of the things Nigeria needs now are sociologist who will proffer solutions to the unending social problems we have. Just get a good grade like someone adviced up there and you can work anywhere.. |

No course is bad if applied correctly; Opportunities are there. The problem is or the problems are, that most Nigerian University educational quality is in the deep negative; And this type of course is a cultist magnet. Them no go take you serious. Anyway sha good luck in your endeavour. Wish you the best. |

Having studied Sociology and Anthropology, I can tell you one or two things about it. The problem most of us had with blending with the course is that we were offered after losing out on Law and International relations. This early enquiry will help you focus on your long walk to a good life. Sociology as a course is the scientific study of the society and the inter play of relationship and larger social groups. The Keyword is the word scientific. From the first year, the student has to be conscious of the problems within the society with the aim of providing solutions. This can be done through research into the real problems affecting the society. A good way to have a nice life is to think of becoming a consultant or a professional counselor. I understand Nigeria and other African countries have been giving pastors the money they are supposed to give to professional but we can't give up because the need is still there. Make plans from the scratch. It might take 10 or 15 years but it will be worth your time. People will loose fatht in you |
