I doubt it was an RPG, it's most likely an anti aircraft gun with wicked caliber. RPG rearly hit jets because they fly too fast and can dodge them with relative ease except they have infrared guiding system. RPG are more effective for war helicopters..

What baffles me is that, at this time and age, with all the resources we have, Nigeria can't even boast of one or at least two active surveillance and assault drone(s), that ought to be patrolling the region at least 10hrs daily, in a campaign like this drones are the best option, target, aim and destroy, undetected. It just goes to show that there are elements within the system, feeding fat from this mess.

We can't have drones because we dont have satellite capabilities/ imaging. However for that mission an apache would have been a better choice than the jet. Even without drones we can still spend a little on modern equipment like laser guided munitions below wch helps the aircraft locate and annihilate its target without bring so close to the ground.

US police departments currently use consumer-level drones to monitor high crime areas, and they certainly don't OWN any satellites.
