Mrs. Sri Lanka loses her beauty queen crown after it's ‘snatched’ off her head on stage by Mrs. World over divorce claims

A beauty pageant winner in Sri Lanka was embarrassed on stage as she was disqualified and had her crown snatched off her head because she was believed to be divorced.

Pushpika De Silva, the pageant queen who won the title of Mrs. Sri Lanka on Sunday, April 4, was left speechless and embarrassed after winning when her crown was pulled off her head during the televised ceremony.

Moments after being revealed as the 2021 winner of Mrs. Sri Lanka, a pageant for married women, Pushpika faced humiliation as last year's winner and current Mrs.World, Caroline Jurie, took the microphone and announced that the first runner-up should take the title instead.

"There is a rule that you all have to be married and not divorced," Jurie told the audience. "The crown goes to the first runner-up."

The crown was then forcibly removed from a tearful De Silva, who walked off stage in shame, and handed to another contestant who came second.

De Silva later broke her silence a day after the ceremony in a Facebook post where she revealed she sustained injuries during the incident, while addressing the divorce claim.

“As I write this, I responsibly say that I am not a divorced woman. If I am divorced, I challenge them to submit my divorce papers,” she wrote in a statement translated from Sinhala. “Even though the symbolic crown has been snatched from my head, I would like to inform you that I have already taken the necessary legal action for the injustice and insult that has taken place.”

She further added: “A real queen is not a woman who snatches another woman’s crown, but a woman who secretly sets the other woman’s crown!!”

The Mrs World organisation has also issued a statement, stating they were “deeply disturbed” by the behaviour.

“We are deeply disturbed and sincerely regret the behaviour of our current title holder, Mrs Caroline Jurie, Mrs World 2020, at the crowning. Her actions goes against the Mrs Sri Lanka code of conduct and the predetermined regulations she is obliged to follow during her reign,” the statement reads.

I have a neighbour. What a miserable life she lives. For the past eight years, she's suffered what many women do not suffer. She's been beaten blue black numerous times. She visits the hospital at least once a year for treatment. The husband rarely caters for her or the children and still demands from her and maltreat her. She's in great pain; great sorrow. And anytime for now, death may be her eventual situation.

According to your wisdom or the wisdom you shared in your comment, What should this woman do?

All measures to "change" the husband has been to no avail. So what should she do?

Wahala no dey Finnish....
But rules are rules now. If she is certainly a divorcee then she has no right to contest and people choose to handle situations however they like so that is why one need to be extra careful so nobody can have a right to embarrass you.

If she is truly divorce then there should be evidence of that let them provide it or she can go to court so no problem.
