Hahaha....$94m is not "just" in Ghanaian cedi. Ghana denominated by knocking off a few zeros just few years ago and the new cedi has been devalued by several times such that new cedi is an equivalent of about 60K old cedi.
That country is far behind put putting up so much PR including ad on CNN. It was not even among the top 5 foreign investment destinations in Africa despite having a nascent oil industry.
We may have our issues but Ghana with such little population is even behind Lagos in terms of investment and GDP.visit www.freestuffsng.com for latest freestuffs in Nigeria. God bless Nigeria.

There are only 30 million people in Ghana. And the population of Igbos is around 40 million. That's enough people for a functional country.

Kenya is only 52 million sef..... I don't know why Nigeria is broken yet.

Igbo's can't be 30 millions 50 years ago and multiply only 10 million since then. Igbo's population are above 60 million

there is a reason economists measure the rate of growth of a nation's economy, it is basically to measure the country's current key economic indicators as against its performance 12 months before. Based on Ghana's growth rate and stagnation of our economy, Ghana's Gdp will surpass ours sooner than later..........that is if Nigeria continues with her half baked economic policies. Aside the size of our economy and population ,Nigeria's critical mass of highly educated middle class gave her the edge over countries like Ethiopia, ghana and kenya but since Tinubu and his cohorts foisted this misfit APC govt there has been a massive brain drain of our valuable middle class to western nations and even ghana.........meanwhile Ghana is attracting African diaspora from USA and even other African nations. Truth is Ghana is fast catching up and will overtake us if we do not sit down and sort our tribal and sectional problems.

IMF Executive Board approves a US$1 billion disbursement to Ghana to address the COVID-19 Pandemic

April 13, 2020

On April 13, 2020, the IMF Executive Board approved the disbursement of US$1 billion to be drawn under the Rapid Credit Facility. The COVID-19 pandemic is already impacting Ghana severely. Growth is slowing down, financial conditions have tightened, and the exchange rate is under pressure. The authorities have timely and proactively responded to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana and support affected households and firms.

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today approved the disbursement of SDR 738 million (about US$1 billion) to be drawn under the Rapid Credit Facility (RCF). The disbursement will help address the urgent fiscal and balance of payments needs that Ghana is facing, improve confidence, and catalyze support from other development partners.

The COVID-19 pandemic is already impacting Ghana severely. Growth is slowing down, financial conditions have tightened, and the exchange rate is under pressure. This has resulted in large government and external financing needs. The authorities have timely and proactively responded to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana and support affected households and firms.

The IMF continues to monitor Ghana’s situation closely and stands ready to provide policy advice and further support as needed.

Following the Executive Board’s discussion of Ghana, Mr. Zhang, Deputy Managing Director and Chair, issued the following statement:

“The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting Ghana severely. Growth is projected to slow down, financial conditions have tightened, and the exchange rate is under pressure. The budget deficit is projected to widen this year given expected lower government revenues and higher spending needs related to the pandemic. The Fund’s emergency financial assistance under the Rapid Credit Facility will help address the country’s urgent financing needs, improve confidence, and catalyze support from other international partners.

“The authorities’ response has been timely, targeted, and proactive, focused on increasing health and social spending to support affected households and firms. The Central Bank has recently taken steps to ensure adequate liquidity, preserve financial stability, and mitigate the economic impact of the pandemic, while allowing for exchange rate flexibility to preserve external buffers.

“The uncertain dynamics of the pandemic creates significant risks to the macroeconomic outlook. Ghana continues to be classified at high risk of debt distress. The authorities remain committed to policies consistent with strong growth, rapid poverty reduction, and macroeconomic stability over the medium-term.

“Additional support from other development partners will be required and critical to close the remaining external financing gap and ease budget constraints.”

It will be disrespectful to compare Nigeria to Ghana when the top 3 richest Nigerians are worth more than the GDP of our small neighbour Ghana.

My point is that $94m is a huge drain on a small country that is currently broke like Ghana.

$94m is small change to Nigeria but profound drain on Ghana. And there's no point comparing cedi to Naira. Which small country in the world would redenominate her country currency by knocking off 4 zeros and few months down the line has the new currency lose value by almost 3 times yet decieve her citizens that the new currency was the best performing! shocked

If our government tries that nonsense by giving us a situation where almost 100K old naira is worth 1 new naira, we will resist it vehemently!
That's why we did not fall for the nonsense redenomination of naira Ghanaians fell for when our then cunny cunny CBN governor proposed it. The new cedi is almost 100K equivalent of the old cedi yet Ghana is still in debt! For God sake, who did this to Ghana!

Your ignorant ramblings still can not alter the fact that Nigeria's economy is the largest in Africa and Ghana's economy is 29 times below Nigeria's economy.

Same dumb and ignorant rubbish, I'll take you seriously when in several lifetimes from now Ghana overtakes Nigeria, until then, you are just another old man with zero capacity to formulate sensible and adult thoughts, social issues.

You are just another self-loathing, self-hating, low self-esteem and inferiority complex anti-Nigerian losers we see on NL.
