It had been how he treated everyone.

Who visited.

And violated the rule.

He had three sons.

Four daughters.

And eight grandchildren.

So the last child, a young man.

Thirtish.

Wide and tall.

Who was planning to get married in two weeks as of then, had a little disagreement with his lady.

It was around 04:13 a.m.

And it had started from a low conversation.

To a high-pitched argument.

She screamed.

"What kind of man are you? How could you do such?"

He snapped.

"How could I do what?"

"Make such a decision without letting me know. Am I not supposed to be your wife soon? I am supposed to know every step you take about our future."

"That I bought a car for our wedding, I should discuss it with you first?"

"You have spent a whole lot of money on this wedding already, honey. What's the car for? It's just a wedding. A one-day something. Not an investment. We still have responsibility ahead of us."

"Are you alright? You think I am going to marry you and let you suffer? Who told you I don't have enough? I think you are insane. Aren't you supposed to be happy that a guy like me is getting married to you. I have enough money to take care of you for the rest of your life whether you choose to work or not. Get the fuvk out of my sight."

He nudged her aside.

While she sighed and watched him changed into a pair of jeans, and a t-shirt.

Grabbed the car key and left the master bedroom.

"Honey, where are you going by this time of the night?"

He screamed, taking down the stair.

"Suit your miserable self."

She sighed again, exhausted.

Angry.

She gazed at the time.

It was 04:16 a.m.

She got out of bed.

Not changing her nightie nor doing anything.

Grabbed her car key on the nightstand.

And followed him immediately.

While she repeatedly dialed his line.

He wasn't taking her calls.

And a moment later, it was a bumper to bumper chase.

While at it she dropped him a text.

"Wherever you have decided to go this night I am right behind you."

Ten minutes later, she realized he was going to the family house in Lekki Phase 1.

He drove into the compound.

She followed suit.

He got out, entered the house.

Not saying hello to his mother who was saying her early morning prayer.

He went straight to his room.

She followed him up.

Greeting his mother on her way up.

They got into his room, which was very close to his father's bedroom.

"What's wrong with you? What's the meaning of what you just did now?"

He said, this time not yelling.

"Lower your voice. You are at my family's house. Why are you following me around? Can't you let me be? I need a peace that's why I am here."

She yelled.

"Are you saying I don't give you peace? I am only looking out for both of us and you insulted me. Why do you always treat me this way?!"

As he made to warn her to lower her voice again.

The door opened violently.

It was his father.

He was wide as he was tall.

And he was angry really so.

Because it was written all over his face.

He had his whip with him while he approached her with a mean demeanor.

"Get on your knees!"

She stood there confused.

While her boyfriend tried to plead with his father.

"Daddy, please. She is part of our family now. We are trying to settle a dispute."

His next statement was absolute.

"I said on your knees now, young lady!"

Stunned.

"What's going on here? Why is your father asking me to kneel?"

He maliciously said to her.

"He doesn't entertain visitors shouting in our house. You just violated the rule. He will whip your ass till you bleed or pass out. Unless you are our family member he will not touch you."

At first, she thought he was kidding.

But when the man said for the last time.

"Young lady, on your knees!"

Total panic seized every bit of her when she saw the meanness in his face.

His eyes were red and bulgy.

She tried to say...

"Daddy, please. It's me..."

She turned to her boyfriend and whispered.

"It's your father a psycho?"

"My father is never a psycho! How dare you insult my family?"

By the time she was able to respond to him.

His father whipped her repeatedly, condemning her back, laps for all eternity.

Especially her face.

Because the flexible lash had sharp edges.

Which swooped deep in her body and tore her skin apart.

Blood.

She passed out by the sting of the whip and yet because most of her blood was on the floor.

His father said to him, who was just staring at his girlfriend lying askew on the floor.

"Stop bringing people that will disturb my spirit. You will not get married to this one. Her spirit is stubborn. Clean up this mess and cancel the wedding. If she is dead bury her, if she is alive bury her alive I don't care."

He bowed.

Kissed his father's feet.

And said.

"Yes, sir. That will be the sacrifice, sir."
