After apprenticeship, the struggle continues.

That's as long as you are in Nigeria

If you doubt, ask the freshly graduated medical doctors. The FG just announced that it will no longer pay them during their internship and youth service year. So that implies that they graduate medical school at 600 level, internship is 700 level, youth service is 800 level. After then, they can think of earning money.

In short, it means the struggle continues.

That is not the end of the world though. In saner climes and countries with sense, there is golden opportunity for you as a handy man post apprenticeship and also for the freshly graduated doctor.

You have greater prospects to practice your trade in countries such as Canada more than the Nigerian doctor has prospect to practice there.

In the UK, you have less chances than the Nigerian doctor, but a chance in the UK, no matter how little, is still golden compared to wasting away in your home country Nigeria.

These countries are poaching our brains here, constantly grabbing experts that Nigeria rejects. You just might be among the lucky ones to meeeeuve.

Dude, go to Canada. Preferably thr Atlantic province.
Get a trades degree in welding. Get a second job while studying in addition to your trade apprenticeship to boost your industry knowledge. In a fewer years after, you will be making money like every other science specialist.

I wish I could weld.

Na to hustle tight open shop continue from where your master stop.

NO DULLING

Let me give you a brotherly advice, and I hope you work on it...
First of all I counsel people and I have done that on nairaland for a while... I have met great and good guys...
I dropped a story about my experience teaching in two schools as a corper and would not mind partnering with schools in abuja, but some accused me of looking for teaching job... Never ever mind what people say...
Back to the matter...
As a graduate, teaching and earning 15k, e no bad... But once you have a good (android) phone, go to any car stand of your choice around your area... Listen well, any good car stand and ask to see the manager... Tell him you want to help him market his cars and get good buyers... 90% of car stand managers will sign u on... Tel him you will be paid a small commission after sales...
Pick up your phone, snap as many cars as your phone memory can take, open a dedicated twitter ac, IG ac, Facebook ac, WhatsApp ac, ac etc... Take out time to post this cars, make sure you have the actual prices of this cars... You can add as much as #250k on it... Bring down the negotiations to as low as making #50k if need be just so I can sell. Set your monthly target... I assure you, if you get I client in a month, u make around #100,000k once you start growing, you can get as much as 5-10 client from all over the country and that hits you over #1m for just helping others sell their cars, Note all you invested was your time, energy, phone and data... No big financial capital...
Do not restrict yourself to cars, go for industrial machines as well, caterpillars, mikano gens, any thing, then you look for those big companies that need them and try to call their attention to it or market it to them... You may not sell in 3 months but when you manage to get a client to buy just 1 caterpillars, my brother you will instantly forget that u suffered before...
A friend of mine was marketing a silo for a local wielder, he received a call all the way from kebbi state, the purchase was made in Ilorin, he made #1.8 mil from buyers and #400k from seller... He still got a referral from that deal. Wake up bro...
Within a month or two, come and pay (tite).
I drive uber/bolt in abuja, market cars, sell commodities such as beans, maize, wheat, ginger, onions, name it... In bags and tonnes
And I make nothing less than half a mil monthly...

Bless up >

What you need my brother is a TRADE TEST CERTIFICATE. If you have that you can apply to any Federal Government job opportunity even you can apply to Nigerian Army, NAVY, MARINE etc even to any oversea opportunities under TRADESMEN.

Just go and get TRADE TEST CERTIFICATE at Ministry Ministry of Labour & Productivity. That one will get you access to any job you are applying for including the Certificate you obtain at your place of apprenticeship.

Weldering no be small job oo my brother. You have acquired a good knowledge in your life.

I wish you best of luck my brother.

Well. If you need white-collar jobs, then you have to get a white-collar certificate.

This wouldn't be necessary if you are an indigene of an oil-producing community. They would have quotas for welding jobs and getting from the community is the priority. You are qualified as long as you know how to weld. Look for your community leaders and state your intentions.

If you are not an indigene, then you would need specialized training with certificates acceptable by these oil firms.

There are technical schools around that give recognized certificates...
You'll just have to spend small time with them again.

After your apprenticeship, join another workshop and work as a skilled worker for some time so that you can master the skill after that you can now go and look for work or start your own workshop but in all you do make sure you forward your education. Good luck

I'm a welding apprentice and I think it's time to prepare for the future.

I have some questions bothering me, I would like to get answers.

1.)After my apprenticeship program is over, how do I get a contract job in companies especially foreign companies.

2.)Do I need any certificate to further my career? If yes, what are they?
