Please help a friend. Recently he has been going on total fruit diet. Makes smoothies with different kinds of fruits: watermelon, avacado, pineapple, bananna, orange, carrot etc and stocks them in the fridge for consumption thrice daily or when needed. He has no history of hypertension or diabetes. Recently he noticed excessive palpitation of the heart and body weakness and upon check it was diagnosed that his blood sugar was high. Could fruit sugar be the cause?

What else does he eat, and what else does he put in the smoothies.

He shouldnt stop eating green vegetables or exercising.

When and why did he go on a diet?

@tpia, the essence of the diet was to cleanse his system and also a belief that fruits are healthy. As per what else he added to the smoothies, there was nothing as fruits are naturally sweet. He occassional ate little carbohydrate and proteinous foods to balance the diet. I am still confused about the cause of the sugar rise.

Not sure if the fructose can spike his blood sugar but some fruits are actually very high in calories.

He should eat a lot of greens as well and look up the nutritional information of the fruits he's eating.

The more likely explaination is that he has been an undiagnosed diabetic. Either way, it's best to consume fats, protiens, and complex carbohydrates since these help stabalize the blood sugar. Too much of anything can be problematic.
