Daboh says:

When I told people in November last year that Yar’Adua is the president that this country deserves and is going to get, people thought it was a joke. Look at how the man has declared his assets openly. Everybody knows what Yar’Adua is. You can see a man who had been a governor for eight years worth less than one billion, himself and his wife. I know of some governors whose wives are worth more than N5 billion. For the first time in my life, I am proud to be a Nigerian.

This singular act of the president deserves commendation and emulation. And by this, all the governors, the vice president and every public officer must declare his assets and it must be done this month. When I knew the night before that the president was going to declare his assets, I sat down that day and took a full bottle of red wine even though I have not been drinking for a long time. I knew that something great was about to happen. Since our independence in 1960 this is the first time that we got a president, a realistic leader.

For example, my own intelligence sources have told me that Obasanjo is worth over N180 billion assets, in shares and other things. How much did he have when he was going to stand election? When Babangida went to meet him then, he said he had N20,000 in his account in 1998. Today Obasanjo is worth more than N180 billion in terms of assets, fixed and immovable assets, almost N200 billion.

What is the source of this alleged story? We need a direct link to it. Cut and paste journalism is not trustworthy.

So in 1998, Obasanjo Farms was worth N19,000? And the Bells School was worth N500 and Obasanjo's house was worth N500?

Interesting.

By the way, has it now become common practice to count loans used to buy shares as assets rather than liabilities?

I say this Nigeria is impossible.

That Obasanjo didnt use his position to benefit himself financially will be a lie, but I was wondering why we would believe the news in THE SUN newspaper by a man (Dr. Godwin Daboh Adzuana) who nobody knows even in his home state (my home state too). He is just looking for cheap national popularity.
If he is sure that Obasanjo is worth that, let him publish his source(s) of information and/or what assets he assumes obasanjo has that is worth the amount he alleged, not just opening his mouth (because of hatred due to the supposed overthrow of his politcal godfather (anenih) by obasanjo) based on mere speculation.

Note: I never said Obasanjo didnt steal
Re: 1998 Obasanjo Worths N20,000, Today He Worth N180 Billion ! by ono(m): 12:50pm On Jul 12, 2007
Let us not deceive ourselves. We are adults. I agree totally with the last contributor to this thread.

And if OBJ wants to prove critics like me wrong, he should declare at the roof top of Otta Farm House - or elsewhere, where his assets might be located, how much he's worth in today's money - in the presence of our ever listening press. Nobody will (or can, anyway) arrest or attack him. He should come out and prove us wrong.

As far as I'm concerned, at the moment, he's the Baba of all thugs and his involvement in party talks/schemes and his other selfish moves makes me see him as someone who's doing all he can, while he's alive, to cover his evil tracks of thievery and corruption. He's a thief. Full stop.

Don't you get tired of these block heads that can't seem think for themselves a bit. Somebody said that somebody
said that another person said that another person said that in 1999 when IBB went to see Obasanjo, he was only
worth N20,000! I wonder did Obasanjo even have a wooden chair in the hut in which IBB sat when he visited him
in 1999? Lest I forget, was the worth of that wooden chair included in the N20,000 figure? Block heads!!!

I'm very afraid of the way Nigerians use (abuse) information. I'm scared. In fact am terrified.

Very soon, Sun will report that when Obasanjo was a baby, he had no children, but today, he has even GrandChildren! Let's investigate him.
Re: 1998 Obasanjo Worths N20,000, Today He Worth N180 Billion ! by debosky(m): 5:19pm On Jul 12, 2007
capital appreciation alone of the houses, land and so on will have increased his worth from 99 till today, but people of course love the sensational big headlines. where is the evidence that Obj had only 20k in his account in '99? I'm sure even 1 student's school fees at Bells wd've been much more than that.

Obj is not obliged under the law to declare his assets, if y'all want to know, lobby your legislators to write laws demanding that all presidents must declare assets publicly after leaving office.

I'm really tired of hearing about Obj, all these distractions are not helpful, we need to focus on taking the country forward, not talking about the rotund farmer from Ota.

I say with the rate at which OBJ stories are being milled out, I'm sure one of these SaharaReporters, Sun Newspaper or PM NEWS will soon reveal that OBJ was the one who invited the British to Colonise Nigeria.

@OP ( original poster)

any source , prove or weblink?

I know for the fact that the mans was the the 5th of all food basket before he was elected in 1998. Call me dumb but supply food to 20 millions + home is worth far more than your N20,000 accusations.

The OBJ was indeed on of the richest man in West Africa before 1998. (I did not say he didn't help himself with is position as a president. I can name over 200politician that didn't help the country with their stolen money.)

Some people hear will want us to believe that OBJ is an honest man and somebody is telling me Nigeria will progress. How is that going to happen when we have dishonest individuals like Iyke-D and denex?
Re: 1998 Obasanjo Worths N20,000, Today He Worth N180 Billion ! by IykeD1(m): 6:17am On Jul 13, 2007
@Donzman

Thanks for calling me dishonest - I know you believe everything you hear about Obasanjo, I don't. Only
an idiot citing his "intelligence sources" will make the statement or allegation contained in the article and
of course, you will need fellow idiots to believe wholeheartedly likewise. How someone who owned one
of the biggest farms in Africa got so broke that all he was worth was a mere N20,000 in 1999 even with
the farm in his possession beats me. Its a pity people like you can not even reconcile that statement.

It is a complete waste of time to be arguing about how much someone else is worth - only that individual
and his bankers have the faintest idea as to what his true monetary worth is. There are assets and there
are liabilities. Unless one is privy to every financial transaction that Obasanjo has engaged in since 1999,
there is no way an outsider can have any idea of his net worth. Is that too hard to comprehend?
Re: 1998 Obasanjo Worths N20,000, Today He Worth N180 Billion ! by ono(m): 8:37am On Jul 13, 2007
Iyke-D,
You don't have to insult people in here simply because they do not share your views. If you don't like what you read as posts from other people, go fry yourself somewhere and stop dissing people!

I just hope the long arm of the law on this forum grabs you soon.

debosky,
True, OBJ's not obliged to declare his assets publicly. But, someone who preaches transparency, accountability and strict adherence to the rule of law must himself lead by example, the way his successor - Umoru Musa, has done recently.

I don't think there was anything like the Bells University of Technology, pre-1999 at Otta. I will check the records and feedback, asap.

Still laughing o but let me just say, for those arguing in defense of OBJ are u saying that his financial standing now is in line with what it was in '99? Also i do not believe for one second that Ota farm was one of the biggest in West Africa in '99 as someone on this thread has alleged. Evidence please

In my own opinion, OBJ is a BIG thief!

you must have heard the saying that a dishonest man can always be trusted to be dishonest.

Where did I say Obasanjo was an honest man? Where? I say where?

There is something wrong with you and I really am not sure what it is. Why are you trying to mirror yourself on other people?
You are the dishonest one. Anybody that can try to con Nigerians into thinking that Obasanjo was worth N20,000 in 1999 is dishonest. And anybody who tries to source manipulated information to back that fallacy is just one predictable LIAR!

I said Obasanjo's misappropriations are being massively exergerrated.

If you have difficulties reading what people posted, you will have difficulties understanding them, therefore you will have difficulties replying appropriately. Generally, you will just have difficulties in life.

@ono

Obasanjo farm was about the biggest in West Africa before Zartech came. At least in the area of poultry.

The Bells School was in existence since about 1993. I don't know about the University of Technology, but the Bells School was in Existence 6 years before OBJ became president. And go check. The Bells was not one of those moi-moi schools. FULL STOP.

it is obvious denex is always looking for attention, i have ready several of your posts in Nairaland and they are always meaningless and baseless, you are always trying to argue against common sense.

Moreover, the poster did not say Obj was worth 20,000, he simply said he had 20,000 in his bank account. Those are two different things!

I am so sick of your goodytwo shoes attitude around Nairaland
