The truth is some of us jus want to react. There aren't different whatsapp for different regions it is the same one and only app with the same terms and conditions and the same privacy settings. Sometimes we jus want to react in dis part jus for reacting sake. Majority of us have all our private information displayed of Facebook and still worry about information sharing with Facebook. We are reacting over the wrong privacy concerns
each country have their store and privacy policy can slightly differ

Something they couldn't try in the EU they brought it here and all our government is saying is we should look for alternatives

EU and co are all scam..

Facebook, twitter are both being controlled by white Demons. Slavery is sweet, these people are still wanting one way or there other to make sure Africa is under their watch.

Its a political situation.

Ya'll should listen to government cuz ain't nothing that they can do. They can't sanction facebook. They can't stop Nigerians from using facebook right?

So it's best they throw the caution.

What stop Nigerians from Developing there own whatsapp that can go globally.

Common sense. Not only would a locally developed version almost certainly fail to have traction globally, you’d also have a service that would be subject to snooping by the Government.

The whatsapp is the same but the way data are being used and shared in EU and elsewhere depends on the law.

Zuckerberg and co. Just dey intrude into people's privacy
It's a pity.
He started Facebook at his university by hacking into the school admin PC database and getting girls registration pictures and showing it to boys. Boys will now be "Liking" girls' pictures up and down on his website. Later, girls saw the website and were yabbing each other, as per the ugliest.
When the school challenged him in a panel, he was proving smart, that the school IT security is very weak, that's why he could easily get all the private details of students in just a few hours.

Na the privacy na im, we still dey struggle with since that 2004. His business is based upon "Amebo" foundation.
Everything about Zuckerberg is privacy compromised. He has already faced US senate panel over privacy of facebook and other phone apps.

Telegram would have been a better option to switch over to had it not been for a very SERIOUS FLAW.

Why will l download an app and suddenly all my phone contacts( enemies, debtors, family, friends, etc) will be immediately alerted that l am now on Telegram.

Who does that. What happened to keeping a low profile or being below the radar.

You sure say, killer herdsmen & yahoo gang are not hacking the data to see whom to kill next?
Physical security is not in the country. How can we know if data security even exists in Nigeria's cyberspace?
The NIN registration we did has not produced any result yet O!

Facebook is looking for what to generate revenue from whatsapp. Since the bought WhatsApp they have been looking possible ways to make money from it's. But I think the step they are taking is the wrong time.

Instead of free whatsapp they should collect money from subscription. Sharing data with facebook is a no go area as it doesn't make any sense. I have read the policy several times and it doesn't make any sense.

Whatsapp is going to lose many subscribers for this move.

We have develop it as Gist4campus.com the android app is on google playstore. Download and install. Check image below

Just buy iPhone that’s all. Facebook and iPhone don’t agree on this same privacy issues, they’ve been at it for years now. I’m sure very soon WhatsApp won’t be available for iPhone users .

All these things are quite straight forward and logical to develop.
Probably, it works fine in your school. A name like "Gist4campus" definitely will not be used by anybody who is not a student, as the name is rather childish.
Business executives cannot be using that kind of thing. People who never went to university, will feel always psychologically oppressed and left out as the word, "campus" only reminds them of their failure to pass jamb.

They will rather go back to BlackBerryMessenger or any other "messenger" sounding app.
As for the security of the app, well, we cannot know until yahoo boys try their best and fail at spoiling it.

If they couldnt implement the policy in the EU why bring it to Africa. The time has come for Africans to start looking at ways of using alternative platforms and possibly encourage our tech guys to come up with unique models that can compete globally.
We should create our version just like China and South Korea they don't give a Bleep about Facebook, WhatsApp Google and many other apps

Seriously the level of ignorance in dis country is baffling
Oga adding a few lines of code to the algorithm that collects and share your WhatsApp data with Facebook an co, will stop it from collecting data from users in EU countries.
Less than 10 lines of code will do this and there is no need to create a different version of WhatsApp for these countries. The code will look like this:

If(user country na EU country){
Nor collect and share he WhatsApp data oh
}
Re: FG Warns Nigerians On Whatsapp New Rule by BinamRex: 10:46am On May 19, 2021
All of a sudden, a government that appointed a known terrorist sympathizer to collect our data is warning us that WhatsApp might share our data with Facebook.

Wonders!

There is no reason for people to keep using Whatsapp.
