The gift of Eternal life(grace) is not unique to only those who believe in Jesus Christ. God, through His Old Covenant Law which He delivered to His people, Israel, as Law in the Kingdom of Canaan, promised, Eternal Life(grace) to all those who would diligently obey His commandments, the righteous in the Land, and this is documented in the books of the Law.

Deuteronomy 30 vs 11 -20 (ERV)

Where LIFE refers to Eternal life and DEATH, the condemnation of sin, refers to a returning of mind, body and soul to the dust from which it was made, the sentence brought down from Adam on those who refuse God.

For this reason, when queried in Matthew 22, Jesus Christ corrected their error saying, "God is God of the Living" meaning those who have eternal life(the righteous) - He is not God to those who are dead(perished in their graves).
