These elections were widely rigged
they were not free and fair.

what is the evidence that u have that GEJ won? How can you trust the results of rigged elections

Iam basing my belief on the fact that every online opinon poll on NL had Buhari ahead by along way. Of course online poll are reliable as computers cannot be bribed.

I did (and still) support Buhari because i strongly believe that his presidency will be far better in all ramifications than that of GEJ. I have no regrets about that. However, we now have a president whom i also strongly believe will fail (even though i honestly dont want him to). 4yrs from now is by the corner, i wish him the best.
Re: Where Are The Supporters Of Buhari? by Lagosboy: 9:37am On May 04, 2011
I supported the peoples General because of the conviction I have in him, I still believe he would have being the best president for Nigeria. However, elections have come and gone , one person has to win and GEJ has won this time around by whatever means we can call it.

We have to move foward as a nation, we in the opposition have to go back to the drawing board, startegise for the next elections and make effective constructive criticism to bring the best out of the current govt. The opposition should work hand in hand at the NASS to pass bills that will advance the progress of our dear nation.

PDP´s 2/3 majority in the senate is lost and that is a good step. However if GEJ appoints career politicians as his ministers then whatever ministry they handle might be business as usual.

@Lagosboy,
But why are you so willing to accept the results of an election that were blatently rigged  and which were clearly not free and fair. undecided
We cannot move forward by accepting corruption sad

Which is more credible?

A reliable online poll or the results of hugely rigged elections?

From Laolu Akande, New York

EXCEPT Cote d'Ivoire, other African countries defeated Nigeria in global competitiveness report recently released by the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB) and World Economic Forum.

Nigeria drops in world economic index

advertisement

The country dropped from its previous 96th position to 127 in the current global economic performance, as its economic index was put at 3.4, which was said to be below the average index of 3.5 scored in the sub-Saharan Africa.

The global competitiveness report, which reflected economic performance of countries in the world with special focus on Africa, said Nigeria, however, has the biggest frontier market in Africa, even as they ranked it 30th in global market size.

It said despite Nigeria's potential market size, many other African countries performed better in the overall index scorecard, saying the war-ravaged Libya ranked 100, after recording 3.7 in overall index score.

Besides Libya, Tunisia where there was turmoil that led to the removal of the countries President few months ago, was assigned 4.7 to rank 32 in the list, while Namibia scored 4.1 and ranked 75. Botswana also scored 4.1 and ranked 76, Morocco scored 4.1 and ranked 75, while Rwanda, which scored 4.0 was ranked 80 in the world.

Egypt was also placed ahead of Nigeria, as it scored 4.0, ranking 81, while Tanzania and Zambia scored 3.6 and 3.5 to rank 113 and 115 respectively.

In West Africa, Gambia scored 3.9 and was ranked 90, Republic of Benin scored 3.7 and was ranked 103, Senegal scored 3.7, ranked 104, and Ghana scored 3.6 and was ranked 114. In the subregion, Nigeria however did better than Cote d'Ivoire, which scored 3.3 and was ranked 129.

Also in Africa, Nigeria was rated alongside Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Kenya as the top exporters in agriculture.

Regarding technological readiness, the report described it is an "area where African countries do overall quite poorly as a group."

Sweden led in that category and the highest-ranked African countries in this area were Tunisia, which got 55th ranking and in the top half of the rankings only by Mauritius at 61st.

According to the report, "in fact, 28 of the 35 African countries are in the bottom third, and occupy eighth of the bottom ten places overall. This is a reflection of the very low penetration rates of most information communication technologies (ICT) tools on the continent, related in part to the low prioritisation given by many governments to encourage ICT and other new technology adoption, as well as to low educational attainment."

But as a continent, Africa was commended for its achievements in areas such "as the innovative applications" in banking; agriculture; and, "in general, the rapid adoption of the mobile technology."

The report added: "In fact, several African frontier markets are ahead of major emerging market economies such as India in the usage of mobile phones, demonstrating that in an enabling environment Africa can rapidly adopt modern technology."

It cited the continent as "the fastest-growing market for mobile phones in the world."

Well, now is the time to talk a bit about this, ala - post Morten.

First, a few questions need to be answered by the Buhari Supporters;
- Did Buhari commit treason by Subverting the People's will when he unilaterally took over Government through a coup?
- What is the punishment for treason, per Nigerian law?
- Convicted of treason or not, does Buhari have a moral basis for attempting to rule Nigeria when he should deservedly be in jail?

Then some more questions?
- Assuming the treason question is waived, can his previous stewardship be used for/against his ambition?
- Can Buhari's accomplishments be stated in clear terms, during his terms as Minister of petroleum, Head of state and PTF Chairman respectively?
- Matched, head to head, what qualities make a certain Buhari more qualified than Chris Okotie of Pat Utomi?
- In essence what is his past life makes him desirable as a president (or even a Local Government Chairman?

Economically;
- Is Buhari a Marxist?
- If yes, is Marxism or even socialism what is required today for Nigeria's growth?
- Is there any statement, idea (or indeed anything) traceable to Buhari that suggests that he understands the basis of building a viable economic entity?
- Does the choice of an equally, economically illiterate, deputy suggest anything about Buhari?

Politically;
- Is there a cogent explanation for the seeming alliance between Abacha's family and Buhari?
- Does this man's political affiliation with the Sharia trumpeting bunch (over the last 11 years) tell anything about him?
- Can trust be bestowed on political direction and vision of a man who chooses Bakare as his running mate?

I'm baffled that anyone, I mean ANYONE, dared to support Buhari.

For the records, I do not sit on the fence. I have been completely opposed to this man, his idealogy, world vision, focus and friends as long as I can imagine.
Re: Where Are The Supporters Of Buhari? by Nobody: 1:55pm On May 15, 2011
Yes, I consider NL polls to be more reliable than Thisday/IPSOS polls

I believe that Thisday like most Nigerian newspapers are corruptible and could easily publish poll results to favour the highest bidder or the candidate of their choice.

In addition to hercules07 response, abegii where were u when all these issues were thrashed right here on nairaland. Go through Nairaland archives and check for any buhari's thread. You will see our responses. None of what you wrote above moved me a bit honestly. I strongly believe that Buhari would have been a better leader than GEJ.

@DrummaBoy
i disagree in as much as I do not think Nigerians rejected Buhari. (elections were rigged)
Problem with Nigerians is that they seem incapable or unwilling to stand up and hold our leaders to account, and by inaction, condoning all the things that we complain about

I remember reading a thread about the efforts of some nairalanders toward the presidential aspiration of Buhari. We told them that it's an illusion ,a wishful thinking and a dream which can never comes through. Respected nairalanders like Jarus,Aisha mobilized ,even contributed towards the project and we can help but pity them then, grin grin grin

Well,that one don pass sha but the issue now is that where are all these guys ? Their radar seems to have disappeared especially during this critical times when corpers whose represent the glorious future of this nation were killed ,massacred and maimed by Buhari's almajiris in the north. I think it's unfair that some of them are even putting the blame on GEJ , sad sad sad >

Whether it is the supposed rigging of PDP which caused the massacre or the actions and inaction of Buhari,I'll leave that to God to judge but what is glaring to all is that Buhari will never rule us again,NEVER ,NEVER and NEVER ! angry angry angry angry
NEVER
