The nation has 4 Military Service Chiefs. 2 are from the South and 2 are from the North.

The CDS is the overall Military boss, with the 3 other Service Chiefs, including the COAS, reporting to him.

1) Chief of Defence Staff: General Lucky Irabor. Delta State, (Igbo heritage).

2) Chief of Army Staff: Major General Farouk Yahaya. Sokoto State.

3) Chief of Naval Staff: Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo. Kano State.

4) Chief of Air Staff:
[Air-Vice Marshal Ishiaka Oladayo Amao. Osun State.

Contrary to the misinformation being peddled, the COAS is not higher in position than the CDS. The CDS is the top Military Man in Nigeria, answering only to the President who is C-In-C.

The nation has probably become aware of the work of COAS, because of the war against terrorism, and the role of the Army in that battle.

That however does not make COAS the Military head of the Armed Forces.

It is also important to note that the Military is not just the Army. The Military comprises the Army, Airforce and Navy.

The 4 men pictured are the top Military officers we have, and are in charge of fighting the war against terrorism.

Whether we support or detest the Government, our Military deserves our support.

God bless you for this comment.

Did GEJ and OBJ appointed the most senior military officers? Obj retired 60 Generals in a single day, out of them, 48 are core northerners, gej retired 34 Generals that are Ihejirika's seniors for him to make Ihejirika chief of Army staff, again, for him to appoint Mimina as chief of Army staff, he retired 38 Generals that are his seniors for him to appoint his favourite. Thsese one are ok, but this one is not right? Useless set of people, go and check, history dont lie.

If not for self enrichment,i dont know why a sane person or a group of people would want to be party or be appointed into an obvious failed and terribly bad government whom the head is completely rotten with no hope for already impoverished and endangerd Nigerians..Why would any reasonable Nigeria bother about an appointment made by a known clanish and nepotistic leader who is allaged to have perfected planes to fulanize the country as evidence by proliferation of all kinds of criminality mostly perpetrated by his fulani ethnic stock apparently with FG suport,.In a sane and civilize socaity those already appointed in such a compromised government should have resignd by now.

The bolded is not correct. The chain of command is C-in-C, Minister of Defense and Service Chiefs including CDS.

There is no federal character in the appointment of any COAS. Presidents appoint whom they are comfortable with.

The only exception in recent history is Baba Iyabo. He was in total control of his administration so no fear of military take over.

Let it be..
Ndigbo are not complaining of this appointment, we never expected Buhari to appoint our Brother as the COAS for many reasons.
First, we never voted for him and we will never support his ideologies.
Second, Buhari is a known anti-Christian, anti-Igbo, anti-Merit and anti-everything good.
Be what we won't take is the militarisation of our Lands, killing of unarmed Biafrans agitators, using herdsmen as a cover to destroy our farm lands and make us starve..

Wailing and crying from the usual suspects.
The Army should continue to hunt down the IPIG terrorists and put them down like sick wild animals that they are.

I didn't support the new COAS's appointment earlier. However, looking at antecedents from 1999,i think PMB might not be wrong. Jonathan never appointed a northern muslim as COAS neither did OBJ. Yaradua never appointed a southern christian too. That's to tell you that natural kinship matters in such critical roles, especially in a divisive country like ours. I learnt that Ahanotu is a competent hand, but that doesn't mean he's the only competent in the league of generals. His being 2ic to Attahiru is not a yardstick too. GEJ skipped more than 30 generals to appoint Minimah, and they had to go.
Before some bigots come for my head, I believe in fair representation of all regions in government, and it's my firm submission that PMB's skew is towards the north not because of tribalism but elitism. As it stands, the northerners don't give a damn too about those appointees. What people want is peace and prosperity
I have to agree with you, but the criticism is not as a result of the appointment of COAS but because of his previous appointment in other sensitive positions with blatant disregard to federal character.

You think you can fool everyone with the nonsense you spilled here? Why didn't you tell us the number of service chiefs in the police, custom, finance, aviation and the rest of federal agencies to ensure that you are not a hypocrite of the highest magnitude?

Ah Op, na wa for you o! So you want the CICOT to appoint Major General Ben Ahanotu so that he can start finishing his terrorists boys with bullets like General Ihejirika did during Jonathan's reign abi? grin

An aboki is needed there so that his boys (Boko haram, iswap and what ever they go by their satanic religion) will be free to carry out their jihad!

No Yoruba man has ever been the inspector general of police.
