Pricing methods

The most common methods for price calculation are the ‘cost plus’- and ‘top down’-method. In order to achieve best results in setting your export price, we recommend the use of both methods. This means that you calculate:

Outwards your ex-factory price to the end consumer (cost plus)
from the ideal end consumer price backwards (top down)

Both methods have their strengths and weaknesses hence, you should calculate both for optimum export pricing balance. Please note that this could be different based on export destination!

Agricultural Export business is a lucrative venture to start in 2022. Here are ten agricultural products that are highly profitable and lucrative that you can start exporting, and depending on where you ship to, earn between 20% and over 100% in profit margins.

They include the following:

Cashews with their shells:

Cashew nut is a profitable agro commodity to Export. The profit margins are extremely sensitive to the origin of the buyer, the state of the cashew nuts (whether they are raw or processed), and the price that is negotiated.
As of January 2022, the price range for shipping raw cashew nuts is between $1,450 and $1,750 per metric ton, and the profit margins range between 30% and 40% depending on the price at which you purchase the raw cashew nuts from the locals for export.
If, on the other hand, you are shipping processed cashew nuts at this same time, the price is between $9,000 and $15,000 per metric tonne depending on where it is going to, and the profit margins are between 65% and 150% because it takes four metric tonnes of raw cashew nuts to produce one metric tonne of processed cashew nuts, and because you are buying from the local community, your price is at its absolute lowest point.

Cocoa Beans of an Exceptional Quality

According to the report published by the NBS, the value of cocoa beans of superior quality in the first quarter of 2022 stood at N72.59 billion, which accounted for 1.02 percent of the country's total exports.
During that period of time, this agricultural product was responsible for 36 percent of all agricultural exports and contributed 11.26 percent to the total value of agricultural products that were traded.

Ginger
As of the beginning of the year 2022, the price of fresh ginger on the international market in Asia ranges from approximately $1,000 to $1,300 per metric tonne, while the price of dry ginger on the international market ranges from approximately $2,500 to $2,800 per metric tonne.
Due to the price of both fresh and dry ginger, their profit margins fall somewhere between 25 and 35 percent.

Hibiscus (Zobo Leaves) that has been dried out:
If it is shipped to South America and a lot of other places around the world in January 2022, the price per metric ton is approximately $2,350, and the profit margin is over 20%. However, if it is exported to the United States, the price can range anywhere from $2,300 per metric tonne to sometimes more than $4,000 per metric tonne, with a high profit margin that can range anywhere from 60% to sometimes more than 150%.
The pricing model is ultimately determined by the location of the end buyer, as well as the end buyer's identity and the precise purpose for which they intend to use the product.

Sesame Seeds:
In addition to their use in confectionary industry, sesame seeds are also a key component in the manufacturing of sesame oil. These two applications are just two of the many ways that sesame seeds can be put to good use.
The profit margins are approximately 14% when raw sesame seeds that have not been hulled are shipped. If you process the sesame seeds until they are hulled and color separated, your profit margin will increase to 18%; however, if you process the sesame oil instead, your profit margin will increase to more than 50%.
However, the profit margins could increase or slightly decrease depending on the location of the buyer as well as the price at which the commodity is purchased from the farmers.

Flower of the Black Stone:
Most people who trade it are the only ones who are aware of it, but the profit margins on the trade can range anywhere from 20% to 30% if it is procured directly from the source and then shipped to a country like India.
When exported to a country such as Saudi Arabia, profits can increase by as much as one hundred percent.
The profit margins could be extremely high depending on how you make your purchases and where you ship your products, or they could be extremely low.

Sheabutter:

Sheabutter is one of the most exciting products to trade internationally because, depending on where it is going to, who the buyer is, and what they are using it for, the profit margins could be anywhere from 30% to over 300%! This makes sheabutter one of the most exciting products to trade internationally.

To summarize it all

Despite the fact that there are hundreds of other agricultural products that can be exported profitably from Nigeria and other parts of Africa to international buyers located all over the world, it is important to note that these agricultural products that were mentioned above are more commonly exported profitably as long as you are dealing with the appropriate type of buyers.

You should also make an effort to target the markets in Europe and the United States because consumers in those regions are willing to pay up to two times or even more what consumers in Asia are willing to pay for the goods or services you have to offer.
You will always be in a great position to grow a successful export business if you locate and concentrate your marketing efforts on the appropriate locations in the world.
