Scientist said some creatures roam the earth and showed us bones even try creating the flesh to make it real. They said there are some human which are giant and once roamed the earth, they showed us, they said showed how DNA works, they show how mutation works, they transplant organs and so many things by prove but yet people called them liars but some books without meeting any of the writers said about some history about some people with no prove to show for it or should I said some confusing little prove and we believe them 500% is this not madness? Lol hahahaha

I'm pointing out the imperfections of science. When people argue about science most atheists on nairaland are quick to assume the person a religious fanatic of some sort.

My argument is strictly that whoever dated that organism 24,000 is just up with another theory and it can't be taken for a fact.

There are so many things we don't know about our planet. Some people act like they do but then someone comes up and debunks it.

Science is a discovery of accuracy of facts, which makes it subject to change. But some people take it as law.
They confuse innovation with science meanwhile they are two different concepts.
The purpose of science is to inquire, or find out the reason why something has happened, it is still a guess work but they try to get as close to the possible reason.

In this way many scientists have exploited many people who are not ready to think or ask questions. Once they say some gibberish we are quick to accept like some people are doing with this 24,000 years animal.

People asked logical questions because they couldn't see anything and then they quickly pounced on them talking about going to read a book. For bleeps sake someone wrote that book probably while they were on their sixth glass of brandy.

Don't get it twisted...the fact that I disagree with your opinion doesn't make me a clown.

It remains my opinion and I have the freedom to express it.

I don't need to take everything you say hook line and sinker.

And yes someone discovered the internet. Its the exact same way someone moulded a brick, made a chair... it's called human intelligence and everybody has it.

What is science?

You are as free to express your opinion as I'm free to point out how ignorant your opinion is. Your freedom of expression doesn't include freedom from having your misinformed, ignorant opinions challenged. You don't get to spew nonsense about how you would ""rip carbon dating to shreds" when you clearly know absolute diddly squat about what it entails. You don't have to accept anything "hook, line and sinker" but you should at least be minimally educated on what you're rambling about before offering half-baked opinions about it.

And no, someone didn't "discover" the internet. It's a global network of computers with many underlying technologies, infrastructure and protocols that facilitate communication. The kind of scientists you're ignorantly mocking are the kind of people who have given you the platform to spew your ignorance on the internet.

Science is to know the why and how. There are scientific laws that from generation to generation can't be debunked. These laws have gone through series of proofs before it became law. A typical example is law of gravity. Science is advancing and we need to get our mindsets right to appreciate these advancements

Are you just trying to crack me up? So you think there were no innovators or inventors for the internet we use today?

Really? Anyway like you said I know nothing about carbon dating just like who ever came up with it knew nothing about it.

In a couple of years someone will tell you carbon dating is grossly inaccurate. But then just like the digesters, you will eat that one up too because he probably gave you some high handed bright ideas.

I'll tell tell you one thing...you know a lot more and you can even invent your own dating technology and call those ones dump. But you won't, you would rather prefer someone educate you and you be like...ooh AHH really? Wow? Now I know science told me so.

Duh.. anyway I'm in a good mood. I'm not anti science by the way I just don't believe I need to agree with everything someone says.

Hello, everything and anything can be debunked. There are rules and yes rules change. Man evolves, everything about our planet changes, there are no set rules.

We can only study, analyze, but someone in some generation will see something that was missed. Even if it means building on an established fact, it would still change.

Science changes it is why its referred to as many discovery. Scientific research cannot end because it leads to more and more questions. However, we need to understand where we are being manipulated and when facts are actually stated. We can only do this if we are ready to think and use our heads. I wonder when Nigeria will focus more on research. I am not a scientist, I'm a researcher.. I'm curious.

After I argue with you and probably get some insults from some about being dumb I'm going back to learn. Infact I'm looking up carbon dating now...but that doesn't mean I'll believe the earth is 4.8billion years. It could be more it could be less but I certainly have no capacity to know and I won't let someone who is also not sure tell me what to believe.

Good adaptive mechanisms. Microbiologist, please explain to us

I did my grad research on a cold adapted bacteria, which can grow and survive in warm or freezing temperature. For a cold-adapted organisms to survive under freezing condition, there are a general set of requirements that they must meet:
-special fatty acids in the cell membrane that would not "crack" due to freezing.
-cold adapted proteins and enzymes.
-cytoplasm must not freeze by maintaining proper ionic concentration....

It's adaptation that came about over millions of years.

You're all over the place, and like I said, the funniest thing about you is the complete confidence you have in your breathtaking ignorance. Which I guess shouldn't be surprising. Self-awareness afterall is a definitive trait of intelligence and people understanding the limits of what they know and being open to learning is in itself a display of their intelligence. I'm begging you to at least read a Wikipedia article on the rudiments of how radiocarbon dating works before continuing to embarrass yourself on here. And embarrassing yourself with total confidence. Also read up on how peer review works in the scientific community and how scientists just don't come out to say anything like your fevered imaginations have claimed.

And no, I didn't tell you there are no innovators of the internet. I was disputing your claim about "discovering the internet". Technologies and protocols which make up the internet have inventors, but that's not quite the same thing as making out that the "internet" was discovered as if it was excavated from the earth.

Scientific laws don't change. Innovations are only made from these laws. I'll still use the law of gravity as an example, whatever goes up within the Earth's gravitational pull comes back down. Science used this law and calculated what amount of speed is needed to break away from this pull and space shuttles were invented. The beauty of science is it uses what's available in nature and builds on it. Religion along with other factors has been a blindfold to Africa and it's high time we start learning more about the world around us and work out how to make it more conducive for us all rather than leaning on sentiments.

You only studied "Integrated Science" in school and you think that's all there is. Go and read on Uranium-thorium dating and its abilities. SCIENCE IS BROAD. THERE'S SCIENCE IN EVERYTHING WE DO.

So are you saying UAR has abilities to be a science country or what? I don't need to read about UAR to know about Twitter and thorium. We saw it live when Buhari ate the pigeon and since that time people all over the world has been visiting aso rock. Uranias are tired, dating thorium won't change anything in everything we do.

As a microbiologist and scientist, l will advice not to be overly confidence in your ignorance about something you have no clue about.

You are downplaying science. Now, is there anything in the world without the full touch of science even your beliefs?

Which people count the years

It's called carbon dating

In a new study, the Russian researchers used radiocarbon dating to determine that the critters they recovered from the permafrost -- ground that is frozen year-round, apart from a thin layer near the surface -- were about 24,000 years old.
