The Dahomey were soon met with victory when they brought down the Oyo Empire and its yoke at Paonignan in 1827. While Brazil's demand for slaves increased in 1830, the British started a campaign to abolish the slave trade in Africa.

Dem no born Dahomey well

They would have run out of Women as well

Oyo was busy fighting Jihadhists

That was when Dahomey took advantage and made a bid for Independence by refusing to pay Tribute

But to bring down Oyo ,Dem no born dem papa Well

Dahomey no fit

The most important Dahomey Princes were held as Hostage princes in the Alaafin’s palace and were being raised by Alaafin Oyo

You will notice that after a While Dahomey preferred to Attack the Egbas of Abeokuta than Oyo, they understood that the lives of their Princes would be at Stake if they tried nonsense again by trying to attack Oyo

Dahomey was a very Stubborn Customer that was why Oyo used Strong Hand to Control them

Dahomey Women dealt with Yoruba warriors

Yoruba were so much sold that they even take pride in bearing slave masters names till dates such as Savage, Wellington, Williams, Brown, Santos , Fernandes etc ...these are the evidences .. you rarely see an Igbo man that bears such ! Igbo have dignity

Same with Niger Delta.. just that the Aros did them a number especially in Rivers and Akwa Cross
This is because they came back home after getting their freedom; that is why you know them and that their names were changed.
Ibos lost their way home. They changed their names but could not find their way home. But you can see them tracing it back now. Recently some descendants of slaves in America came back to the Ibo land claiming they are from their.

The different between Ibo and Yoruba is that. Yorubas actually wanted to come home, and always wants to be free, while ibo people wanted to die as slaves, even when they got free they still didn't want to come home because they preferred their slave masters abode and protection and culture to their primitive and embarrassing culture.

Gustavus Vassa also know Equiano was an example of this. Despite being free, he didn't come back home to help his people, because like everyone of them had no dignity and preferred the white mans abode and culture over his own primitive culture unlike Ajayi Crowther.

Ask yourself, despite the fact Ibos made up a large number of the transatlantic slave trade, sold by minority tribes around them, why did non the resettled in Ibo land. The answer is up there.

He didn't come back because he had no dignity and was embarrassed of his babaric, savage and primitive culture; He preferred his former masters culture to his own. His people actually needed help, they were being sold into slaves in their thousands. His effort could have been used to prevent that just like he freed himself. Gustavus did not even come to visit. He could have introduced them to reading and writing, and helped them develop faster than any other region in Nigeria. I guess what the famous write said about Ibo people was true

Despite her loses like any other empire, the Oyo empire is the greatest empire Nigeria has ever witness.

Don't put Igbos in the same sentence with braveness.
Only not up to 200 Yoruba soldiers defeated battalions of Igbo biafran army at Ore.

Banjo,a brave Yoruba man trusted by Ojukwu, led the Biafrans to win up to the Midwest until he was killed,it was then that the Biafrans were beaten blue and black.

Wọlé Soyinka had to go to jail for Biafrans just because he showed the braveness Yorubas are known for.

Adekunle "The black Scorpion's" (The Hero Of The Civil War) footsteps sent Ojukwu scrambling to Ivory Coast dressed up like a prostitute. He fled like a chicken leaving his gullible followers behind to be roasted.

Fajuyi,a brave Yoruba man, stood with Ironsi even as he knew that he will be killed.

The list is long but the OP,who is of course Lilly livered like his kinsmen including the shivering Ojukwu,If he is a little educated, should know that no Lilly livered tribe ever had an Empire like what the British,China,Oyo,Rome etc had.
Igbos didn't even have kingdom talkless of an Empire.
Oyo Empire of the Yoruba people existed more than 500 years.
A descendant of the Yoruba,Oba Eweka, also established the Benin Empire.
Yoruba/Oyo Empire extended up to Dahomey eg Republic of Benin,Ewe in Ghana etc.
Yoruba are super brave not simply brave.

Let me indulge and share a slice of the Yorubas military activities.
Ajaland Ajaland was the last layer added to the empire. It was the most restive and distant, and kept in line with threats of expeditions against it. This territory extended from the non-Yoruba areas west of the Egbado Corridor far into Ewe controlled territory in modern Togo. This area, like all tributary states, was allowed a fair degree of autonomy as long as taxes were paid, the orders from Oyo were strictly followed, and access to local markets was provided to Oyo merchants. The Oyo often demanded tribute in slaves. The tributary chiefs of other kingdoms sometimes made war on others to capture slaves for this purpose. Oyo was known to punish disobedience by wholesale slaughter of the erring community, as it accomplished in Allada in 1698.

Later conquest With its cavalry, Oyo campaigned over great distances. The Oyo army was able to attack defensive fortifications, but it was harder to supply an army, and they withdrew when supplies ran out. The Oyo did not use guns in its major conquests. The military waited until the 19th century to adopt them. In 1764, a joint Akyem-Dahomey-Oyo force defeated an invading Ashanti army. The victory among the alliance defined the borders between the neighboring states. Oyo led a successful campaign into Mahi territory north of Dahomey in the late 18th century. The Yoruba also made use of the forces of their tributaries, for instance, they accomplished a 1784 naval blockade of Badagri with an Oyo-Dahomey-Lagos force.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyo_Empire

This is apart from the fact that Yoruba occupied dahomey for 100yrs before it gained independence during Oyos internal conflict and war with the fulani to the north.

Look Ibo boy, when we are talking about conquest and expansion Yoruba is not your mate. We have an history, a very proud one. One of conquest and defeat just like any other empire out there. Oyo empire is in the levels of the likes of the Roman empire, British Empire and Fulani empire until their fall.
Oyo empire is the only Empire that conquered territories out side the boundary of Nigeria, we didnt stop there, we went further through benin into the heart of Togo. What primitive history do you have that can compare to this?

This is What is called conquest, bravery and strength. Now, how many lands did you conqure pre colonial?

Yoruba is first on that list, no arguements, but you can keep yourself there to make yourself happy. I am out

Lol, it's really amusing to see the igbos making some very desperate efforts to rewrite their sour, tasteless history! We ask for sources to their so called "warrior tribe" claims but the mofos are giving us Wikipedia's links, lol ! One werey among them even said that Igbo would have overrun Yoruba land had we been neighbors ! We asked the chestbeater to tell us which of their neighbors - Ijaws,Bini,Itshekiri, Ibibio, etc did the Igbo overrun their land or defeat in any war ?! Empty loudmouthed descendants of Ijaw slaves too think they have any say where the free-Borns are discussing! The mumu that's waiting for the receipts or proofs of Igbo slavery and cannibalism, you must be new here !

Igbo, tell us the tribe(s) you defeated in any war to acquire your tiny landlocked enclave of cannibals ?! You guys are nothing but mere slaves of the Ijaws,Binis and Itshekiri that you're shouting here won't change that fact !

How many lands and territories did Yoruba gain from wars ? Lol ! It's either you're being mischievous deliberately or you're just poorly informed ! Omo heebo,so you did not know that Yorubaland extended far beyond the shores of Nigeria - from Nigeria to Benin Republic,Togo,Ghana and even some parts of Ivory coast. Read up,kiddo, read ! There are lots of Yoruba lands and territories in Benin Republic,in Togo,in Ghana, etc ! Ga Mantse Adangbe of Accra in Ghana is even a Yoruba king ! The Yoruba warriors of Oyo defeated the Ashante warriors to acquire that territory,go and read about it on the internet;it is there ! The Ga people of Accra have never ceased to tell whoever care to know that they are Yoruba people from Nigeria, precisely from Oyo !

Lol,see all these descendants of Ijaw slaves thinking highly of themselves ! Yoruba have never been your mates right from the time immemorial ! We don't even rate you at all. Even in contemporary Nigeria,Oyo state alone is equal in size to your entire five states of Abia + Enugu + Anambra + Ebonyi + Imo = Oyo state alone ! You need to ponder over that, kiddo ! In Nigeria,Yoruba land starts from Jebba in Niger State all through Kwara,Kogi, Oyo,Osun,Ekiti, Ondo,Lagos,Ogun,Benin Republic,Togo,Ghana and some parts of Ivory coast! When an Ivorian or a Ghanaian greets you by saying "Akwaba",he is saying "Ekuabo" in his native Yoruba language which is now corrupt as a result of time.

No other ethnic group in Nigeria conquered land and acquired new territories outside of present day Nigeria except the great Yoruba people ! Go and verify it,no be fallacy I dey yarn,na fact !

Your lack of comprehension must be acting up again as usual ! Chinedu, the question you should be asking yourself is what your own forefathers were doing inside their jungles as at the time ours (Yorubas) were waging and winning wars of conquest and acquiring new territories spanning from Benin Republic to Togo,Ghana ,etc !

I ask you again, tell me any war of conquest your forebears were involved in and which is well documented in history ?! We however know about how the Ijaws,Igalas,Binis,Itshekiris, constantly raised your tiny enclave for slaves! Chinedu, trust me, you're not who or what you think you're as an Igbo. Your real identity will set off a depression in you if you come across it. What the white men wrote about your tribe is enough to make you sad for the rest of your life ! Igbo were described as primitive hinterland dwelling cannibals with no records of prominent ancestry or civilisation!
