CPC in Rowdy Session, Members Vent Anger on Leadership By Onyebuchi Ezigbo 04 May 2011 The National Consultative Forum meeting of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Tuesday degenerated into hot exchange of words with many members in attendance expressing their disappointment over the performance of the party at the general election. THISDAY gathered that a good number of the party members fell short of asking for a pound of flesh from the leadership for failing to guide the party to a good showing at the election. At the Nugget Hotel, Abuja venue of the meeting, many of the party leaders from across the country called the national leadership of the party to question, blaming them for the party’s shoddy performance at the elections. The meeting, which was called ostensibly to receive reports of various committees involved in the prosecution of the elections, later turned into an arena for “blame-game”, with the members engaging the leadership in exchange of words on issues bordering on the polls. As part of the meeting’s agenda, the forum was to deliberate on the reports of the election monitoring committee and that of the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC). Among those who were present at the meeting were the party’s National Chairman, Prince Tony Momoh; the Deputy National Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Salihu; CPC’s governor-elect for Nasarawa State, Alhaji Alma-Kura; National Secretary, Alhaji Buba Galadima; and the DG of the Campaign Organisation, Alhaji Sule Haman. Although the national leader and the presidential candidate of the party, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari was listed to attend the meeting, he had not arrived as at 5.30pm when the meeting broke-up for an interactive session. The atmosphere at the gathering was highly charged and many of the members were heard voicing their anger and frustration at the turn of events. The situation was so tense that the campaign DG was not allowed to speak as he was literally shouted down when he stood up to present his report. An insider and a top member of the party at the meeting told THISDAY that the DG was forced to leave the venue before calm could return. However, in the midst of the growing agitations among the members, the party’s National Chairman, Momoh, while addressing the gathering, re-affirmed the decision of the party to challenge the result of the presidential election in court. Momoh, who tried to re-assure the disillusioned party members that hopes were not lost, said the party leadership was still reviewing the entire election and would at the appropriate time present its case in court. He urged supporters of the party not to give up hope, but to continue to work for progressive change in Nigeria under the CPC structure. The CPC presidential candidate, Buhari, was defeated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, who polled 22,395,187 votes as against Buhari’s 12,214,853. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/cpc-in-rowdy-session-members-vent-anger-on-leadership/90754/ |

GEj is the weakling who beat a major genaral. The dunce who out smarted a major general. The questionable phd holder who does not make careless comments and moves. Gej is the most criticized president of NIGERIA who never said a word against his empty head critics. Gej recently went on a 7 day (prayer) retreat while buhari is busy aguimg with his party members. Gej is the man. Cpc is breaking up. |

The moment that party nicknamed the CPC had their ideology centered around just one man named GMD . . .that was the day that party withered before even taking off . . .this is just the chronic effect of that inert failure manifesting |

Ever heard of a complex, seems that is what they have gotten. Now to matters more important, Why is defeat so difficult for men to accept? Of course I am thinking that's a rhetorical question. |

Thatdave:GEJ need the likes of CPC on his heels constantly in order to succeed. Democracy without opposition and opposing views is dead. I don't know what you should gain if opposition parties r paersoalities is to disappear? You won't EVEN have any election victory to salivate as you are now. If he is the most criticized president in Nigeria, it means he is doing something good because once critics stop coming in democracy, you should look over your shoulders or move to North Korea. Whenever you competitors are shouting, you are doing okay (depending) as I learned that as a businessman. But whenever your competitors starts to agree with you or even complementing you, go home and look around and check what you are doing wrong. GEJ got only 365x4 days to make his mark and I hope he is in Obudu fine tuning and assembling the best the brains and technocrats and not the usual ministers nominated ones each from each state, which normally are those that lost elections as usual. And praying not the answer, as such a prayers in the past without any good intented plans and work has always comes to nought. When a party loses an election irrespective of the way it loses it, it meant to argue and quarrel among themselves, over where it all went wrong and possibly take stock and regroup and that is what the CPC are doing now and does't warrant your myopic celebrations. My labour party did here in the U.Kingdom after the last general election, that even blood related brothers decided to run against each other for the leadership of the party. But since then, Labour party has won the last two held byelections in the United Kingdom. If CPC are where they are today having been in existence for just only 9 months, you can guess where they could be in another four or eight years, a position the AD/ACN wasn't after the 2003 demolition by OBJ. |

lari03:If you don't know why defeat is so difficult to accept, you still a boy then and will soon learn very fast. Go and search and you will find that the most successful people in business, sports, politics and even academic are those that do not take defeat very easily. If you doubt me go and ask Alex Ferguson how many days it takes him to get over a defeat, despite having won everything needed to be won in club football. |

oyb: Your bolded word analyze, I must say is overly ambigious. Every first meeting after a defeat of any sort, you should expect that tempers will flare. I will use football again as an example. If you go to the dressing room of team losing 2 nil in an important much at half time, you don't say they will be analyzing. Tempers do flare, even some managers like Ferguson are known for throwing tea cups at players and its far worse when the team eventually loses the game. Some of you are praying for the demice of CPC but my advise for you is that its not for your best interest if you still believe in democracy. Mind you, you don't celebrate every victory since more work is ahead of you. GEJ has nothing to celebrate now yet until the dawn of 2015 when he can takes stock and he should stay far away from those of you popping champagne now when there is rough roads ahead of him. Anyway this is Nigera, where success is based on how you choose to define it for yourself. |

Eziachi: Explanation from an elder !! Most of this GEJ folks act like babies sometimes, once a party dominates a country there will be no progress because there is no competition and that is part of the reason we have not progressed as a country, |

@ Post Does not diminish the fact that GEJ is still a very weak president - who would still starve to death if you lock him up in a food supermarket. A man with no known record of service delivery or implementation. Unfortunately his luck don run out since yesterday. |

Eziachi: Absolute rubbish. GEJ has every thing to celebrate. He has made history. He has led us his people to the center of the country's affairs. I find it amusing how all you haters keep saying this same thing: 1. How can he become acting president, never in a billion years - After a lot of noise he became acting president 2. He doesn't dare declare his intention to run for office - he dared. 3. Atiku will floor him, imagine the upstart, the north this, the north that - he bitch slapped Atiku 4. The CRAZY People in Crisis party and their messiah were next. They will get 1 zillion votes from the north. - They turned out to be just like the rest, impotent noise makers' 5. Now we have losers like you saying wait for 2015, Sir I tell you that you will lose again, wake up and smell the fresh air. We know the work ahead of us, we also know that their are haters like you who are relics of the past, the real job we have is to ensure that you are never again in any position to drag the nation backward. If you and your co-travelers like you can try and organize another killing spree in the north. I would though advise that you wait and see what is going to happen to those that organized the last one. |

@ Eziachi#, you know when you mentioned Alex Ferguson, I thought now here's the best thing about the whole response to my comment. For Buhari, it is the election that he truly lost that he is contesting the result. In case you never knew, Buhari was my favorite for president, but God said no not him, so what's his stress? He ought to settle down to his military pension and enjoy that. Why did he think Igbo people or the south south would vote for him? when he virtually is perceived as tribally biased. My advice don't defend him even if you are been paid to do so. In my opinion, he should work towards achieving regional takeovers from the PDP in 2015. The people have spoken though aided by money, tribal and religious sentiment. The poser to you is What is at stake for you in this business called Nigeria, because according to an ibibio proverb " if you close your eyes to people while walking in the market, it doesn't mean people will not see you. |

abibio2001: ^^Thanks jare, don't mind those Narrow-minded, Shallow-minded and Hollow-minded anti-demcracy Agents on Nairaland. They are quick to jubilate if an Opposition party argue as if a successful democracy means no opposition. Today, I heard one man saying these Hausa Oil transporters want to spoil GEJ's government and he went ahead to call down God's fire to burn them. We in the vehicle laughed and one youngman said If he like, let him be blaming opposition or Transporters instead of waking up to work. Before he realizes, next election will be knocking at his door. ALL ANTI-CPC, ANTI-ACN ANTI-APGA SHOULD CONTINUE TO GIVE THESE PARTIES FREE PORPULARITY TO THE DETRIMENT OF YOUR CRUMBLING HOUSE OF DECIET. |
