Most common phobias are often co-morbid with other diseases. Because of this, the most effective treatment of common phobias must consist of all co-existing illnesses.

Often, specific phobias are completely irrational, unfounded fears which pose absolutely no real threat. For example, the most common, and sickening, common phobia among adults is a claustrophobic phobia.

However, this specific phobia is actually a symptom of another illness. People suffering from a claustrophobic phobia will often lock themselves into a secure, dark environment, and will not be able to leave the room if the security was broken.

Panic disorder, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), generalized anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder are all very common phobias, which can become intertwined with other illnesses.

In these types of cases, sufferers may be forced to take medications in order to control symptoms such as panic attacks. It has been shown that medication, while an effective treatment for many common phobias, tends to become habit-forming when it is taken too often.

Due to this, many physicians and psychologists have come to the conclusion that in order to cure the patient completely, these patients need to be treated for the entire root cause of their phobias, not just the symptoms. This type of approach is now becoming more widely accepted by both medical professionals and psychologists.

There are other three types of common phobias, which are classified as co-morbid

These are social phobia, substance use disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Of these three, the first two are by far the most prevalent in America. Substance use disorders include but are not limited to alcoholism, nicotine, and drug abuse.

Social phobia, or the fear of being humiliated or embarrassed in front of others, is the most likely associated symptom with this anxiety disorder. Phobias that happen in particular situations, or occur repeatedly, are considering phobias.

Most sufferers become aware that they have these intense feelings or thoughts when they experience an anxiety disorder, but because they cannot get a reaction from others they become trapped within their fears.

Co-morbidity refers to a condition where symptoms of two or more of the most common phobias exist simultaneously. People who suffer from one anxiety disorder may also suffer from another, or in some cases, may suffer from a combination of two or more.

Some common phobias that coexist with social situations include blushing, claustrophobia, and agoraphobia[/b]. Blushing occurs when people become embarrassed by their own body's natural reactions. If you blush often it is time to seek help to stop this cycle. Breathing exercises can be very helpful and have been proven to reduce blushing dramatically.

. These phobias typically occur together and can be very debilitating. Some of these common phobias include: being shy, being nervous, and not feeling at ease.

These social phobias typically occur with other issues such as depression, mood swings, eating disorders, alcohol dependency, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is imperative that if you suffer from more than one specific phobia then getting a doctor involved is crucial.

Social phobias and extreme fear are some of the most debilitating conditions out there today. Millions of people suffer from these mental conditions and many do not seek help until they find themselves bedridden and unable to function in everyday situations.
