TPL Niyi Odetoye, President of the Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria ( ATOPCON) was one of the casualties of the gas tanker explosion in Lagos yesterday.

The explosion happened around 10.32pm close to Sheraton Hotel when a gas tanker exploded.

Niyi who would have clocked 47 years on Monday June 21st was a graduate of the Urban and Regional Planning of the Federal University of Technology, Akure. He was a major donor to his Aluma Mata including as Sponsor of the Best Studio Design Award (URP).

TPL Niyi Odetoye donated a plasma TV, a DSTV decoder and a satellite dish to URP Department in 2007 during my incumbency as the HOD. URP Department ineluctably became the first academic department in the School of Environmental Technology (SET), nay, FUTA to boast of the afore-enumerated facilities. His benevolent altruism shall remain inerasable in the annals of our supernal Potentate.


Beloved by many, Niyi Odetoye is survived by his wife and children.

So until u bought/donated plasma tv,dstv decoder and a satellite dish to URP department a federal higher institution could not acquire those things. So pathetic d kind of school,educational system we run in dis cow_ntri.

Truly sad. He was a great man. I hope these incidents can be prevented or greatly reduced.
