Did they ask to be brought into this world or what's this? Infact from the age 10 a kid should insist on re-negotiating his or her existence in the home and ask for a greater share of the parent's income for being brought into the world without his prior agreement cheesy

He's right. But the thing is most "Adult" living with their parent are victims of unemployment or poor pay. Any sane person would do this easily without thinking twice if they have the means.

By the time I have my children, they'll never contribute. I will make sure they have access to the basic amenities of life in excess. If they want extra, they can use their money.

Say, I buy them a Toyota and they want a Ferrari. They are free to use their money.

If one's parents are well off, I'd imagine that they would be more concerned about getting their kids to save and start off well so that they can move out.

If you live alone, and responsible for sorting out your bills, you'll come to fully realise that running a home and cost of living is not for the faint-hearted.

If you find yourself living with a family or someone, please whether or not they ask, contribute to the bills.

Buy fuel, refill the provisions, pay for utilities, assist in cleaning. Don't even ask them o. Just do it yourself.

I'm a Student and I also work. I usually pay cable TV bills, some other bills for the general running of the house, and help my siblings out too. It helps in removing some kind of "burden" from Parents cos they're really trying.
When I started working, Omo! I knew that Parents have a lot of responsibilities, I even hailed my parents too.
Sometimes when I have enough money, I usually buy them gifts, or when I'm broke, I tell them to manage recharge cards.
Lol, I remember my Mum praying for me on phone cos of ordinary recharge card.

Children shouldn't be a burden to parents. Ever! This is exactly why family planning is being advocated.

I get your point tho. A working child should be able to contribute one or two things at home. But it shouldn't be compulsory.

The fundamental duties of any parent is to take care of the children needs. The role should never be reversed.

Please NO CHIlD should not be obliged to contribute anything towards to running of the home especially if they are not working.
If they are working, they should also not be obliged. They need all the money they can save to start their future asap. They shouldn’t be obliged.

However, I’ll advice kids to use their good mind and buy stuffs around the house from time to time. But it should never be made compulsory.

I don’t live in the same city with my parents because of work but whenever I am home, I do not pay kobo for anything. If I even want to pay, my father will tell me to save my money that I will need it later. So what I just do is when I go out with my parent, I pay for what they want to buy or when they send me message, I don’t ask them for the money. Kids should never be obliged to pay for anything around the house.

Most of my colleagues who are still staying with their parents pays the bills.
I know some Nigeria parents that are collecting rents from their own children because they are working and staying with them.

You spoke my mind, the only helping hand expected from a child to Parent during her schooling day is for such lad to earn good grades, help with house chores during holiday, and be prudent with whatever she got. Those are basic things expectations that makes them proud.

For those sending money home whilst in school. No matter your alibi the source can't be legit. Expect you re in a foreign land where schooling and working are both and the same. Nigeria curriculum won't allow such. Unless you wanna carry the unexpected over to more years in school.
