On Friday, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), an Igbo socio- cultural organization, retaliated against the Northern Consensus Movement (NCM), which had declared IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu wanted and offered a reward of N100 million to anyone who could bring him to Nigeria on Thursday.



After breaking bail on treason accusations filed by the federal government in October 2015, Kanu relocated to the United Kingdom.

The NCM blamed Kanu and the Eastern Security Network, which is suspected of being IPOB' s militant arm, for the recent attacks on Northerners in the Southeast at a news conference in Abuja late Thursday.

In response to the NCM' s statement, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary- General of a faction of Ohanaeze, advised the northern groupings to focus their efforts elsewhere.


He claimed that their N100 million bounty should be set on Abubakar Shekau, the murdered Boko Haram leader.

" We want to tell the groups that are being funded by some northern presidential aspirants to place a bounty on the new leader of the Boko Haram terrorist organization that has recently emerged after the death of Shekau, " he stated.

" Nnamdi Kanu has an address in London or Germany, which is where his IPOB offices are. It' s not necessary to look for Kanu. He is not in Nigeria; as a British citizen, he has a London residence.

" They should just take the N100 million rewards offered to them by northern politicians seeking to destabilize the Southeast to have an easier root for the 2023 presidential ticket of Nigeria' s major political parties, particularly the PDP.


" They should put a bounty on Shekau' s successor, who has no address and lives in the bush, as well as the terrorist gang that has been fighting the government for the past six years.

" They shouldn' t cry any more than the bereaved; we' ll look after the Southeast and make sure things get back to normal. In our opinion, the bounty is both insignificant and political. It is not required; rather, it is a technique of maintaining polity tension. "



" For the record and since the last time, there has not been any killing, except the accidental killing of Ahmed Gulak in Owerri, " Isiguzoro said, dismissing NCM charges of killing Northerners in the Southeast.

" Except some nefarious actions of unknown gunmen and killer Fulani herdsmen who have been targeting police stations and government buildings and killing both Igbo and indigenes from other areas of the country, no killings of Northern people have been recorded anywhere in the Southeast. "


In response to IPOB, Emma Powerful, the group' s spokesman, stated the group would not respond to the northern groups because " they are insignificant groups and they don' t know what we' re doing. "

He went on to say, " claiming to represent Arewa means they represent nobody. "

" We pity them for defying Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB because they have no idea who we are; they can rant from here to Arewa; we have never encountered such groups before.

" They want people to hear their yelling so that they will be aware of their existence since they are unknown.

" The world' s important people are talking about Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB, and Biafra. We' re way ahead of everyone. "

Nnamdi Kanu wanted the criminal accusations against him to continue, according to NCM' s press conference on Thursday.


It is offering a reward of N100 million to anyone who can successfully produce him in Nigeria.

Kanu had moved to the United Kingdom after skipping bail on treason accusations brought by the Nigerian government in October 2015.

The NCM blamed the latest attacks on Northerners in the Southeast on Kanu and the Eastern Security Network, which is thought to be IPOB' s paramilitary arm.

It requested that Kanu be returned to Nigeria by the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.

Nnamdi Kanu' s spokesman, Dr. Awwal Aliyu, claimed members of the organization took it upon themselves as active citizens of Nigeria to declare him wanted for " crimes against humanity and inciting the massacre of innocent Northerners in the Southeast via his hate speech. "
