I'm disappointed, this is an example of irrational thinking. He can as well encourage FG to ban mobile phone and laptops entirely since yahoo boys use it for fraud.

Ban kitchen knives because women are now using it to kill their husbands and boyfriends.

The benefits of social media can never be overlooked, if not for YouTube I wouldn't have learnt coding, graphics design or game development.

If not for Nairaland, I wouldn't have known freelancing works and how to go about getting clients abroad who pay well.

If not for Facebook, I wouldn't know the best and trending products to dropship.

If not for Twitter, SARS will still be out there killing youths for owning an iPhone.

Whats my own, can they really sensor social media? I don't think it's ever going to happen. Nigerians are very smart people with dump leaders so they will end up playing catchup.

Thank you so much for this. I wish I can like it a million times.

I wanted to comment, but you said everything in my mind.

While some misuse social media, many use it for their businesses. Baba should calm down and let this generation use the tools at their disposal!

Bro, I beseech you to kindly read through the message again.
Don't get too emotional, read through calmly without any sentiment.

First, the headline is totally misleading, secondly, the opening of the message is totally wrong.

The question is, did Bishop in his statement say he is supporting the social media regulation by the Nigerian Government?

Did you see anywhere he mentioned the government?

Please, read through with a calm head and you will understand better.

Ok...thanks
For the first time here am seeing a better nairalander stand to be corrected.
Indeed you are learned and fear God. Do you on what the bible say about men like you?
They will sit among kings and queens to eat and drink...I will invite you for a drink soon!

He is wrong on so many levels. Government might as well regulate free speech, social gatherings and even free thought. Government should not be in the business of regulating what people do with their time. Someone that spends 70% of his time on social media should face the consequences alone.
Social media just like any other invention can be used for positive or negative. Many youths that have used social media for positives have made and continue to make millions of naira from it. Do you know how many youths make their living from social media.

What we should be talking about is to enact laws or extending existing libel and sedition laws to cover social media, so that anyone that is hurt by fake news or lies can easily seek redress in court.

Bros, you only ended up making a lot of noise with no point or answer to my question.

You said he is wrong on so many levels, point out just one.

And sorry you are only getting emotional without reading with understanding.

You got carried away by the headline aND the opening of the message in bold.

He never mentioned the government and he never said he is in support of the social regulations whatever.

And lastly, if you can write this well and still can't get his point but feel you have anything against, I wish you well......just continue.

In peace I go!

People like you who rush to comment without understanding the message are among the problem of Nigeria.
When did regulate become ban?
Besides, he did not even mention Government.
Imagine the number of people that even liked the comment

Read the comments here and you will agree that we have a serious problem with this generation.

Imagine everyone lashing out on the man of God for no reason undecided

If you have anything against what he said , I bet you need to check your head.

It's either you hate the truth or you are just too damaged beyond redemption.

What advice will you now give your younger ones or your unborn children....unfortunately, some of you already have kids and you are against such a godly advise!

Tell me the kind of children you will raise if you find this hurting.

That speech is obviously one-sided. The baba presupposes that all youths use social media to chat meaninglessly all day without knowing that, for some, the productivity he's talking about lies on those social media. For many, their business is primarily based on those social media. Examples include bloggers, vloggers, freelancers (programmers, graphic designers, etc), dropshipers, and minimportation fellows, digital marketers! These fellows staying on those social media for 16 hours or more a day is simply being hard working, just like someone who has an offline business giving it a lot of his time to grow it!

That's why you may need to read through again.

Using the word most and some youths in his statement clearly rules out one sidedness as opined by you.

Using the word "expecially those that are not adding values" in his speech shows he takes cognizance of those using the social media positively to earn a living (in godly manner).

So, it's either you didn't understand what you have read or just want to be controversial.

I was not saying they should give you free stuff but provide a conducive environment for it..in America, don't they have social nets for the poor?

Socialism is not the same as conducive environment.

Right now no one is challenging your rights to go get a job, go to a hospital of your choice, set up a business, go to school etc. The private sector offers these things already. And we've pension schemes.

Bet you don't even pay income taxes.

He is making point. When you check Instagram and tik tolks you will understand. Most nigerian Girls spend their time on tik tok, chatting and all. Not only Girls too though. Guys are inclusive. Some even spend their whole day watching movies . Their is a Guy who is over 30 years and he watches movies at least 2 movies in a day. I was so dissapointed. Wasting hours you should had used to do something positively . And if you check these Guys , they are not moving forward. Even Yahoo boys doing crimes don't chat or watch movies all day long.

But my own take is, the Government can't regulate social media because of these ills. Any one that want to go astray, it's left for him or her. Na the person go suffer am.
Re: "Youths Can't Think": Bishop David Oyedepo Begs FG To Regulate Twitter, Others by Nobody: 12:19pm On Jun 20, 2021
You post on facebook, youtube and even twitter. You want followers, you always tell people to follow your live streams ( service).

Same you, oyedepo wants social media regulated which you patronize and even engrossed with more than the youths

Nigeria is not covenant secondary school.
Practice what you preach by regulating yourself out of social media.
Deactivate your facebook, twitter, youtube presence and the youths would follow suit.
Re: "Youths Can't Think": Bishop David Oyedepo Begs FG To Regulate Twitter, Others by triplechoice(m): 12:22pm On Jun 20, 2021
It is knee jerk reaction for anyone to call for restrained access to social media or the Internet

If we have people whose lifestyle and thinking has been badly affected by it, we equally have others whose lifestyle and thinking has greatly improved through its
usage

These days, nearly every student in every single higher institution in this country depend wholly on the Internet to carry out their assignments, prepare for exams and to keep abreast with current happenings around them.

So why should any right thinking individual advocate the government ban or restrained access to the Internet or social media just because some young persons are abusing it.

The truth of the matter is that the blame should not be placed entirely on social media platforms but on users who lack the personal discipline to control their behaviour

Any form of addiction is a personal problem and should be dealt with personally by the person or persons it affects.. Parents whose children are addicted or misusing the Internet or social media platforms should be advised to take responsibility and not look for whom to blame for their inaction.

It is only when the misuse of social media platforms affects everyone else that the Government can step in. But they should at such a time only target those involved in its misuse and not make others suffer for the stupidity of a few..

If you old men dont take time, we the youths of this God forsaken country would rise one day and wipe you all out. You old men who have refused to die or make way for the youths have pushed us to the wall enough. No food, no job, poor education system, no light, no good road, poor healt system and yet the little thing that helps the depressed youths to manage their frustration you old men want to regulate.

If you are a true child of God sell all those your useless private jets and give them to poor Nigerian youths to start up business.
You thought money is the problem to start a business... okay
Re: "Youths Can't Think": Bishop David Oyedepo Begs FG To Regulate Twitter, Others by yinks77: 12:44pm On Jun 20, 2021
This information is misleading. Bishop never called on the government to regulate social media. He only advised youths to be engaged in more productive things rather than spending their time on social media.

The disadvantages outway the benefits.

Nigerian social media is littered with degenerates, gossip, clown's and aspiring clown's.

The issue is not whether Adeboye is one-sided or not but demanding the Government
regulate the Internet for everyone because some few persons are misusing it..

Why should I be made to suffer for someone else's irresponsible behaviour when I am in know way responsible for how they have chosen to behave
If the Government heed to his call, how would it possible to ensure that those who don't abuse or misuse it are not affected by its regulation.
Don't defend him because you assume he
