Vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections, Peter Obi, has decried the level of corruption in the country, saying he would continue to call on Nigerians to pray for divine intervention. Obi, who spoke at a maiden synod of the new Bishop of Mbamili Diocese, Anglican Communion, in Umuenwelum Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State, said the reason the country continued to retrogress was that the political leaders and elite had remained selfish, focusing on personal gains in office. He said insecurity, economic challenges and many other challenges facing the country are not the biggest threat to Nigeria’s progress, but the political leaders and the elite have refused to serve the interests of the people. Obi said if Nigerian leaders would be sincere in their approach to issues affecting the country and be transparent in the management of national resources, every other challenge rearing its ugly head would be greatly reduced. “The main reason I always urge Nigerians to seek divine intervention for the country is that the politicians are the major problems of the nation. If God can touch their hearts to use public funds for the public good, then the country will be better,” Obi said. He lamented that many abandoned public projects across the nation could be traced to corruption, where those involved have looted the funds mapped out for such projects. If God can touch their hearts to use public funds for the public good, then the country will be better,”We can pray from now till thy kingdom come and nothing will happen. We have been praying for decades and NOTHING happened. Prayers CANNOT move mountains; it's a figure of speech! Developed countries did not pray to get where they are. Without hard work, then prayer(s) is vanity. Politicians remind me of some friends that will eat WELL at home, then when they visit you and see you cooking your last sachet of indomie, they'll still eat with you or even make you use it to entertain them. They're NEVER satisfied, even after looting enough money to last generations. They need to start swearing with deities, they don't respect the Bible/Quran. Swearing with the Bible/Quran is not even Constitutional, so they can't give a damn. And, we also need the death penalty for looters. God should entirely TOUCH their hearts to stop looting, while we should entirely TORCH their body when they loot. Let's see the more effective method. 2 Likes |
