They are the richest country by far in terms of natural resources. You can see the gigantic landmass of the country with just about 150 mill people.
Russia is not a rich country in terms of commodity production like China or Auto manufacturing/Trade/ICT innovation like the West, however, they are extremely rich in rescources.

They have enough rescources to stand on their own, survive, thrive and progress, even if the whole world places severe sanctions on them.

US military bases don't guarantee superior covers. They had a base in Pakistan too in 1971.
