A resident of the Bungudu community in Zamfara state has shared the story of a soldier who reportedly escaped from bandits after running out of ammunition. Residents of the community had taken to the Zamfara-Sokoto highway to protest the continuous attacks on their community by gunmen.

Some residents of the Bungudu community recently blocked the Zamfara-Sokoto Highway while demanding the return of soldiers to help protect them from incessant attacks by bandits. Some of the protesters took the opportunity to share details of their ordeal with the press.

During an interview, one of the protesters revealed that he witnessed the slaughter of a soldier and the shooting of a police officer. Explaining further, the protester narrated the story of how a soldier escaped with his life during a battle against bandits

It was gathered that a soldier ran out of ammunition after the magazine of his rifle ran out of bullets. The soldier reportedly proceeded to take off his uniforms, hide his rifle and roll in the mud as camouflage. The insurgents however arrived at the scene but they did not see the soldier.

It was also learnt that the said soldier raised his hand after community residents arrived at the place where he hid. The protester claims they almost shot the soldier unknowingly until the affected soldier spoke in the English language and identified himself.

The man claims the soldier was thereafter brought out of the mud and taken back to town. The residents lamented that soldiers have been withdrawn from their community.
