Nnamdi Kanu Shouldn’t Have Jumped Bail, It’s Sacrosanct – Tanko Yakassai by nairavsdollars(f): 11:59am On Jul 01, 2021
Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Elder statesman Alhaji Tanko Yakassai on Thursday said Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) should not have jumped bail and fled Nigeria.

Kanu, who is facing trial for a treasonable felony, jumped bail in 2017 and fled the country for the United Kingdom (UK) when soldiers stormed his parents’ residence at Afaraukwu, Abia State.

On Tuesday, he was re-arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, two days after he was arrested and extradited to the country.

He is still being remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services by the Federal High Court.

Speaking in a chat with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Yakassai, a former presidential adviser to the late President Shehu Shagari said those who jumped bail can be arrested no matter how long it takes, even if it is 30 years later.

He said “We should realise that you don’t jump bail, when you jump bail, they will arrest you. Bail is sacrosanct and so, you don’t jump it. If you jump bail, they will look for you for 10, 20, 30 years until they get you.”

“They will distribute your name, pictures, blood group across other countries through their embassies and so on. It is not only Nigerian security agencies that will arrest you. The German police can arrest you if your name was sent to them that you jumped bail in your country”.

“There is what they call INTERPOL, Internal Police Organisation. They liaise with one another all over the world. If they are looking for somebody, all they need to do is to go to the headquarters of Interpol with all the person’s particulars. They will then distribute it to all the embassies”.
On Kanu’s claim that he fled the country to escape being killed after soldiers invaded his house, Yakassai said that will be for the court to decide.

Lets even assume, he jumped bail, can't he just lie low instead of gallivanting all over the world as if nothing will happen because he has British passport??

Not when Buhari is the president. He can achieve that may be after Buhari.
Jonathan handed over Nigeria to Buhari with its territorial boundary intacts and so Buhari will leave it intacts. The person who succeeds him can do as he likes, his own business.
That's the cruise of the matter here.

Maybe the raw cow milk this Tanko takes is affecting his reasoning. How can you allow yourself to be killed by military men in your house when you can actually take cover? Does a dead man go to court?

Hello, am confused here. I'm trying to understand you guys' pointless points. In 2017, few days to his court hearing, he was in his house and the FG sent their military men to kill him, I emphasis on "kill him" cos that was the mission then, and he got intelligent report of that and made away. So you guys are actually saying that he should have stayed back and be killed instead of running for his dear life. Really?
Sometimes I wonder if you guys are mentally fit to exist among humans.

The fulani government have succeeded in radicalizing every Nigeria against themselves as regards tribal sentiments to the point that we now choose to take the side of the oppressor against the oppressed , how any Nigerian in his sane and right mind would still choose to support the act of these fulani government towards Nnamdi kanu is beyond comprehension. They paraded someone(Nnamdi kanu) in court with out the presence of his defense lawyer and yet somehow the judge still deemed it worthy to give the case a hearing even when the accused counsel isn't present, how are Nigerians seeing injustice and choose not speak but rather support of it, what have happened to us as a people for Gods sake..

Nairaland is a different environment all together.. If you go on twitter you'll see a much more balanced environment.. Because it is not as anonymous as here..
Here One fulani man can have over a thousand Monika with igbo names.. When he coments with one, he logs in with another..

By law, a person who breaks the condition of their bail cannot be arrested until the court revokes the courts revoke the bail

Its unfortunate that your federal government does not follow simple law

mention the so many ways you can agitate without violence. Violence is the only language the government understands. Remember when he started it was all peaceful till the government started killing the Igbo youths who had committed no crime. When the python dance 1 was carried out with hundreds of people killed you guys hailed the government. Now they resorted to violence you're now saying they shouldn't have made that step. You don't step on someone's head for long and expect him not to raise his head up one day and revenge. Ndi Igbo right from time have been known not to be calm in the face of ill-treatment and marginalization. And the reason why Africa has been backwards is because of sectional politics of hate. Nnamdi Kanu is not the problem of Nigeria, he's just the symptom of the problem. MNK represents the grief of the average Nigerian who can't voice his opinion. The least we can do is to support him in anyway we can
