As at then, public smoking is normal and permitted. In fact, the most popular ads on Tv and Radio then were by Tobacco companies. You will hear on radio ads like "Cigar Target o!Na wa!".
But a lot has changed now so much that even cigarette packs now carry warnings that you are liable to die from smoking. Late President Shehu Shagari at that age, is not different from most of his age mates then ,he was probably in his late 20s or early 30s in the video and he's still looking charismatic. So it's not a big issue.

The late Prime Minister's clearly brilliant and knowledgeable about the subject he is talking on as this was a big issue then to discuss because of the civil rights movement in the US , so here he's throwing Nigeria's big national pride and international clout against racism considered then such sensitive international debate. Wow!! No one will believe he is the leader of a country that was barely 5 years old with such aura and authority of power & influence he was oozing ; he went as far as stating categorically what he told the US political leaders while in Washington against racism. His diction and command of English is topnotch and his trademark baritone voice is so Presidential and reminds me of the voice of late Dr. Martin Luther King.

Up till now, I still wonder why this man and others like Chief SL Akintola and Premier Sardauna Alhaji Ahmadu Bello had to be assassinated. Unlike their peers in other regions who lived long enough to reproduce more of their followers, these two Leaders of Northern extraction were killed in their prime and did not live to do that for the North and till date, sets the North back so much that they are yet to recover. May we never experience such calamitous national loss again. God bless Nigeria. Our heroes past shall not be in vain. @ OP , thank you for sharing this.
That right there is the magic voice of africa..
I love this man so much i wanted to change my name to his.
I might aswell add that s.L akintola had some backslashes you know with awolowo back then and ofcourse the sarduana was talking about northernization in the NORTH so one might say they might have dirts on them but you see this man..great tafa..nahhhh that was wrong...killing mai malari was also wrong...the coup plotter was a boy the sarduana helped..you can imagine...alot of our history is forsaken and neglected..alot of issues that should be dealt..put astraight if you will

Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, Emmanuel Ifeajuna.
Purely a coup masterminded and carried out by ibos.

This was Nzeogwu's speech/broadcast after the coup

Is Ademoyega also Igbo?

Or you didn't see his name on the Wikipedia page?

His speech clearly stated why they struck and Ademoyega also wrote a book that goes by same phrase.

You can wallow in your insincerity and hypocrisy, idgaf.

Also, lest you think your feeble attempt to revise well documented history will fly, a lot of non Igbo officers and soldiers were part of that coup.

I don't blame you, the country doesn't teach its own history in its schools so these kind of senseless vituperations are expected.

Knock yourself out.

HE ALLOWED AKINTOLA TO OVERRUN THE WEST JUST TO PUNISH AWOLOWO - MASSIVE INSECURITY IN THE COUNTRY - ARSON, LOOTING, RAPE, MURDER AND CORRPTION - OKOTIE EBOH WAS THE MASCOT FOR EMBEZZLEMENT AND HE WAS FEDERAL MINISTER OF FINANCE - he will be spraying pounds in the air and the crowd will be chanting "omi mi ejoh" - The unjust imprisonment of Opposition leader Obafemi Awolowo and his disciples like Lateef Jakande, Anthony Enahoro, Bola Ige and others on the farcical charges of treasonable felony was a move to turn Nigeria into a one-party state where there will be no opposition just like under Nkrumah in Ghana and that is dangerous for a pluralistic society like Nigeria. These were some of the reasin
That’s not enough and look at it now, is the Nigeria they wanted to save not a zillion times better than the one their actions resulted in ? Power went into the hands of uneducated sons of farmers and cattle hearders

Thanks for this.. It really hit home , such an unfortunate end for those Northern patriots who really had the North in their heart.

Ok 1985 born.

What history are you yapping about? The biased history written by the coup plotters? So you expect an account written by coup plotters to be objective?

Clap for yourself. Now name the Igbo man in the level of Ahmadu Bello that was assassinated by the Igbo coupist. Non!

Name the high ranking Igbo officer in the rank Zakaria Maimalari that was assassinated by the Igbo coupist? Non!

The coup was totally an Igbo affair. You can argue gibberish all in an attempt to whitewash history, but the truth remains that all the top political and top military men killed were non Igbos.
