MadamExcellency:Lies no corruption as such, they just wanted to grab power, they just use the corruption statement as excuse, all military juntas use corruption, lack of development etc...as excuse. Those guys were young, bigoted and overzealous. Did killing them end the so called corruption? Ahmadu Bello and Sardauna lived pious lives, simple men, they were spiritual, not the vagabonds that took over afterwards. |

Tafawa Balewa was one of the few intelligent men that have ever come out of the north and one whom I really respect even in death. He always held his audience spell bound when he spoke. I was wowed when I watched a video of his visit to the united states in the 60's when Nigeria still had respect in the comity of nations. How we went from Him to the one we have presently in Aso rock is a wonder. It simply shows that this nation is trapped in a cycle of retrogression. |

Harddiskng: You have no doubt that it won't be well you? As long you are a Nigerian you have just successfully placed a curse on yourself. When you curse Nigeria you don't know you are ultimately cursing yourself. Americans always say "God bless America" Is God not blessing them? I and the very few Nigerians who believe in prosperity will always say "God bless Nigeria" and I am glad her blessing is visible in my life. 1 Like

aycorporat:Yes. Jean Boyd must have been proficient with the Hausa language. The most notable white personality in terms of contribution to early Hausa literature was Rupert East. It was he who recruited Abubakar Imam(author of the popular Magani Jari Ce) to translate books in Hausa for school children. 1 Like |

TheRealestGuy: Only one Igbo army officer was killed and it was a mistake as he was never slated to die. No politician from the east was killed. Not one. Were they saints? Meanwhile, almost all senior army officers of northern extraction were wiped out. One was even killed with his wife. A pregnant wife, for that matter. I am not justifying any pogrom, you are the one trying to justify a needless coup. Even the coup was not a problem. The people were willing to accept the authority of Ironsi. Guess what, he totally mismanaged the situation. As for cries of Igbo Amaka being meaningless, your reason is quite silly. How did Northern leaders kill them pre-independence? They were killing them while having them work in the northern civil service and use northern slots in the military? They were killing them at a time the North and East were political allies? Or you think it's an accident that many prominent Easterners (Ojukwu, Azikiwe, Cyprian Ekwuensi) were born in the North? 3 Likes |

einsteine: You are funny and it's obvious you have something against Igbos and it's fine tbh. Just own it with your chest and stop trying to be politically correct I guess the 1953 Kano Riots was a joke to you? Btw terming an unfortunate military interference in 1966 as an Igbo coup tells me all I need to know about you. And saying I'm trying to justify the coup is baseless. Justify it how? That I insist, and rightfully, that it is not an Igbo coup is justification of the coup? There is no logic or inference from our discuss so far that points to such a far-flung conclusion. As I said earlier, the coup plotters clearly explained why they struck in their historical accounts yet you're here shilling same propaganda that culminated in the pogrom of 1967. You can repeat that it was an Igbo coup a million times but the facts and historical accounts are there to prove you wrong. It would do you well to be more objective and clearheaded when thinking cos it's thought processes like yours that brought Buhari into power. Learn to distill facts and see things for what they factually are. Learn to think for yourself young man. Bye. |

TheRealestGuy: A lot of lies and revisionism of the coup which was part of the propaganda spewed by the actors of July 66 coup that the the Jan 66 coup was an igbo coup. People failed to realise that at 66 the officer corps infantry and mechanized divisions were three quarters igbo in make up meaning that the officers corp was majority igbo so if a coup were to happen it is understandable that there would have been more igbos there If a coup were to happen now in the army, you would have more northerners in it because they are the bulk of the officers corps presently. The coup failed because of logistical blunders of Ifeajuna and Co. Again one aspect of history that has been maliciously suppressed is that Ironsi actually fixed a trial date for the coup plotters for August 66 after his nationwide tour. Again the actors of July 66 deliberately hid the fact that Ironsi delayed acting on the Jan 66 boys because he was seeking advice from the British military service since they were a formal colonial officer on how to handle coup situations since at that time Coups were alien in the country. Another lie that was used against Ironsi was they claimed the Jan 66 boys were living large in Prison and enjoying their wages, but what they and the press failed to tell people was that the army ordinance laws of 1960 stated that soldiers that are remanded in Jail for offences will continue receiving their entitlements until their fate is decided by a military courtmartial and since they had not been tried they were still entitled to their allowances. There was a lot of false propaganda in the north to provide grounds for a counter coup most of which were lies. 1 Like 1 Share |

BA (Hons) or BSc Hons degree? traihit:Awolowo, Zik, Akintola bar Ojukwu were all teachers before they travelled out.
