The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has warned Imo State governor Hope Uzodinma to desist henceforth from harassing members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) around the state; urging him to focus on fighting for the rights of the marginalized oil producing communities in the state.

This was made known in a press release by the National Cordinator of HURIWA, Comrade Emmanuel; Miss Zainab Yusuf, and Project Director Queen Onwughalu, emphasizing that the governor should concentrate on fighting the true criminals, rather than attacking the non-violent IPOB members.

The statement partly reads:
“When you have a state like Imo; an APC controlled state, I don’t see why Hope Uzodinma should not fight for his people to get what rightly belongs to them,” the group said.

“That doesn’t seem to be his problem. Maybe his problem is chasing ESN and IPOB everywhere. You know, people have different agenda. I’m from Imo State and Hope is from Imo State, but everybody has his or her own agenda.

“Let us remind Hope Uzodinma that the oil producing communities in his own state are being marginalised. We are not blaming APC for that.

“APC has just been in power for six year. Hope is also part of the problem because he has been in PDP from day one.

“So, if we have to blame anyone, Hope should take it upon himself having been a founding member of the ruling party to ensure this injustice is corrected.”
