This man should get the accolades of the best Governor in Nigeria without a shadow of doubt. On like most Governors that spend 90% of the income accrued to their state on the state capital and yet “at that” nothing to show for, Mimiko is going about it in very holistic and admiringly way taken every community,  town and villages along with him.

The 4 big towns of Akure, Ondo Town, Owo Town and Okitipupa Town are all having and experincing a face-lift and a new lease of life with huge dual-carriage roads tearing open the heart of those town’s narrow roads that has been a pivotal part of the terrain of these provincial towns from time memorial, the roads are widened the towns are all wearing a new modern look. He is also building a new modern tolled Dual Carriage road from Ondo Town to somewhere in Ogun State, this new road would shave 45 minutes from journey between Akure and Lagos.

What Mimiko is doing is commendable and inspirational, bringing and spreading development and the proceeds of democracy all around, to be sincere this kind of development is unprecedented in the annals of the state in particular and in Nigeria in general.

I love his style, surely he deserve the name he is called and known as “Iroko” which means some sort of rock  of “ Gilberter”,  he is his own man and he is developing the whole state as one unit in unison.

More Kudo’s to Mimiko I hope the new Governors coming in within the next two weeks can borrow a leaf from this strategic thinking and a true democrat.

GOVERNOR Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has flagged off the extension of Owo township road into a dual carriageway.

The flag off of the project, which will gulp N3.9 billion out of which N814 million has been paid to the contractor, CGC Construction Company Limited to facilitate the timely completion of the project, is in continuation of the activities marking the second anniversary of the Mimiko administration.

Speaking at the ceremony, the governor said his administration's commitment to the provision of infrastructure would be further demonstrated in the next two months with the rehabilitation of more township roads in Owo Local Government Area.

He said: “The asphalt overlay of surface dressed roads is ongoing on many of the Owo township streets while many had even been completed, costing N537 million. The decision to dualise this township road is to resolve the chaotic vehicular traffic within the metropolis to bring relief to road users.

“We have reiterated our election promises to transform the infrastructural landscape of this state and this is a pointer to our resolve to extend this gesture to all towns of this state. Let me again assure you that we shall not relent in this effort as many more roads shall be constructed and upgraded to befitting status.”

In his address, the Commissioner for Works, Mr Gboye Adegbenro (an engineer), said the 14.8 kilometre Emure Ile-Iyere Road would be completed in three phases.

Mimiko also commissioned five other developmental projects in both Owo and Ose local government areas including town halls and local government legislative quarters, Owo

The planned expansion of the Arakale Road in the middle of Akure, the Ondo State capital, into a dual carriageway, will lead to the demolition of 890 shops and 338 buildings, the Chairman, Arakale Relocation Committee, Mr. Akin Adaramola, has said.

Adaramola, who is also the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ondo State, however, added that displaced people had been paid compension in August, while some shop owners had been relocated to vacant shops in other markets within Akure.

Adaramola said that the state government was looking for a permanent solution to the worsening traffic situation on major roads in Akure as a result of the activities of traders in building materials.

The Arakale Road project, according to the state government, is meant to contribute significantly to the beautification and infrastructural transformation of the city into a modern capital.

The project, which will cost the state government over N2.8bn, is also aimed at resolving the chaotic vehicular traffic on the road and further relieving the Oyemekun/Oba Adesida Road of traffic pressure.

The 7.5-kilometre Arakale road is the fourth major road project embarked upon by the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko administration, following in the footsteps of the rehabilitation/asphalt overlay of the Oyemekun-Adesida-Mobil junction, dualisation of the Mobil-Oba Ile Town-Airport Junction road; and the dualisation of the Itanla Junction-Ademulegun-Yaba-Akure Motor Park in Ondo town. - that bit is in Ondo TownMimiko explained that N2.8bn had been budgeted for the project, out of which N900m was earmarked for the payment of compensation to property owners, who would lose their properties to the expansion of the road.

Being handled by Messrs Fountain Construction Company Limited, the project has provision for the installation of street lights, walkways, median, two major car parks and gardens.

The governor said that some of his predecessors had looked into the desirability of making the road a dual carriageway but were put off because of the enormous political, capital and social goodwill that were needed to see it through.

The governor expressed gratitude to the traditional leadership of Akure for accommodating the structural demands of modern urban planning, and to the indigenes and traders, who had to relocate as a result of the exercise.

Mimiko said, ”It is our expectation that the contractors and all parties involved in handling this project will ensure a timely completion of their jobs and for same to be in accordance with expected specifications and best standards.”

He gave the assurance that all ongoing road contracts inherited and those awarded by his administration would be seen to completion, noting that, between February 2009 and now, the government had paid about N13.5bn for performance certificates on various road projects in the state.

He admonished contractors handling road projects in the state to make maximum use of the coming dry season for the completion of their projects.

The state Commissioner for Works, Mr. Gboye Adegbenro, explained that the reconstruction of the Arakale Road into a dual carriageway would give the state capital a face lift and contribute to making it a mega city.

According to Adaramola, the government has directed the committee to look for a suitable site for the construction of a building materials village in the outskirt of the town.

He added that the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development was already looking into that possibility.

A NEW TOLLED ROAD THAT WOULD REDUCE THE JOURNEY BETWEEN AKURE- LAGOS BY 45 MINUTES

WINDOW of respite may have opened for travellers who ply the Ore route, with the emergence last week that three multi-national firms are bidding for the proposed N10billion Ondo Township-Ajegbende Road (Ogun State) dual carriageway.

Promoted by the Ondo State government as public partnership scheme, the road project design has been completed while the state authorities are studying documents submitted by the investors who are likely to be one of the contractors. Those already showing interest are two Chinese firms- Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited, CRCC and Strabag Construction Company.

Proposed as a joint venture between the government and the contractor, with the two partners contributing equally, the road project on completion will have a tollgate. The 36 kilometre dual carriage way is to link Ondo Township with popular ?J4? and to traverses Laje-Ajegbende area in Ogun state en-route Lagos. Other details, according to senior officials of the government would be unfolded after the contractor is selected.

Coming under the state?s urban renewal development, which has taken root in Akure, the state capital, Okitipupa and Ikare, other projects associated with the scheme and completed are ?The Caring Heart Auto-mart Complex,? (CHAC) an ultra modern auto market, located along Owo -Benin Road, Akure, the Akure Ultra Modern Park, the Okitipupa and Ikare modern parks.

Similarly, the multi-billion Arakale Road expansion project was kick-started three months ago, other developmental efforts are the expansion of Oba Adesida Road, Akure, and the proposed Ikale-Ajowa Road and Owo township road dualisation, which beneficiaries include the southern part of the state such as Ikale, Ajowa and Ikaramu, up to the border of Kwara State is also to benefit from the project. The contract worth N4.7 billion has been awarded to Borini Prono Company.

Another project for the dualisation of Owo township Road, stretching about nine kilometres has also been awarded to CGC construction at the cost of N4.3 billion.

The state?s Commissioner for Works, Mr. Gboye Adegbenro, said that the idea to embark on the dualisation of Ondo-Ajegbende Road was to ease the burden of the East and Southeast bound travellers, who, by necessity, had to go through Ore Township.

?Initially, we were contemplating on having overhead bridge at the Ore junction, so that travellers going to Akure, Ondo-Owo Road would take the overhead bridg, but the Federal Government didn?t give the approval. Besides, experience has shown that if the state embarked on such project without approval, it would be difficult to get the money back.?

He said that government viewed road as a necessary infrastructure that people of Ondo State were yearning for, ?because socio-economic activities cannot thrive where there is lack of access road. ? Presently in Ondo State, we have almost 46 consultants that are supervising our road projects, while N10 billion was earmarked for the expansion, reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads in Akure, the state capital.?

Complimenting the various road projects is the auto-mart complex, located along the Owo-Ilesha Expressway. The complex was designed to accommodate the auto dealers displaced from the heart of Akure Township, where road expansion, beautification and other environmentally related projects are ongoing.

The complex that sits on two hectares of land designed to accommodate 1,200 vehicles. The project worth N246 million is sandwiched between two transport related institutions; namely, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ondo State Sector Command Office and NNPC Mega Station.

Speaking on the project, the Special Adviser to Governor Olusegun Mimiko on Direct Labour, Mrs. Mobolaji Tunde-Suara, a town planner, said two commercial banks; namely, FirstBank and United Bank for Africa (UBA), had indicated their interest to open branches at the complex.

On the space hitherto occupied by the traders in the central Akure, he said that the government had decided to redevelop the area by widening the road network, make the necessary provision for right of way, (ROW) while future desire is to turn the areas to Akure Central Business District (ACBD).

The Ultra modern park situated along the Ondo Road, valued at N100 million, Suara said that the park would accommodate those that were affected by urban renewal programme while the Akure Park project was designed to have 30 lock-up shops, and had the capacity for 40 vehicles at the loading points.

The project that commenced in August 30, 2010 is expected to complete next month, March 2011, while the automart is due for commissioning next week.

ODSG Spends N13.4B On Road Projects, Warns Contractors Against Shoddy Jobs. … As Mimiko Flags Off N2.8bn Arakale Dual-Carriageway Project
Monday 1st Nov 2010

The Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko on Monday in Akure, the State capital, flagged off the N2.8billion NEPA-Arakale dual-carriage way with the disclosure that the State Government has in the last twenty months paid a whopping sum of N13.4 billion on Performance Certificates on various on-going road projects in the State with a warning to contractors hoping to do shoddy jobs to be ready for stiff sanctions.

The governor described the project as long-overdue as well as one of the biggest steps ever taken since the creation of Ondo State in 1976.

According to Mimiko, “Dualization of this road is aimed at resolving the chaotic
vehicular traffic on the road and to further relieve the Oyemekun-Oba Adesida road of its high vehicular traffic. The contractors and all the parties involved in this project should ensure a timely completion of their jobs and for same to be in accordance with expected specifications and best standards.

“This dualization is costing the state government the sum of N2.847 billion, cost of compensation inclusive. It is instructive to know that we have paid all compensations to those already cleared and we shall pay as soon as the clearance for payment is completed. It is expected that a total sum of N1 billion would have been paid at the end of the exercise” the governor stated.

On the impact of the project on the socio-economic life of the people, Dr Mimiko explained that the dualization job was part of an on-going exercise at both the beautification and infrastructural transformation of Akure into modern capital.

“I am aware that some of my predecessors in office must have looked into the desirability of dualizing this road, but must have been put off probably because of the enormous political capital and social goodwill that might be expended to see it through” the Ondo State helmsman reminisced.

The governor equally appreciated the uncommon accommodation shown by the traditional leadership and the people of Akure for the structural demands of modern urban planning as well as indigenes and traders who relocated to pave way for the project.

“Let me reiterate that all on-going road contracts both inherited (51 road projects in all) and those awarded by this administration will be seen to completion. I hereby enjoin all road contractors operating in this state to make maximum use of the coming dry season” Mimiko declared.

Earlier in his address, the State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Gboye Adegbenro, an Engineer, disclosed that the NEPA-Arakale road dualization project has a total of 2.25kilometers and would be a dual-carriage way of 9.2 meters with of asphalt pavement on each side as well as a 2.4 meters wide concrete pedestrian walk way on either sides.

He disclosed that in order to make way for the road project, over 360 buildings would be demolished along the right of way while another 15 building would give way for the establishment of two motor parks. He also disclosed that over 980 traders were affected and would be re-allocated.

In his short remarks, the Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adesida expressed the gratitude of the Akure people to the State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko whom he described as the Architect of new Akure saying that the spate of transformation projects being embarked upon by the Governor in Akure was unprecedented.

While calling on the people of the town to persevere while the project lasts, the Deji equally enjoined the Governor to ensure that funds were made available for the completion of the project in record time.

Tell us what your Governor is doing to start with. Mimiko is really punching above his weight. What has our glorified heros like Fashola done to the towns outside Lagos Metropolis, like Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry or  what has Amechi done to towns outside PH. If you can tell me  what these two gentlemen has done knowing fully well  they are some of the finest Governors around,  then we can start talking.

Ondo votes N170m for Akure, Ikare, Ore master plan

Ondo State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Kunle Ashaolu, said on Tuesday that the state would spend N170m to produce a new master plan for Akure, Ikare and Ore this year.

Ashaolu, who stated this in an interview with journalists in his office, explained that some consultants were already working on the project and that the exercise would be extended to other parts of the state very soon.

He also said that the state government had banned further approval of petrol stations in the metropolis and had directed that construction of buildings below four storeys would no longer be allowed on the Oba Adesida, Oyemekun, Arakale and Hospital Roads in Akure.

He insisted that the move was to discourage indiscriminate erection of structures along the highways, which he said was responsible for the present condition of the state capital.

He said the decision not to approve any structure less than four storeys along the major roads in the city was taken by the state government in conformity with the dream of a skyline that was being projected for the metropolis.

He stated that when the first phase of the master plan had been concluded, other major urban centres like Ondo, Owo, Ido-Ani, Idanre and Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo would benefit from the project.

He said, “This is what we can accommodate in the present budget, the rest would be taken care of later.”

He said that the master plan for the three towns would cost the state government N170m and that about 29 companies had shown interest in the consultancy, out of which a winner, whose competence was confirmed, would get the job.

He regretted the sorry condition of urban centres in the state, saying, “People were just constructing structures without following laid-down procedures. That is why we have this haphazard development everywhere. We are, however, determined to correct the situation.”

Ashaolu also said the state government had placed a ban on the processing of application for building of filling stations in Akure.

mimiko is not, he has no money to transform ondo state because the oil derivation goes to  anothers.  there is no stadium in ondo state.

the university has no building, you need to see it. you cant compare to bayelsa or river state where jonathan is pumping all the money, even while Ondo state produce more oil than bayelsa state.  go to ondo state and you see how the people are suffering, even kano , abuja are enjoying , while ondo state that own the oil is suffering.

Instead of fighting for your right ,

where is the money gotting to come from. the sky.
while they use the money to take care of themself in other state, the state that produce the money they suffer. is that fair.

@poster, you have only emphasised on roads, well any governor that is repairing and opening up new roads is doing a wise thing because it is essential to economic development of those places but I know a couple of other governors who have also constructed roads impressively in their states but people rejected them absolutely and it got me then thinking that Nigerians are beginning to smarten up by asking much more than roads from these governors. But if Mimiko is applauded this much for constructing roads, hmm, well I wont jump to conclusions, this is just my observation

You are right, but feds allocation is not enough to do anything especially without meaningful IGR

Seems like the Governor is managing by awarding contracts to build roads and other infrastructures, these are critical investments.
