WHO WILL PROBE THE PERSONS THAT DIED DURING GEJ'S CAMPAIGN IN PH? OR THEY WERE NOT HUMANS SINCE THEY WERE NOT CORP MEMBERS?

WHO WILL PROBE THE PERSONS THAT DIED WHEN DAME PATIENCE SHARED RICE AT ABUJA. IT WAS REPORTED THAT 90% OF THE RICE SHARED WENT TO THE SECURITY PERSONNELS WHO WERE CONSCRIPTED TO ENSURE A SMOOTH PROCESS. THEY ENDED UP RENDERING SOME PERSONS WIDOWERS.

I'm trying to grasp your point here? The riots that broke out during GEJ campaign in PH was a stampede, and even though people also died, there is no way any rational human being can compare a spontenous stampede that usually occur in over-crowded areas with planned and cordinated attacks on helpless and unarmed people across 6-7 states of the federation.
Do we need better police-ing practice of political crowds, yes, but to compare it Buhari's planned, and cordinated multi-state mayhem of civilians and youth corpers, just because we didn't make him president, you've got to be a very poor student of logic to think anybody believes youembarassed

Which means wheather by stampede, riots, bomb blast, Buko Harams, etc. . . .

Buhari is not afraid of any panel, Obasanjo has set up a panel on him before and he came out clean, your GEJ does not have the powers, it has been tested in court and there is nothing he can do about it, he can instigate the state governments to set up their panels, the case that Gani won gives the powers to the states, the National Assembly can set up a panel only in Abuja and it has no power to summon people outside of the FCT, please use google.

Is there a Nigerian alive more deserving of the GALLOWS and the WHIP, than Muhammadu Buhari?

A murderer let loose on the population?

A criminal walking free as innocents are coldly slaughtered?

Oh Justice! Where art Thou?

The ground is soaked with the blood of innocent Nigerians, screaming for justice.

Better still to say that all causes of death are not equal, especially if you honestly want to prevent a reoccurance. Deaths from people trying to make a political statment is not the same as death from car accidents, medical mistakes, and even stampede in movie theaters or political rallies.

I assume you don't want to recognize the difference between IBB's military dictatorship and our current democratic dispensation.
Even if Buhari somehow manages to win in court like he used to do, because of technicality, what does it do to his image politically- that's what he doesn't understand.
Image is worth more than gold to politicians. Avoiding steps designed to unearth the cause of this current riot will not work well for the image he's trying to present. Tomorrow now, he go begin wonder how SE managed to give somebody 98% of their votes.

I made a mistake, it was not even from the military time, the case was in 2003 and it was Gani versus IBB.

Don't mind him jare.
A glarring mayhem caused by cops (who should protect lives) by shooting sporadically into the 'fresh air' (as someone said).
This deserves a high-level of enquiry.

As for the fights that led to deaths of Corp members, it is highly condemnable and investigated adequately.
However, every Nigerian deserves security of life and property. No death is greater or weightier than the other. Death is death.

Kobojunkie:

Reported death toll was in the high 100s but only 10 youth corp members reported dead? And some people were up in a roar as if it was all against youth corp members!

“While we want justice for the people who lost their lives, we need to alert the whole world that the handling of this issue by President Jonathan is the worst form of mischief dance on the graves of the dead,” Buhari said. Buhari explained: “It is galling that a President who has not shaken off the allegation that he distributed dollars within Nigeria, will value a slain Corper who would have been a breadwinner for life for his family at a token of 5 million naira.“The motive behind this gesture could at best only be a photo-op with the families and not genuine concerns for the dead.

“The Federal Government by law, has no powers to investigate any disturbances outside the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as pronounced by the Supreme Court in Fawehinmi vs Babangida.“The 22-man panel set up by the President, is therefore a hollow ritual meant to just-play politics with a serious national tragedy.

Further interesting read!! So how exactly is the INVESTIGATION INTO THE almost 600 deaths ( note,  not just 10 corp members died during the violence but about 600 people did) coming along. Is justice ever going to be served in this case? Or are we, simply paying the families of only the 10 corp members money(while the other innocent lives get nothing),and then going back to our seats to wait till the next riot to wail again?

Death is Death? Not according to the thinking of many, even on this particular thread.

It is disturbing that the international press focused on the total count, while a large portion in Nigeria, our local media, and even so-called enlightened folks here on nairaland, focused on just 10 out of the over 500 that died. We have seen people rushing to sign petitions to essentially SHUT down a program that has fallen victim, like so many other programs have, to incompetence on the part of the Government, over the death of 10 corp members, but how many such petitions have you seen to, maybe shut down government for not appropriately securing the other over 500 lives that were lost during the same days we speak of? And we are only refering to the deaths that happened the week of April 16th, not even those who died days and months before. We really have a lot of fickle-minded individuals among us!

Always running after the chaff, leaving the grains behind!

In as much as I want justice for the violence, for a sitting president to resort to an act of illegality is a set back to our democractic experiment.

A competent court of the FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA on whose shoulder rest the interpretation of the LAWS of the land has made pronoucement on this matter and the president with the supposedly wealth of advisers at his disposals ought to know better.

What this timely call by Buhari means is that whatever findings this panel comes up with has no 'weight' in the law courts as the law does not recognize her existance!

Why can't we have a President that know what is right to do and do it rightly? - First it was the diplomatic Uganda saga that has now put the lives of ordinary nigerians at high risk of being attack over there, now an act of illegality is being perpetuated by same President.

This is why some of you Buhari supporters lose respect.
The president's convoy was mistankely attacked by people who mistook him for the Mr. Kisegy the opposition leader, or do you think CPC supporters "attacked" the president in Uganda
What has that incident got to do with need to bring those who planned, executed, and financed the post Nigerian election violence to book?
Like I said, Buhari could win the legal tangle over technicality, but what does it do to his image?
He and IBB won the legal battle not to appear the truth and reconcilliation panel of Oputa, and it has taken them more than 10 years to try to justify that to the public.
Now, if he's not directly involved in planning and executing these post election violence, why is he risking his whole statemanly stature by appearing to hinder these probe panels.
He's not quarreling with the composition of the panel, but he has a beef with the so-called precedence during a military regime embarassed
An unrelated analogy.

I AM DISAPOINTED IN YOUR COMMENT AS A FELLOW COMPATRIOT. MR. PRESIDENT HAS THE RIGHT TO INVESTIGATE WHAT HAPPENS IN HIS COUNTRY. IN THE NAME OF THE CORPERS THAT LOST THEIR LIVES IF THIS MAN IS FOUND GUILTY AND HE TENDS TO PUT SOME CHALLENGES, I PROMISE YOU ONE THING AND THAT IS CLIPPING HIS WINGS BY PEOPLE LIKE US THAT ARE LAYING ARMBUSH FOR HIM. Oh wait . . . . the death of 10 corp members is enough reason for the president to ignore protocol, but the other 500 or more deaths is not worth investigating? Talk about disappointment.

I mean imagine some riff-raff, or mob comes at your loved ones, or any people close to you, and burns them to death, are you suggesting then that the government not move swiftly to ensure speedy investigation into the deaths, and prosecution of the criminals,  if victim are not corp member?? WOW You do realize your post above is filled with ethnic hate and nothing sensible?

Seems obvious that you cannot read between the lines! For the President to make a very careless error of judgement in attending the swearing in of a dictator Moseveni shows how 'shallow'the  diplomatic intelligence him and his 'men' possesses. Same goes for this 'illegal' panel He went ahead to constitue. How on earth would a sitting President ignore a very recent judgement (going by legal years)by the supreme court even so that the Government of Plateau state not long ago challenged and won a case against the FG on a similar matter.

This illegality and the misjudgement on the Uganda saga is a pointer to the seemingly incompetence of this government.

FYI, Buhari have asked GEJ to arrest and prosecute anybody including himself if there are incriminating evidence against them but nothing has been forthcoming from this inept government.

And as for the 5million naira 'greek' gift to the families of the slain, again, shows GEJ's seemingly incompetence!

How much did GEJ spend to bribe his way during the PDP primaries where delegates were given 'gifts' in US $$? Now those who lost thier lives in serving the nation gets a token 5million naira - like a spat on thier grave

Another silly post full of empty threats!
Like PDP has always done- ignoring the laws of the land as long as they stand to benefit from such.

Supreme Court ruled that the FG (by extension Mr. President)was not vested with any power in the constitution to investigate any act of violence/disturbance outside of the FCT and that of the FCT can only be done by the permission the NASS!
So setting up this panel with the mandate to investigate post election violence outside of the FCT is an illegal act and such should be condemed.
If GEJ truly value the blood of those slained as precious, let him take the hard road, pressurize the governors in those states to set up a panel to investigate such in line with the constitution and thereafter use the evidence from the findings of the panel to prosecute anyone indicted in any competent court of the land.

As per your empty threats, let me remind you that since the post election mayhem Buhari has been visible in the public and not even the FG has arrested him 'cos they know they have no evidence against him-Buhari have even gone a step further requesting the FG and GEJ to arrest and prosecute him in court if they have any evidence to do so.

Spot on!But when do you expect from a bunch of numpties? As ever they go after the messenger and not the message.

In civilized climes, the Minister of Justice would have been on major tv channels to try and put a stop to any insinuation of the illigality of the president's actions but what you find in nigeria is name calling by those who ought to be out there justifying thier actions before the citizens.

No question that your hatred love for GEJ runs deep, but lets try to keep the conversation to this thread without going to Uganda grin
I agree with you that the president needs to hurry up the investigation, start arresting, and prosecuting the evil doers, no matter whose ox is gored.

Hello Nairalanders,

I was a strong Buhari supporter in this election cycle that just passed. However, I was very disappointed with the violence that took place after the election. To make matters worse I ran into a comment that came from Buhari's campaign on CNN. Here is my video expressing my anger. Please post this on your facebook page.

My dear, that's the question everybody is asking. Why, why, oh why?
Even if GEJ had not instituted a panel, Buhari should have been at the forefront asking for one. No. He now wants to read or misread law into all efforts to get to the bottom of this carnage. But what about his reputation as a Nigerian leader
