The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has intensified the academic exchange programme with Chinese institutions with the successful training of six of its lecturers in Chinese language and culture.


The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Boniface Egboka, said this on Tuesday at a ceremony to mark his second year in office.


He said while six lecturers from UNIZIK were being sponsored by the Chinese government to undergo more studies in China, there were Chinese lecturers at the Confucius Institute in Awka, established in 2007.


He said, “Our lecturers in China will start teaching the Chinese at Xiamen University Igbo language and culture to enhance international understanding and cooperation across boundaries.


“The Chinese government has approved UNIZIK as a centre for taking the Chinese HSK Language Proficiency Examination for certification of those who can write and speak the Chinese language.


“We will begin to issue UNIZIK certificates and diplomas to all our candidates that have undergone the Chinese language training of this university and passed. Such people will be allowed to take the HSK examinations and get the Chinese government certificate if they pass.


“A degree programme in Chinese language and culture has been prepared and approved by the Senate for submission to the NUC for a resource verification exercise and eventual approval.”


He added that the university had continued with linkage programmes with universities in Asia, America, Europe and Africa.


The vice-chancellor said with the support of the governing council and the entire staff and students, his administration had been able to make significant progress.

The form is being sold for #1,000 only.
