‍‍‍‍‍THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SPEAKING IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE TO THE CHURCH, AND SPEAKING IN TONGUE IN PRAYER TO GOD , AND SPEAKING IN OTHER TONGUES TO MEN
. Part (1)one .

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍The issue of whether believers should speak or pray in tongues  in the church is still a big controversy today.
Differences in doctrine is one of the major factors that brought division into the body of christ as we have it today.

It is good to separate like the protestants  and the Roman church (with the aim to bring the truth to light, and thereby bring back unity at the end)  if you perceived that a denomination is in a blatant error presumptuously (purposely),and are determined to remain so.
But it is much more important to seek accurate understanding concerning that which you perceived to be error by pressing into the (holy) spirit, and seeking illumination from his mind in truth and in spirit, for it is written ‍1 Corinthians 2:13-16(NKJ)
[13]These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
[14]But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
[15]But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.
[16]For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Verse 14 said "the things of the Spirit of God are to be spiritually discern not carnally (not by mere human reasoning) but by the inspiration of the Spirit when one contemplate and meditate with an open (non sentimental) mind in order to arrive at the truth of that which one contemplated upon .

And sometimes you could be supernaturally transported into the Spirit realm, and the realities you are shown there would beat your understanding of written doctrines ( without portraying the scriptures as false but revealing the limits of your own understanding) . Test all spirits whether they are of God.

What you saw written as 6 in a book and proclaimed as six in your exegesis (preaching) could turn out to be 9 when you see it from the (spirit) realm from where it was inspired.

Let's dig into what the Bible said about speaking in tongue or praying in tongue (since some people took  praying to God in tongue , and speaking to the church in tongue to mean the same thing)

The apostle Paul writing to the Corinthians in the chapter 14 of his first letter wrote concerning spiritual gifts.
He wrote on the subject of tongues while admonishing them to chose or desire much more the gifts that could edify the church of which he projected prophecy as on of such gift (without excluding the GIFT of speaking in TONGUES )

He wrote.
(NKJ) 1 Corinthians 14:1-2
[1]Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
[2]For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
1 Corinthians 14:3
[3]But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.

he said those who speaks in tongue are speaking (that is to say "they are praying" ) to God, and what they are saying is being directed to God and not to the church, (because no one could understand them, neither do they themselves know what they are saying, because the words that proceed from their mouth are mysteries (being a spiritual language that only God could understand,)

But those who prophecy are prophesying to the people (and not to God) so their words could be understood by they that hear them and even themselves.
So prophesying edifies the church because it is directed to the church and would be spoken in a language the church could understand, whereby speaking in tongue (while praying to God) can't edify the church because it is directed to God and not to man, and it is spoken in a language no man could understand.

But concerning speaking in tongue Paul opened another page in verse 27 he said.
(ERV)
1 Corinthians 14:27-28
[27]When you meet together, if anyone speaks to the group in a different language, it should be only two or no more than three people who do this. And they should speak one after the other. And someone else should interpret what they say.
[28]But if there is no interpreter, then anyone who speaks in a different language should be quiet in the church meeting. They should speak only to themselves and to God.

The kind of tongues he was talking about here is not the one you can speak by your own will (that is to say your own doing or understanding) it is different from that type you speak while praying.
The one you speak while praying is not a gift, whereby
The one he was talking about here is a gift from the holy spirit as mentioned here
1 Corinthians 12:7,10
[7]Something from the Spirit can be seen in each person. The Spirit gives this to each one to help others.
[10]The Spirit gives to one person the power to do miracles, to another the ability to prophesy, and to another the ability to judge what is from the Spirit and what is not. The SPIRIT GIVES ONE PERSON the ABILITY TO SPEAK IN DIFFERENT KINDS OF LANGUAGES , AND TO ANOTHER THE ABILITY TO INTERPRET THOSE LANGUAGES .
so this one is a gift, and it is only those who have the gift that can speak or interpret this one.
However you don't need a gift before you can pray in tongue, all you need is the baptism of the holy spirit, and you are good to go, you can start praying in tongues.
Every one who has the holy spirit dwelling in them can pray in tongue, but not everyone who has the holy spirit or prays in tongue can speak in TONGUES (that is different languages of the world) or interpret them, unless they pray to God to give them that gift even though they might have been baptized with the holy spirit already. As it is written (ERV) 1 Corinthians 12:30
[30]Not all have gifts of healing. Not all speak in different kinds of languages. Not all interpret those languages.
TAKE NOTE :
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT.

So, as I was saying earlier in :
1 Corinthians 14:27
Notice he (Paul) said "if anyone speak in tongue to the group, he didn't say speak to God (that is praying to God) but speaking to the church in an unknown tongue, he said let let someone else interpret what that person said to the church.
Now this kind of speaking is different from the first one we discussed.
The first one he WAS talking about "is SPEAKING IN TONGUE WHILE PRAYING TO GOD, "  while this second one is SPEAKING in an unknown tongue TO THE CHURCH (and not to God) thereby needing an interpreter so that the church could be edify.

The first one is : praying to God by speaking in tongues .

The second is about :speaking in a tongues (unknown) to the church (congregation) when there is an interpreter who would interpret what the speaker is saying to the church (congregation) which is a message from (the holy spirit) of God to the church.

So speaking in tongues in prayer to God, and speaking in an unknown tongue that needs interpretation to the church or to the world  are not the same.

I have witnessed speaking in unknown tongue to the church in the former church I was attending.
It use to happen this way
"while the whole congregation are praying the Spirit of God would (sometimes, and not all the time) take over a certain woman who has the gift of that manifestation of the Spirit, and she would lose control of her lips and began to blab in strange tongues , a kind of tongue that is  a little bit different from the normal type one would speak if it to be by one's will. And then another different woman who has the gift to interpret tongues would then  interpret what the first woman said to the church(congregation) .

Now my point is :speaking in tongues is scriptural.
there are three different kinds of speaking in TONGUES.
the three are not forbidden to be spoken in the church according to the scriptures, and the three are not directed to the same person but different persons ; one to God in prayer, another to the church for her edification, and then the other one to men whose tongue (languages) you can't speak naturally, but when you speak in tongues they don't hear you speaking tongues but rather they hear you speaking their own languages (because the holy spirit will give you such utterances) .

The one directed to God is allowed to function as it is a form of prayer to God, while the one directed to the church is said to be put to silence if the speaker can not interpret it or if there is no one in the congregation who can interpret it, so the speaker is admonished to turn it to prayer between his or her self and  God  .

While the one of various languages which is to be spoken to men outside the church (unbelievers) or to those in the church (in case you are a missionary in a nation whose languages you don't understand neither is there anyone among them who understood yours (so as to help interpret to the people) , and you are to minister in their churches.

Sir, speaking in tongues is only of two types.

The first one is speaking in unknown tongues that is only unto God and a mystery to man.

Then the second one, which is speaking in other tongues is done in other peoples language that you have no knowledge of or understand. That is the type an interpreter who understands the language can interprete.

Prophecy is not the same as speaking in tongues. Its a message from God in plain language everyone can understand.

Nice piece, Sir.

What makes you say praying in tongues is not a gift?

Mind you, it not everyone that can pray in tongues.

CharisEleos:
What makes you say praying in tongues is not a gift?

Did you require a gift before you could post this comment here?
The answer is no, for the scriptures says 1 Corinthians 14:14,18,39
[14]For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

He said "if" Which implies that it is a choice you can decide to make or not, For the Spirit of the prophet is subject to the prophet.

You don't need a gift before you can pray to God,
Paul said
[18]I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;
. Which means all can pray in tongues, because he said he prays in tongues more than they all.

Mind you, it not everyone that can pray in tongues.
No. Every one can pray In tongues but not every can speak in tongues.
Praying In tongues, and speaking in tongues are not the same thing.

To pray in tongues all you need is the baptism of the holy spirit,
But you need a gift before you can speak in tongue.
Look at this scripture.
1 Corinthians 12:10,30
[10]The Spirit gives to one person the power to do miracles, to another the ability to prophesy, and to another the ability to judge what is from the Spirit and what is not. The Spirit gives one person the ability to speak in different kinds of languages, and to another the ability to interpret those languages.
[30]Not all have gifts of healing. Not all speak in different kinds of languages. Not all interpret those languages.

CharisEleos:
Sir, speaking in tongues is only of two types.

No they are three types :speaking to God in prayer, speaking to the church in tongues, and speaking to a people of other languages in their own tongue.

The first one is speaking in unknown tongues that is only unto God and a mystery to man.

Yes that is the one of prayer.

Then the second one, which is speaking in other tongues is done in other peoples language that you have no knowledge of or understand. That is the type an interpreter who understands the language can interpreted.

On the day of Pentecost when the apostles spake in tongues the people outside understood what they were saying, without the help of any interpreter, that is the one of diverse kinds of tongues.

Prophecy is not the same as speaking in tongues. Its a message from God in plain language everyone can understand.

Yes prophecy is not speaking in TONGUES, and speaking in TONGUES is different from praying in tongues.

When you pray in tongues you direct it to God, but when you speak in tongues it is either to the church or to the world.
You don't need to speak in tongues before God can understand what you are saying, but when you pray in tongues, you pray in the Spirit

Nice piece, Sir.

Jude 1:17-20
[17]But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:
[18]how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.
[19]These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit. Maintain Your Life with God
[20]But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

The something to believe in that your are looking for in your signature is "jesus christ"
But because your brain is limited that is why you are finding it hard to believe in the books that testify of him.
That's a proof that your brain is limited my dear

If you're finding it hard to pray or felt tired,
Then start praying in tongues, and after some time you will feel booted, and strengthen in your inner man.
