All the dictionary defines war as violent conflict between 2 countries or group.

Even CNN and fox news that know better than both of us calls it the Iraq war or the war in Afghanistan.

Mind you in 1991 US fought Iraq in the gulf war after Iraq invaded Kuwait and US won.
