the amount quoted isn't outrageous considering that the said cows will be imported from overseas. if the cost of purchase is added to the shipping cost, the N9.2m is within the cost range.

If not because of the usual ignorance, hatred, bitterness, bad bele and tribalism, common sense should tell you that Friesian bulls are very expensive with some going for almost N2 million each.

In fact, N9 million to some sounds like a good deal.

But what do you Igbos know? Nothing but hatred and bitterness.

£2000 is less than N1.3M, going by this, how will you buy 5 cows at N9.2M. Buhari has taken corruption to a whole new heights. Governors and public office holders are following after his footsteps.

So you'll ship fly them to Nigeria for free?

You wont pay medicals for them?

You wont pay custom duties on them?

And if they land at the airport/seaport, you'll also transport them to Kano for free?

Add the cost of all these and then let's see the amount it cost.

Try and import ordinary dog and you'll be shocked at the cost.

Sadly for you, this is not about going to any market in your village to buy any cow, this is about buying Friesian bulls, the priced bulls breeding farms raised specifically for commercial dairy operations so instead of ranting about your village market cow, tell us how much they sell Friesian bulls.

Why are you people so shallow..?

Famous Scientist Dr. Emeagwali Hails from Igbo Land

In this day and age when Japanese, Chinese or anyone remotely resembling Asian descent is automatically presumed to hold superior mathematical and technological aptitude, Dr. Emeagwali poses a refreshing reminder (1) to the world that intellectual gifts come in all races, creeds and colors; and (2) to Igbos that when we strive for excellence, there is no limit to what we can achieve ... so strive for excellence!
So who is Philip Emeagwali, and what has he done that has made him so famous? Emeagwali first entered the international limelight in 1989 when he received the prestigious Gordon Bell Prize for performing the world's fastest calculation at 3.1 billion calculations per second. This calculation was remarkable not only because it was twice as fast as the previous world record, but also because of the method used to achieve this phenomenal task. Rather than use a multimillion dollar supercomputer, Emeagwali used the Internet to access 65,536 small computers simultaneously (called massively parallel computers).
nity is indeed strength as demonstrated by Emeagwali's approach. This technology is revolutionizing the oil industry as it is used to help simulate how to recover oil from oilfields, thus helping oil producing nations to efficiently extract more oil and increase their oil revenues. It is also applicable to the field of meteorology as it can be used to help predict weather patterns for the next 100 years forecast.

Since this invention, Emeagwali has made numerous other achievements and received dozens of honors and awards across the globe in the field of mathematics, science and computers.

Isn't it just like an Igbo, to use existing resources and push them to their fullest potential to achieve unsurpassed results that would revolutionize several major industries at once. Remember Emmanuel Egbujo, inventor of the solar powered car or Damien Anyanwu who invented Radio Mbaise from Igbo traditional methods? Remember during the Nigeria Biafra War when Emeagwali was a mere refugee, his kinsfolk developed the "Ogbunigwe" bomb (popularly called the Ojukwu bucket) which dazzled the world of super powers. They also developed a self-sufficient petroleum refining method which Nigeria is yet to discover.

Ndi Igbo lay claim to Emeagwali's achievements not to subtract from their magnanimity, but to remind our Igbo brothers and sisters that we have a tradition of competitiveness and excellence. However, like many of Nigeria's untapped resources this type of genius lies grossly underdeveloped in millions of Nigerian children and even in ourselves.

Some of Emeagwali's inventions are so complex, that only the most sophisticated computer scientist and mathematicians can understand them. However, the creation of Emeagwali himself is a simple story. Emeagwali was born to Onitsha parents, his father being a nurse and mother a housewife. As a child, his father focused on the development of his son's mathematical skills and required him on a daily basis to solve 100 math problems in one hour. This method helped to develop Emeagwali into a mathematical wizard as his abilities soon surpassed his father's. Although showing great promise, Emeagwali's education threatened to derail when he was forced to drop out of school at the age 14 because his father was unable to pay his school fees. However, Emeagwali continued to study and eventually received a scholarship to Oregon State University in the USA where he earned a B.S. Subsequently, he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, two Masters Degrees from George Washington University and a third Masters Degree from the University of Maryland. Isn't it just like an Igbo to overcome such odds only to excel and excel and excel?

And to top it all off, Emeagwali is married to an accomplished scientist in her own right. Dr. Dale Brown Emeagwali, renowned microbiologist was named 1996 Scientist of the Year by the National Technical Association. The Emeagwali's have one child.

Dr. Philip Emeagwali is truly an international treasure, and IGBO BASICS looks forward to his appearance at the World Igbo Congress Conference in New York.

Yes, you will need up to that amount of money to purchase 5 Fresian cattle (both bulls and cows).

Anyway, I expect some ignorant Nairalanders to quote me and say rubbish.
Meanwhile, this is how a Fresian cow looks like
There are so many things wrong with this . Not just the cost or price

This does not appear to be part of any clear or coherent strategy
Is there any research basis to show this particular breed will do well in Kano?
Brazil is a country with a similar climate to ours. They have developed a breed the Girolando with proven milk productivity so why go with this breeds
Why only 5 ? Is this an experimental venture if so what is the protocol ?
5 is not a commercial scale

These things are best left with the private sector .
Nothing wrong in government supporting research but this is quite a vague scheme

Garba-Muhammad said: “Friesian cattle produce large quantity of milk and their male calves can also be fattened to produce good quality beef.

“You may be aware that Kano has two Animal Insemination Centres, one in Kadawa and the other one in Makoda.

“Our project will equip and operationalize the one at Kadawa to enable it inseminate 25,000 cows per annum, beginning from this year.
“That is why we are providing the bulls,” he said.

He noted that Artificial Insemination (AI) was an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) used globally to deposit or store semen directly into a cow or heifer’s uterus.

To start with, they know more than you and the fact that you don't know anything about their work or if they've done any research doesn't mean they have not conducted any research.

The 5 cows are not for reselling so what commercial scale are you talking about? They are going to artificially inseminate them to generate thousands of cows.

Friesian Bull is very popular in Nigeria and sub-Africa in general so I don't see any issue regarding climate.

You are not a dairy farmer and it's obvious that you know nothing about dairy farming, let the people do their job.

Commercial scale means THOUSANDS of Cows producing milk TO MAKE MONEY

1. I don't know you, but going by your zero knowledge about the breed in question, I do know that you are clueless and you know nothing about animal husbandry.

2. You can not ask irrelevant questions like how come they haven't done this or that simply because you don't know what they have done or haven't done and the fact that they have 2 active Animal Insemination Centres means this is not their first rodeo. They obviously know more than you. They do this for a living, but you don't.

3. You said 5 is not a commercial scale and I educated you that they are inseminating to generate thousands per year.

4. Such Government agencies conduct research to help grow and support businesses, in this case, the dairy industry, they are not necessarily selling cows. It's like the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Ibadan, they conduct research to come up with the best seeds, but they don't sell the seeds, they, they pass the seeds to farmers for planting.

Again, stick to your day job and let the people do their job.

You don't know anything and your ITK is getting boring and annoying.
