The new PIA just like any other law is not 100% perfect. However, it’s a significant improvement over what we had before. Let’s implement this for a while and observe the shortcomings. We can then amend the law based on the observed shortcomings.

Criticizing the entire law simply because you don’t like Buhari’s face is silly. Jonathan is from the Niger Delta and he was president for about 6 years without passing the law despite having comfortable majority in both houses of the National Assembly.

So, quit the hate and let’s talk about the positives of the law. Host communities getting 3% OPEX of oil companies in the upstream sector is a big deal. This is in addition to the existing 13% derivation, Ministry of Niger Delta and NDDC.

What people from host communities should be worried about now is how the 3% OPEX will be paid. Who are the people that will manage the funds on their behalf? I sincerely hope the funds will not be administered same way NDDC is being administered.

You are economical with the trurh. Do you know that pipelines that pass through communities also get to share from the 3%? Just like pipelines that pass from the south south to the north... Most northern states are also going to benefit from the 3%.

Sooner oil is loosing its value.. I will see what Nigerian government will depend on by then

Oil has been losing its value for ages. The problem is, you Nigerians, your current government, the parties including PDP, and APC, the secessionists groups, and the North all act like it isn't.

That's why none of you guys have any idea on how we are to get off oil.

The states include a lot of states in the Middle Belt, the South East and South West as well...so not just the North...plus most Northern states may not even kuku see any benefit.

Plus, we Southerners have far more education than the North, yet we won't use it to build prosperity and an economy that produces. Instead we fight over diminishing oil money. Same thing for the North....so that we can use the oil money to import stuff we can very well make.

So why did the federal government bribe the senate and House of representatives to accelerate the passage of this bill. Why didn't they consult with the masses

It is very sad to be a witness to gross injustice....a country where the south south are shortchanged to please a nothern sect!

This PIA is more lopsided than the PIB...#Fact

What is wrong with you ? Why can't you use critical thinking on national issues and policies that make or mare lives and economic development!
Why support the implementation of something that already has shortcomings...that's DOA to people like me that will rather create a custom unique approach and development policy.
It is absurd that whilst other oil producing countries are doing better with the same oil resources the past and present leadership administrations in Nigeria makes it look like a curse because of their nepotism, incompetence and greedy nature.

WE NEED YOUNG VISIONARY LEADERS IN NIGERIA COME 2023.

@SENIORWRITER

Which young visionary leaders are you talking about? People like you who reason in a one way traffic-like manner?

Was it the PIA signed by Buhari that compelled the likes of Ibori, Odili, Alamaeseigha etc, to loot the resources of the region? Couldn't such huge resources have been deployed into enhancing development and wellbeing of people in the region?

Which policies do not have shortcomings anywhere in the world? Name one!

As far as I know, the PIA is a welcome development, and Nigeria can always move from there to improving efficiency in the Oil & Gas industry.

For me, it is not about giving more money to communities and states, it is about expanding advocacies around fiscal responsibility and getting leaders to account for their stewardship, especially by their own people.

All that young people in the South south do is, hail their thieving leaders; calling them Chiefs instead of Thiefs, that they truly are; while condemning the FG at the slightest opportunity. That's absolute nonsense!

I don't know why the noise all over the place. Why did Obasanjo and GEJ ( who is from SS) not push for the passage of the PIB during their tenure? If they think the bill is not fair, they should move for amendment.
Little did they know that a Nepotistic President will take over Nigeria and cause such a disunity that everyone is looking out only for his own interest rather than the Nation's!

Pipelines are everywhere and not just the north. These communities also suffer from oil spillage as a result of pipeline vandalization and explosion. So, why are you making it about just the north?

Thanks for demystifying the PIB law here. I quite understand it now. If implemented as understood, the Niger delta region would benefit immensely, considering the number of oil companies in their communities. God help us.

You can slice and dice it any which way you want, the FACT still remains that two northern states would be receiving 30% while the host communities would receive 3%.

Often baffles me to see how bias enables reason to take flight. You have intelligently analysed it. Let those who want to continue in their ignorant ways go ahead, they are so entitled. The Act is a watershed in our history and should be commended. We are talking of an act that replaced the existing 1969 Act. That it was even passed and signed into law after all the past failures should be testament to the focus and will of current govt.

talking about northern frontier , i believe it is not only northerners that has frontiers … there are frontiers in the southern region ....so, instead of being specific about the regional frontier the oil and gas profits will be used for, the bill could have capture all the frontiers.
