SMH.....
Same electricity supply that isn't 24hrs everyday service....SMH.

We don't have normal power supply because we see power as a right and not as the product it actually is.

As a result we underpay our power sector and in return our power sector does not have the money to fix or upgrade things
Stop showing your toxic ignorance....how did you arrive @the underpayment of power supply notion...say what you know .

Have you compared this economy with what we have in countries where they pay a lot more for electricity? Before you say Nigerians underpay the power sector, have you looked at the minimum wage? Our economy is so bad that any increase in cost of basic services will not only further reduce our purchasing power, it will kill it!

Discos have no choice.

All the discos have been running at a loss because they aren't allowed to charge cost reflective tariffs.

We may all complain, but the truth is if we want power 24 seven we have to pay the market price for power.

Or we could prevail on Buhari to reverse the privatisation of power in return for paying the discos and GENCOS billions in compensation for in essence breaking their contract

Buhari is a bad leader but he is not responsible for the privatisation of power or for the laws allowing increases in tarrifs.

Those were set by the previous administration.

Bubu did try to explore the idea of reversing privatisation, but was warned by the agf that it meant the payment of billions in compensation to power companies.
What happens to regulating this discos? Does it means they can just slam tariff increment on Nigerians face without the government interference?
Why is there a government?

You are right dear, till they change the policy of all state generated power must go to the national grid for redistribution, there will be no headway and it scares off investors.
Modrov:

And even then we won't have stable power unless we pay the power companies a rate of that enables them to make an adequate profit to make investment in improving things

All the increases we have had so far have not been enough to enable the power companies make a profit since the increases are sanctioned by government, not the companies themselves

It has been increased here in Abeokuta for 2 months now. We use to pay 4200 per month and suddenly rise to 9200.

What did I just read? For real? . We are paying for this power, aren't we? It is not for free. We are paying . We even pay much more .

What kind of excuse are you making for them? What is the total power output we currently generate? Is it an ideal one to serve Nigeria? If we generate enough power to go round , I might have said you are right. But, I am sorry, you are wrong

They should but even then ultimately the problem is one of people not paying a cost reflective tarrif

Even if we let states do as you said, the fact that they won't be allowed to charge coat reflective tariffs means that they won't be able to run their power systems profitably.

Which can lead to breakdowns and then back to square one

Even if each customer starts paying N100,000 monthly, there can't be regular power supply in Nigeria.Do you know how much income they make monthly on estimated billing alone?Who accounts for its usage? Even if u are disconnected,u will still be getting bills by estimation and Nigerians have been paying for services not rendered which is the highest form of scam.
Prepaid metering is what we need so dt any month I don't need light,I will stay without paying anyone a kobo.

We are.paying for power

Not at the price the discos need it to be to make a profit.

That's why.

Meanwhile in the GSM sector we have bettwr telephony than we did in the 1980s because we paid rates that enabled the GSM companies to make a profit to build up all the infrastructure that we use to chat and browse.

It costs 73 naira to make one kwh of power.

We pay between N53 to 71 per unit.

30 to 40% of customers don't pay a dime

Discos are running losses in the trillions as a result.

See the problem.?

Why is there a government?

Discos can only raise prices at a level set by goverment , which is below the cost of production. Always has been since 2013.

If government had deregulated them, they would be charging as high as 100 naira per kwh by now.

Okay.

Keep enjoying your poor.power since you think that power is meant to be enjoyed for free.

I hope you would like it if in your business people deliberately underpaid you or paid you at rates that make you lose money. Yes you should. We are all poor after all

Wasn't the major aim is to privatize the power sector like telecommunication sector without government intervention? Different power vendors for the consumers to choose from?and I don't even understand why we still have unused/undistributed power going to waste if they are looking to make profit why they don't they distribute it.
