If there is one political mistake that the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, HE, Senator (Dr) Godswil Akpabio has made that has taken the people of Akwa Ibom North Senatorial District backward, it is the mistake of decamping to the All Progressive Congress (APC) without adequate consultation and the awareness that would have carried his teaming supporters along. That singular mistake not only cost the former governor his seat at the Red Chamber, it also turned back the hand of the clock, eroded every progress recorded over the years, and brought back to the people the lack of development experience of the past from former deputy Governor, and the Senator representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district, HE, Engr. (Dr) Chris Ekpeyong, who has been the leading political figure in the region.

Senator Ekpeyong, also known as (Ukarakpa) has a reputation for cheating his people and denying them development. The people of Obot Akara LGA, his ward, Nto-Edino Ward4, and the entire senatorial district has suffered a lack of development for over four decades that this man has held sway as the leading political figure which the people had thought was over and gone for good. But the failure of Akpabio to retain his representation, which the people loved and accepted, gave way to this man to return with the same old story of cheating, denial, and lack of development.

There are fresh tales among people of forceful confiscating and criminal conversion of people’s land in the name of citing one developmental project or the other, substandard and shady execution of road constructions, and other projects, and lots more. Fresh in our minds that we can readily pinpoint are the Mbot Ekpa Enang road construction, the promised building of Aditagha market, the confiscating of people’s land with the deceitful promise to established rice farm/mill, which has been converted to personal ownership, Old firing road, etc.

Just yesterday at Abiak-okpo Nkap, disaster was averted, as village heads from NtoEdino ward4 almost came in collusion against each other as a result of another promised to build the same Aditagha market, which once upon a time, the Senator, when he was the deputy Governor had made women from the surrounding communities to parked and carried sands for months, with the hope that the promised to build the market was real, only for some relations of the Senator to cart away the blocks to built their houses with it. There is also the Apostolic Church at the Senator’s hometown junction of Ikot Ukana that was demolished at the order of the Senator over two years ago when the Senator promised to give the worshipers a befitting edifice, as he made plans to bury his late wife. On till today, worshipers have no place to worship, talk less the promised befitted edifice. The tales of imposing people from the Councilorship level, to the Chairmanship, and other political positions are all the trademarks of his operational mantra that has denied his people effective representation and development.

With all these atrocities against a people in this era of information and social justice, one wonders whether some political office holders in Nigeria have a conscience and emotional intelligence at all!

Atleast chris ekpeyong showed loyalty to the state and region even if his constituency isnt part of the host communities, he voted in support of 5% for the host communities against the 3percent proposed by fg, he voted in support of inec transmission of result... The duties of senators or in general lawmakers whether federal or state or local are to make laws for the benefits of their constituents and the country at large.
Their duties isnt to build townhalls or drill boreholes or build markets.
If they do, its just out of magnanimity and generosity from their part, it isnt in their purview or mission to do these.
Lemme educate more or should i stop?
