Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has demolished the Oginiba abattoir, popularly known as ‘Slaughter Market’, located at Trans-Amadi Industrial layout, in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state, WonderTV Media reports.

The governor who gave reasons for demolishing the abattoir says the market has been a den for kidnapers, robbers, rapists and other criminal agents.

Wike stated that besides the demolished slaughter being a haven for criminal elements, its location at the Trans-Amadi Industrial Area is now considered inappropriate in terms of the State government’s urban renewal policy.

The governor, however, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media Kelvin Ebiri, said anyone giving religious or ethnic colouration to the demolition of the slaughter market located at Trans -Amadi Industrial layout in Obio-Akpor council, does not mean well for Rivers State and the country.

Wike Don lie there.... A den of kidnappers? Heavy lie. Criminals Gangs hang around the market as its common in markets around the country. Phone thieves, bag snatchers, small time criminals but that's that. He should destroy the whole of diobu a d town in that case. Na there real criminals dey.

Wether you accept it or not, there's greed to this, past governors ve all eyed the market and even made attempts to seize it because of its strategic position. I feel its for selfish reasons mostly. Time will tell and yes there is ethnic colouration to it too.

But let's be reasonable here... For a market that over 35yrs old, he should at least provide an alternative for the multitude of Nigerians employed there. Give them another land to build on or build them a new market in another land. All we do here is destroy. Our leaders create no employment but are always in a haste to destroy the livelihood of citizens when it doesn't serve their selfish interest.

We are just wicked to ourselves.
