A friend got a call from his brother to come and work in Maritime Academy Oron. But he is sceptical about it.

Though, here in Ilorin his salary hardly lasts 3 days before he is broke again. He already built his house and married.

In Oron, he will be appointed as irregular staff, as they call it, though, he will later be converted to regular staff after some time.

There is no much difference between irregular and regular staff salaries.

The question now is should he go, is 85 thousand naira salary worth it in Oron? For those who know about maritime academy, pls, your input is needed.

E.g. the actual salary of level 8, security, social life, cost of living and quality of life, hostility from the indigens etc. I forgot to say there might be accommodation.

Asides accommodation and sex Things are generally expensive in akwaibom(eket as a case study). And the funny thing is that you don't have more options to pick from. The intrinsic value of 85k in akwaibom is tentamout to 50k in the south weat

Your 40k in ilorin is far far better and more valuable than 85k in Anywhere in Akwa Ibom.. I stay in Eket. A few mins drive to Oron. I am speaking from a position of authority. Nothing is in this state. Everything is expensive. They don't even have good power supply in Oron. Eket is fair in term of light. But I will advise the person to stay back o. I swear to God I can't wait to get out of this place.

Cost of living in iron is relatively ok.im more worried about the contract work at MAN. Im aware the Rector dey fire people any how any how even regular staff. I have a friend who works as a lecturer, the guy dey fear tire. Them dey sign time book and all that. Let him do more facts finding about the contract job first

Let me give you my suggestion not advice as an ex student of the Academy. Note that the town is not cheap due to the manner sea farers who school there spend money.

If he will be given accommodation inside the school then he can take the offer. Houses outside the school is minimum of 20k monthly.

The prices of goods and services is even considered higher than uyo. The market he'll find things quite expensive compared to what he gets in ilorin.

The Oron town electricity is abysmal, so terrible he'll have to depend charging his phone in the school which runs regular generator during work hour.

He can take the job if they'll give him accommodation inside the school, else that money will vanish within two weeks on managing levels...

Note that the Academy is the most you can get in Oron since there are no sensible companies.

Be quiet Mr Man and stop misinforming the lad! Things are bound to be expensive in Eket, Ibono and the surrounding places because of Mobil Oil and other Oil companies operating within the area. Oron is far from Eket and things are way cheaper than Eket where you're staying. There's almost 24 hrs light in Maritime where the guy is going and there's staff quarters there too. The prices of goods and services in Oron are the cheapest in the State and entire food stuffs chain are sourced locally.

Like seriously? How can you compare Eket and Oron?! That's my place and you're not from there so don't ever you say you're speaking from the position of authority. SMH!

He should accept oron job, once he settles, he can be shipping crayfish, snails, dry fish, periwinkle etc to his wife who will resell them at illorin...more income on top of the doubled salary
