This is the kind of security threat which deserves immediate attention from the Federal Government. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear one word about the issue from the president's office.

BLOOD flowed freely Tuesday in Badagry, Lagos after a group of heavily armed soldiers from the 242 Recce Battalion, Iberepo Badagry took over strategic locations in the ancient town maiming and killing any police man on sight in an apparent reprisal of the killing Monday, of one of their colleagues.

The Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Saliu Samson, his Divisional Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DPS) Samuel who were out in the ensuing fracas to appeal for calm were shot dead.

Two police patrol vehicles belonging to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were set ablaze while their occupants were chased and shot dead. As at 2.30 pm yesterday, corpses of police officers littered the Iberepo roundabout while the rampaging soldiers were spotted with every imaginable dangerous weapons scouting for police men.

Sources said some police men and their families who lived in the Iberepo barracks were chased out and seriously wounded.

According to sources, a soldier in mufti who was escorting goods from the Nigeria\Seme border was accosted by a police officer attached to RRS and Monday and demanded to search the vehicle.

It was learnt that the late unidentified soldier had challenged the policeman and threatened to disarmed him if he does not allow the vehicle free way; prompting the trigger happy policeman to fire at him at close range.

The soldier reportedly slumped and died on the spot. Vanguard was told that the news of the killing of the soldier soon filtered into the Iberepo barracks and some soldiers mobilized as early as 9,00am yesterday and started attacking any policeman on sight contrary to a non violence order given to them by the commander of the barracks, Colonel Nabasa.

Contacted, the Force public relation officer, DCP Olusola Amore said he was yet to get details of the clash saying, “Let me talk to the CP Lagos then I will be in a better position to react to the matter. But his counterpart in the army, Lieutenant Colonel Kayode Ogunsanya of the 81 Division said the situation had been brought under control stressing that it will be throughly investigated. “The situation is under control and I can assure you that the cause of the clash will be thoroughly investigated,” he assured.

The most unfortunate thing about all this is that the killer cop might go unharmed after everything.

As for the soldiers, they are no humans and that institution of theirs is like a cult. Even their superiors will end up siding their men.

Nigeria is one of those weird and poorly structured countries where Military men carry on in public places like they actually have some authority over Civil law enforcers like the Police.

Is it not uncommon to see the Military racing across town blaring sirens and brandishing weapons just because a common colonel wants to attend a wedding. The Military left power 12 years ago but it seems their tyranny and influence has become a permanent scar on our psyche -and they carry it on their shoulders as well.

I'll wait to hear what GEJ and his IG will do or say to the Army about these terrorists and murderers.

The Nigerian Police is not too different anyway undecided

MADNESS!

D army comander should b sacked for incompetency in control over his subordinates. While d rougue soldiers should b arrested and charged wt willful murder and made to face d consequence wtout jail term option. D foolish trigger happy policeman should b fished out and charged for manslaughter/murder.

Ds lawlessness should b stopped by ruthless punishment. No soldier has any justification to malhandle a cop, no to mention hunting dem down like games. Just same way no cop has right to shoot at any unarmed civilian, no matter level of provocation.

The madness between security officers has left in 11 of them dead. Its difficult to even ascribe any degree of normalcy to any of them, they must all be checked for involvement with drugs.
There is hardly any reason on Earth why such animals should be armed in public, also, retraining and re-orientation are urgently needed for the band of thugs we entrust our security to.
The ugly situation is due to the many years of military rule that established the military as superior to "bloody civilians" (in their warped minds).
As for the police, they should all be sacked and a new force built from scratch.

If the soldiers actually disobeyed a direct order from their superior, then it is clearly a rebellion and under court martial may receive the death penalty. Nigerian Soldiers still have not come out of the military rule mode when they were the kings. Do they still think that the mad dogs excuse is still tenable under a democracy? They must be punished till they begin to accept the rule of law and not of bullets no matter whose ox is gored else the coup mentality of seeing themselves as saviours of the republic will still be there and push them to play martial music once again on frcn. This must be nipped in the bud.

Each time something like this happens,  I sit back and chuckle to myself.

It is quite sad, but it is not unexpected.

There is enough blame to go around in this case. The actions of the soldiers was excessive though.

The truth of the matter though is that the Police carry most of the blame for this. It is with the same impunity with which the kill and maim
innocent citizens that they attack and harass people they don't know. This is not the first time and will certainly not be the last.

The NPF are a bunch of trigger happy fools. In this case, they just bit off more than they could chew. The hands of the soldiers were forced in this issue. You do not expect to shoot one of their own in broad daylight and not expect a reaction.

The NPF deserved some of what they got in return. You cannot continually maim and kill innocent citizens for no reason without expecting to eventually step on the wrong toes. The Bible summarizes what happened here quite well in Galatians 6:7 and Hosea 8:7

Galatians 6:7 - BE NOT DECEIVED. GOD IS NOT MOCKED. WHATEVER A MAN SOWS THAT ALSO SHALL HE REAP.

Hosea 8:7 - They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind.

These policemen sowed the wind, and now they have reaped the WHIRLWIND.

I remember things like this happening in Warri in the 80's. It used to be Mobile Policemen Vs Army, both used to have a good share of casualties, but this is a shame. Truly there is no security or safety in the country. Let not forget these are not much different from the massive violence during elections and the wicked killings.

Oga Presido need to tackle security as a matter of urgency

Yes, Buhari is to blame. He and the other uniformed armed robbers stole our sovreignty and held the entire population hostage at gunpoint; they traumatised the country to the extent that the average person is slightly mad. They imbued mentally suspect, smelly, dirty, illiterate, uniformed goons like themselves with the belief that, gun in hand, they were above God and law. It is that psychotic attitude that has expressed itself in the needless deaths of 11 Nigerians and resulted in countless bereaved.

Too many trigger-happy policemen in Nigeria who feel they're above the law. It'll be good for them to learn their lessons. Unfortunately in this situation, the officer that commited the crime might go unscathed and his colleagues would pay with their blood. Never liked theNigerian police. Nothing good to like about them.

Ur hatred for Buhari removes reasoning from ur statements.

see this one too

A Police officer in Ekiti State Police Command, has been arrested by the command for allegedly raping and impregnating a 12-year old girl. shocked

The suspect whose name was given as Lasisi Nurudeen Olalekan, was said to have lured the Junior Secondary School, JSS 1, student (names withheld) to a nearby bush around Textile area, Ado Ekiti sometimes last year.

The randy police officer, a corporal has been arrested on the order of the police commissioner, Mr Olayinka Balogun, following a complaint from Mrs Juliana Olajiga, a guardian to the innocent girl.

According to a petition written by Mrs Rita Ilevbare, on behalf of a non-governmental organisation which was forwarded to the State police command, the NGO had raised an alarm over the illicit action of the policeman and called on the police authority to arrest the suspect.

In the petition dated May 19, 2011, the suspect was said to have assaulted Mrs Olajiga when she confronted him over his disgaceful act.

However, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Balogun has confirmed the reciept of the petition, disclosing that the accused person has been arrested and that a senior officer has been assigned to commence investigations into the matter.

In the petition entitled: “Sexual abuse of Miss Bimbo and assault of Mrs Juliana Olajiga by Police Officer, Lasisi Nurudeen Olalekan”, demand for arrest, investigation and prosecution”, the policeman was alleged to have deceived the victim twice and forcefully had a carnal knowledge of her, which led to her impregnation.

Mrs Olajiga, according to the petition was said to have tried for over three months to locate Olalekan to respond to the complaint from Bimbo, but to no avail .

The NGO further alleged that the victim had inflicted bodily injuries on the complainant (Mrs Olajiga) at her residence Similoluwa on May 12, 2011 when the Policeman was eventually found.

While calling for the prosecution of the suspected police officer, the organisation said, “Sir, it would interest you to note that this child, Bimbo, is a about six months pregnant, a minor, an orphan who is 12 years old

“The education and the future of such a great child has been dimmed by a man, a security agent for that matter, who for any reason, will not allow the future of his children to be tampered with. We demand that justice be done in this matter by arresting and prosecuting Olalekan if indeed is culpable”, it concluded.
