This fine bill will be killed by our brothers from the 'born to rule' philosophical zone.

Correct but note LAgos made the move before Rivers (Wike). Lagos state government sued the federal government and the court told Lagos can’t sue the government but the agency in charge of VAT, sonWike had to go after the agency (FIRS).
but why is malami the one proposing to take the states to Supreme Court instead of FIRS

That man first craze before or his quota system brain doesn't know the law

Tell your rep to fight for more regional power. Constitutional ammendment is the way forward. Put people who can fight for resource control regionally in Abuja. By 5 years from today, a bold senator or governor (another Wike) will propose a bill to cut off supply of crude oil to Kuduna refinery . Shikena.

As Lagos joined Rivers, all SW supported the bill. SE east. Cos they saw the handwriting of Jagaban in support clearly. This is what SE should do. If ibos can cool off a bit, they will get supports from other regions. Let it be (SW+SE+SS) South Vs North.

Shikena..

All this is plot to divert the people's attention and kill the implementation of rivers court judgement till Buhari leaves.

I have the backup of this claim.

VAT is not included in the sharing formula, just mineral resources. No state should share their vat with others.

What then made Wike take FIRS to court if VAT was in the exclusive list before? If mineral resources were shared before and VAT was not.

So between Lagos and Rivers who make the bold step in this issues? To me I give it to a state that drag FIRS to court and won at least we should give Nyesome Wike credit for having the balls to push this through

EX-PRESIDENT OLUSEGUN OBASANJO AND EX-PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO CARRY THROUGH WITH THESE BILLS BUT THEY WERE PLAYING THE OSTRICH.

Now they want a NORTHERNER that does not stand to benefit from the bill to agree to it.

LET THEM CARRY THE BILL TO GOVERNOR EL RUFAI OF KADUNA STATE OR HAKEEM BABA AHMED of NORTHERN NIGERIA TO SIGN FOR THEM.

Do things at the right time when you had the opportunity.

SOUTHERN LEADERS IN PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT FAILED THE SOUTH.

They were after the selfish interest of their friends and family members.

State collecting VAT does not need a bill. It is in the constitution. States are entitled to vat generated in their state

In a nutshell the FG is sharing 50-50 with the states? Why what are the FG producing.

States must collect 90%.

I meant the new bill coming up. The sharing formula is for the minerals, and not the vat.

Many still don't understand the write up or the VAT debacle yet they want to write something. Nigerians are very sentimental people that is why we can hardly get things right.

However the proposal by the HoR is a welcome development as it will create soft landing for the over 30 states that are insolvent.

The bitter reality is that if States are to take control of their respective state VAT over 30 states of the federation can't meet up going by their current standing.
Apart from Lagos, Rivers, Oyo, Ogun and one or two States in the SS including FCT, the remaining States are insolvent. Yet their indigenes won't allow us on nairaland about state control whereas their Governors are scared to stand on their own.

Oga, we can't continue to baby sit states. The idea behind all these is simple. Enough of free money. Every state should go and hustle. There is enough resources in each state to turn it into money. They should work. And more importantly, learn to be productive.

Where was the bill 2 years ago? Or 1 year ago at least. So if Wike didn't go to court and win, nobody for remember say they should create bill to allow states collect VAT.
Man, you are going to have to appreciate the fact that this happening. I suspect there is someone behind all these new moves to checkmate the madness of those guys in the North... When it came yesterday or today, as long as it came, we should support it...

On the Wike ish, there is always going to be a first mover, someone has to break the ice man... interesting days ahead.

It makes sense on paper and sounds like the much talked about restructuring but expect the northerners to frustrate it. I know they just doing all these so the bill can be officially silenced and they can get back fully to one Nigeria business.
If any southerner thinks those who want to resist VAT collection at state level will suddenly support another more impactful form of resources control, then welcome to Nigeria.

Correction Lagos State Government took FIRS to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court ruled that it only has original jurisdiction on constitutional matters. That is the federal government and federating units (states).

This National assembly is very useless, but the Senate headed by a Quota system Almajiri is more useless. There is still hope for the House of reps. I have listened to Gbajamila speak. That guy is sound, unlike the Bandit heading the Senate!

Let's see how this is going to play out. I know this bill is not going to pass, not with the crop of leaders we have. But, kudos for bringing this to limelight. I hope it will spark the discussion on other relevant issues necessary for our progress.
