it will for some time. This is because we are yet to reach full sufficiency in food production. A ban on import on certain agro products caused the price rise. Till we are able to produce enough food that we consume, it will keep rising for a while. For now, only those in the rural areas are farming with the old known methods. We need a full fledged mechanized farming system to boost food production. That can cater for every single person in the country.

Get into agriculture and make money. Money der agriculture. I am a living testimony.

Money de agriculture, but with hard, manual labour that will get you looking so old at a very young age. I am a living testimony

Few days ago, we had claims of cargo planes going back empty without cargo because of high cost of export occasioned by illegal charges by illegal agencies which caused the export capacity of the nation to plummet, now another fellow is here with a story on the sudden rise of agric export.

Who is been truthful?

BMCs are wanking allover the post.

I tell u my brother I don't know you notice this blunder lies of trying to cover reality shiits up

Instead of addressing Nigeria economic failures
They are sugar coating it with lies

And the south tops the highest exporter of farm produce through cocoa and cahsew but. What does the north bring to the table? Only population. Bunch of leeches

Op, the stats is encouraging but you know the price of agricultural produce is volatile, and therefore it is income inelastic. So, for real growth it's not sustainable. We need to move as a country from primary source of wealth.

There is no reason why Nigeria should not be the highest cocoa exporter in Africa benching Ghana and ivory coast.

It takes policy.

If the US can become the highest exporter of oil from being the highest importer, then what is stopping Nigeria?

The food price will still continue to be rise for some time as most of the abundant agricultural products we used to import have been banned. And currently, we have few people making the products hence high price. By the time more people join the business, there would be competition with the price
I want to disagree with you. As of 2020, 1 in 3 working Nigerians was employed in agriculture yet we exported less than a billion dollars of agricultural products and food prices kept rising.
We obviously don't need more farmers. No country developed by increasing its number of famers.
Holland with about half a million farmers exported over 100 billion agricultural products.
There is actually a direct relationship with the number of farmers in a country and rising poverty.
The poorest countries have the most farmers.

Why ban before adequate supply has been achieved?

Is that not putting the cart before the horse and encouraging price gouging?

Yes it will continue to go high as long as everyone leaves agriculture and the farm, and runs to Lagos without any source of livelihood or without generating income with their dependants. (some with 5, 6,7 and more children)

Who do you think will farm for you to sit and eat?

In the last 10 years Nigeria population has doubled that of Germany, yet it is increasing and we are complaining of prices of food with the few farming.
Yeah, as if Fulani terrorists haven't driven many people away from farms? Keep blaming people for not farming.

Where is yam and cow from the north ? Mtcheew!

The earlier our leaders down south come together and re-introduce cocoa farming/plantation with improved seedlings, the better for us and we'd take back our position as the largest exporter of cocoa in Africa. The north have forgotten that cocoa had built up to the wealth which we're enjoying today which is why we say we want to be collecting our own vat to develop our region and they're fuming. Cocoa had built up our current status for over the past century which had caused our region to be this progressive.

Pa awolowo used cocoa proceeds to do a lot of wonders. The free education our forefathers enjoyed helped liberate and develop our region at a time when they were busy promoting only Islamic education in the north to the detriment of the generations unborn( today'sgeneration). The difference is what we are seeing now. Saudi counterbalanced the system by promoting both the Islamic and western education but the north didn't. South west and south south did the same, wondering if the north practiced a different version of Islamic religion. I just pity the generation suffering the ineptitude and ignorance of their past leaders today.

Your analysis is not balanced. Go to the market in the southwest, check the foodstuffs people are buying to eat in their houses, then tell me if it is cocoa or not.

The north produces the food we eat in Nigeria. If they decided to export all for foreign cash like cocoa, starvation will hit entire South.

The ineptitude of our Nigerian leaders is what result to our underdevelopment and not religion. Southwest has reasonable Muslim population, does that make them docile? How far does other African countries not dominated by Muslims fares? Religion does not hampers development please.

Great job!! Cocoa is coming back as a top forex earner and probably explains the high IGR in the SW states like Oyo and Osun. Kudos to all the Patriots, especially to the farmers ,the hardworking patriotic CBN Governor,Mr Emefiele, and his team at CBN for your intervention in the agricultural industry . Please don't relent and don't allow them to frustrate you. You will overcome even the current challenges posed by currency speculators and those supporting the unpatriotic actions of the currency speculators because they hate President Muhammadu Buhari and/or they are benefiting from the unpatriotic currency speculators.

In the same country where some are cursing themselves and lamenting online, some are idling away online, some hoarding dollars to create scarcity and resell at profit and some actively enabling capital flight by using naira to buy cryptocurrency hosted in foreign nations , these patriotic farmers ignored all the negative people, toiled hard and today bringing in high amount of forex into the country. God bless them. This is a proof that you don't need to steal from government or be a drug trafficker or internet fraudster to earn USD. Agriculture is doing it for these farmers big time!

We should start looking at investing in the value chains of these agricultural products so we can export less of the raw produce and more of the finished products from the raw materials e.g export chocolate instead of cocoa beans.

If you are considering going into agriculture, these data can give you a clue on where to pitch your tent. You can produce the raw agriculture produce or manufacturer finished products from the raw materials or provide logistics to support these emerging and thriving forex earning agricultural produce.

Most containers heading to seme border cant go anywhere due to new tariff imposed by Nigeria and other countries where it will pass through.
