The Importance of monitoring blood sugar level.
Blood sugar is the quantity of glucose found in the bloodstream
This sugar can rise and fall at various times throughout the day.
This sugar is gotten from the intake of food and supplies energy to the body.
Food eaten are digested in the stomach and carbohydrates are further broken down to glucose which is absorbed by the stomach and small intestines. The glucose is then released to the blood stream.
Insulin is a peptide hormone which promotes the absorption of glucose from the blood into liver. It helps the body to use glucose for energy. When there is shortage of insulin, glucose stays in the bloodstream and keeps the blood sugar level high.

It is therefore important for people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes to regularly monitor their blood sugar level. It can help in knowing the best way to tackle diabetes and also prevent or delay complications in diabetes such as stroke, heart attack, kidney disease, vision loss and amputation.
