Long lines of people at gas stations anxiously waiting to fill up their cars has become an unnerving reality in the United Kingdom in recent days, giving the government a black eye and sparking fears of another winter of discontent. As many as two-thirds of the Petrol Retailers Association’s nearly 5,500 independent retail outlets ran out of fuel as of Monday, with the rest following soon.

But it’s not actually a fuel shortage—it’s a labor shortage. For the last few months, a shortage of over 100,000 qualified truck drivers, also known as heavy goods vehicle drivers, has disrupted many industries such as food and fuel, causing ripple effects in grocery stores, restaurants, and now gas stations.

The UK government was set to introduce a temporary easing of visa restrictions for foreign truck drivers as consumer fuel supplies run low, local media reported on Saturday.

British newspapers said that Downing Street would go back on a previous pledge and offer up to 5,000 short-term visas for drivers of heavy goods vehicles (HGV). The decision was set to come into effect to avoid disruptions during the busy period in the run-up to Christmas.
If you are a truck driver in Nigeria get your passport ready.

Only 1 out of 10 truck driver in Nigeria will pass a driving test in EU/UK without additional training.

Nigerian drivers are one of the worst. More especially truck drivers that learn driving from their Oga when they were truck boys.

Most Nigerian drivers don't even understand traffic code and sign. They don't even know the basic safety checks do do before entering or exiting a car.

Be there and be giving them false hope.

Back to the news. Other EU HGV truck drivers are not willing to bail the UK out on this one. Let's see if UK will sweeten the deal for them.

I pity the UK they are following USA up-and-down, they better allow those Eastern Europeans to come and work otherwise their economic will surfocate.
Why do you think Germany the richest country in Europe still allow those smaller European countries to work in Germany.
