That account of soun of ogbomoso is very false. The full title is Sòún Ajagungbadé. It was bestowed on him for defeating the elemoso who was disturbing farmers on the outskirts of Oyo up to Ilorin. The first Soun was a warrior/commander in the Alaafin army who committed the equivalent of a war crime and was meant to be banished. Fortunately, he was banished to present day Ogbomoso were he fought and defeated elemoso. It was in appreciation of that gallantry that he was asked to become baale or governor of the area previously held by elemoso which he was banished to. Soun was thus a Baale title vested on him by the Alaafin. It was later turned to a king during the colonial era Note: Sòún Ajagungbadé Ogbomoso means he who fights to take charge of Ogbomoso Ogbomoso also means one who cuts off the head of elemoso 1 Like |

JOemmy: We actually don't. There is nothing that we have in common that is not commonly West African. Furthermore, anything we traded with the Nupe and Bariba is not Hausa. The Nupes and Baribas are not Hausa, and they are not Fula, they are not even close |

Centuries before colonialism and the British-supervised formation of Nigeria, much of what we know today as northern and western Nigeria have had robust relational and cultural encounters, evidence of which still endures in the contemporary linguistic and cultural artifacts of the people. Please, whoever the author of this article is, STOP this FAKE narrative about the Yorubas and the Fulanis having so much in common including cultural and otherwise. The Yoruba people have absolutely nothing in common with the Fulanis. The Fulanis are very lazy, unproductive, very destructive, non builders, detest education and intellectual growth and have a conquerors mindset. They like to take and NEVER give back and always want to reap where they never sowed. They don't believe in giving back, community building and empowerment. All these are attributes that the Yorubas are known for. So, how can this person claim that they have a lot in common with the Yorubas? 3 Likes |
