Lagos – The Lagos Asset Management Ltd., operators of LAGBUS, has introduced electronic ticketing (e-ticketing), the Managing Director, Mr Tunde Disu, said on Thursday.

Disu  in Lagos said that 71 buses in LAGBUS fleet had validators for E-Ticketing Card (ETC) but only 21 would operate e-ticketing at the moment.

He said that the 21 buses would ply three newly introduced routes on Lagos Island which he called Routes 53, 54 and 55.

According to him, Route 53 starts from  Leventis and ends at the Eko Hotels through Marina, Ahmadu Bello Way and Bar-Beach; while Route 54 is Leventis-Eko Hotels via Adeola Odeku Street and Bar Beach.

Disu said that Route 55 would start from Obalende and end at Eko Hotels through Ahmadu Bello Way and Bar Beach.

Disu explained that commuters would purchase e-tickets at various points on the three routes.

The managing director said that the initial cost of the e-ticket would be N500 comprising N200 cost of the ETC and N300 worth of travel.

Disu said that transport fares on the routes remained the same and that a commuter could recharge his card with any amount after the initial payment.

“Any passenger on these routes must board the buses from the front door as the validator is inside the doorway where the card is to be used.

“The card is not personalised, it can be lent to family members and friends (though only one person can use it on any trip) and should be treated as cash. No refund is made at the loss of the card.

“We aim to introduce e-ticketing on more routes in due course,” Disu said.

NAN reports that the e-ticketing will be used on the three routes alongside the pay-as-you- go ticketing.

LAGBUS began operation on Feb. 17, 2007.

It currently has 535 luxury buses in its fleet, including air-conditioned ones.

The buses ply more than 50 routes.  (NAN)

the 53 and 54 buses are repetition of routes in my opinion
54 should have been via 1004 and ends at eko hotel

the card should not be transferable.
5 people can use one card a day. thats loss of revenue.
